The Supply Chain Issues Have Hit Our Industry!!!!
bmcconnaha replied to Baker Avionics's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I don’t believe so as of yet. Last couple orders we have placed at each company (both in the last week or two) was 6-8 week lead time, which has been the standard for them for some time. -

I don’t think you did either. This sucks all the way around, for everyone. -
Wanted Garmin GTN 750 and 650

I might have a preowned 750 coming in. Non XI version. -
No Back Spring for GEC Plessey actuator in ‘85 M20J

@Sabremech put me on the list if you get a spring made for the Plessy. -
Torque Wrench Socket Too Big for Oil Filter
bmcconnaha replied to TheAv8r's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Tempest says not to use anything on the gasket. I do use the DC4 on champion filters though. -
Only cessna I’d trade my J for would be a turbo 210… don’t really care for a carb engine, like the one in a 182 RG. Be wary or certain years of cessna gear. It’s kind of a night mare. If light backcountry is in the works, I’d just buy a 182 fixed gear. Owned multiple Cessnas, they are fine airplanes, but I’d rather fly my mooney any day. what autopilot are you interested in putting in a cessna that you can’t put in a Mooney? The standard best bang for the buck by a mile is the GFC500, and it’s fully supposed in a mooney, including yaw axis.

Last time I flew was heading to texas to drop my plane off at aerocomfort for an interior redo. 121.5 was just a play by play of the baseball game, and meowing.

Yeah, no kidding. I need a set of those before paint

As long as airplanes have been flying, they have been crashing. Hurts me to see any airplane crash with a fatality, but really hurts to see another mooney. FWIW I have very few concerns with the structural integrity of our airplanes. What I can say, is proper maintenance, good preflights (both weather, and airplane), observing the proper air speeds for the maneuver being performed (at both ends of the spectrum) and practicing stall avoidance go a long way to reducing accidents.

GTN750 and Century 2000 - Do They Play Well Together?
bmcconnaha replied to RoundTwo's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
As a user of both…. The avidyne IFD is much preferred over the 750 IMO. Mine works great on the century 2k FWIW. -
Panel upgrade: angle of attack experience?
bmcconnaha replied to PeytonM's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
nice thing about the aspen is its calibrated with and without flaps... i think its the best solution to not have to add any other hardware. we have a g3x going in my plane now, but it requires another pitot tube. -
G3X Upgrade with EIS or another route.

Looks great. How long were you down for? -
Low time pilot - intimidated by Mooney
bmcconnaha replied to 40_Year_Dream's topic in General Mooney Talk
@40_Year_Dream I have an electronic POH for a 2900lb gross J (what your clubs is) if you want it. Just shoot me a message. As for the cardinal, get your time and move along. They are dogs. Poor climbing, slow dogs. Have enough time in one to know better. Only thing they are is easy to get in and out. If you just need to master the prop, no big deal. Becomes easier when you think of it as a manual transmission. With fine pitch (full forward) being 1st gear. The prop is really pretty easy, and mine moves very few times in flight. Full forward until top of climb. Then cruise rpm. At top of descent 2200. When I'm in the pattern and below governing speed, my last gump check I move the prop full forward. That way you don't get the Rev up that alarms an unsuspecting passenger. That's really all there is to it. Plan your descent to cover approx 5 mi per thousand feet down at 500/min. Arrive at pattern altitude far enough away from the airport you can get it below both flap and gear ext speeds (100kts). Nothing really crazy about it. I suspect the visual of moving MUCH faster approaching the airport when you first rode in the Mooney was eye opening, and that got in your head slightly. Good luck, get a CFI and go for it. Bryan -
Paint before a major avionics install?

Paint before a major avionics install?
bmcconnaha replied to bmcconnaha's topic in General Mooney Talk
Good news is I am not really adding any antennas. I was a waas GPS antenna already, another antenna that I'm thinking the shop will swap for the XM antenna. I might move the transponder antenna towards the tail, otherwise most will stay. Painshop plans to replace the windshield. I'm more concerned with lots of trips in and out of the interior, and access into the back for the AP install. -
I was originally planning to paint my airplane late spring, but ran into some delay on stuff from Garmin. Feb 16th ship date. The paint shop called and said they could get to me in December. Normally I'd pass, and just do the avionics first, but the plane will be down for a while for a significant Avionics install (8 weeks is the estimate). G3x with engine monitor and CIES senders, GFC500, GTN750xi, audio panel, new backup com, removal of old inop stormscope, primary vac, standby vac etc... So, I would most likely put paint off again until next winter to avoid completely not flying all summer. Would you paint the plane before such a major project? or, is the better bet to delay it until next winter?

I wish Dynon could have kept the original schedule for the AP. I decided not to wait any longer, and am installing a g3X/750XI/GFC500. Sort of a major bummer, because I'm a big believer in the IFD nav units. I like them quite a bit more than the GTNs. Too bad both companies(Garmin and Dynon) have limited compatibly. If dynon could have interfaced with my century or NGT9000 I would have gone that way and just had things prewired for the AP.

No back spring in landing gear actuators
bmcconnaha replied to M20S Driver's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Sure would be nice if we could order parts directly from the manufacturer. I hate bugging Dan at lasar from small stuff. He seems pretty busy. Last time I didn't get a call back. I know stuff can slip between the cracks. -
my J has electric pitch trim, and i ordered that for the GFC. not rudder trim though. i think you can add electric pitch trim to yours with the GFC.
-
Thank you. thats great. I had several people tell me it wouldnt, so i was curious what others experience was.
-
Good to know, thank you for the update. I have mine ordered. Can't wait! Does the YD keep the ball centered in a climb, or even a cruise climb?
-
@Little Dipper any update in your thoughts after a year with the yaw damper?

87 J panel upgrade; ideas welcome
bmcconnaha replied to sleeper-319's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
@Baker Avionics is going to do my J. Lots of levels of equipment out there, from your basic G5 install all the way to a 500TXI. I settled on: G3X with engine monitor GTN 750 (only part of the change i am not thrilled about, currently have an IFD550, and like it much more than a 750, but I see value in one interface and system to learn. Especially IFR) GTX345 remote mounted 225 com unit GFC500 with yaw damp option Gdl52 remote to get XM radio and weather. Remote audio panel Excited to get it done. If dynon had been quicker to get the autopilot done, I'd have gone that route. -
I sell tons of tailbeacons, but I also take a few back in on trade because people end up wanting a new transponder anyways. If you'd like im happy to talk cost/benefit and long term goals with you. Definitely want to buy the right option, so you don't have to do it twice. Need to figure out if traffic to a panel mounted unit is important down the road, or you just want to to an ipad, things like that. Let me know if I can help. Bryan @ avionics source
