  1. I’d pay what the engine core is worth plus $20-25K if the logbooks could be found. Wouldn’t chance it on flying with that engine.
  2. They’re alive and good reason to believe good stuff is in the pipeline
  3. I’m sure he has plenty of people telling him what to do!
  4. Congrats on getting this done. The climb performance improvement is worth it, too. Mooney needs to get some engineering done to offer an Encore conversion for 231s. As popular as this is getting for the 252, I imagine it could be just as common on the 231.
  5. Thanks for the tags and recommendations, everyone! We are exchanging PMs
  6. American Eagle/American is cheap from GGG-DFW-FLL/MIA. I'd do the same thing when I lived in Lakeland. Dropoff at GGG then airline to TPA.
  7. Depends on the state where you'll own the plane, too. Some jurisdictions aren't too friendly.
  8. Yep - get your private then get the Mooney you want. Happy to quote your insurance. Parker Airspeed Insurance Agency 214-295-5055 Parker@airspeedinsurance.com
  9. And the one you've got now according to your profile info is sure different than the previous ones...
  10. only if it was done without your approval.
  11. In more of a gray color so I'm less noticeable!
  12. At least the oil was warm then. I remember my IO-360 would go yellow at idle (~700 RPM) when the oil was warm. If we were talking 1000 RPM significantly in the yellow then I might be more worried.
  13. how hot was the oil when you saw it going down further than you're used to into the yellow?
  14. I'm pretty busy these days (trying to keep service up!). Depending on the day, I can make it out there.
  15. A friend & client was flying up to visit his son at the Air Force Academy in CO and had to divert with a bad alternator to PUB. Can any of our Mooney friends recommend a good place to get his plane serviced? Local knowledge appreciated as we know these things can get expensive when transient... He has an RV-7A.
  16. Most carriers won’t offer to lower commission for a light aircraft risks because some of the automated quoting systems for personal aircraft are just too clunky to change for one risk.
  17. If you’re not insured by Airspeed, give Paul a call for a quote - keep him from going insane from that hotel room (and he has plenty of time on the oil rig, too).
  18. Looking forward to chat or just reach out to Paul. He needs some good work to do while he sits in quarantine for 2 weeks
  19. Most carriers have a baseline for light aircraft policies around 15%. Some powerhouse agencies will negotiate a higher cut toward 17.5% or 20%. This does not affect the rate the Insured pays compared to other agencies. I wish they’d do commissions based on loss ratio. That’d really start weeding out some junk risks that hurt everyone.
  20. Perhaps he called his agent with another quote and his agent then called the holding carrier to see if they’d match to hold onto the business. It’s harder to find carriers doing that these days, but two years ago it was quite common.
  21. They don’t all get the same commission, but the price doesn’t increase for the ones that get a higher commission. Being a lower volume agency, I get a lower commission percentage than a lot of places. Every now and then I take an account from a powerhouse agency and enjoy one year of making a third more than normal.
  22. I meant for the bigger and faster plane
  23. Have you got a quote for what you want? You may be surprised to find it's not as bad as you think...
  24. Loss Ratios the last 5 years: Piston GA - money loser as a percentage, but not a lot lost in terms of dollars Agricultural aircraft - money loser for most carriers. Pro flown turbine aircraft - very profitable for many carriers. Unprofitable for a few. Owner flown turbine aircraft - In general: Money loser Airlines - trading dollars with the insurance companies while the insurance companies hope for no fatal accidents. Typical attritional losses are about the same as the premium they pay. Manufactured Products liability - small manufacturers (subcontractors to the OEMs): Very profitable Manufactured Products liability - OEMs: Some pretty bad losses. On-Airport General Liability - high loss ratios, in general.
