  1. I was actually looking at the zip chem stuff, this is the one that meets the requirements from the MX manual. https://zipchem.com/Pages/optional-backgrounds/d5261.htm
  2. Thanks for the info. I was hoping to find something spruce carries. I have a big order going in, but they are either out of stock or don’t carry it. So, I guess I’m going the sky geek route
  3. After much searching, including some here on MS, I still can’t figure out a good lubricant that meets MIL-L-7870 (low temperature general oil) Aeroshell fluid 3 seemed to be the preferred, but not finding it easily. Same with with rapco 363. Is there an other fluids that people are using? This appears to be used for things like bellcranks and trim assist bungee and attach points. Also, what are your other preferred lubricants, grease etc? Thanks.
  4. ill call them again. the echelon STC has to be acomplished by a lyc service center, which maybe they are. they didnt seem too excited about taking my D core on an IO390. I was kind of leaning their direction on on a two mag (a3b6) overhaul, just not sure who i would have install it. was looking for someone who had done it before.
  5. looking at overhauling my IO-360-a3b6D or upgrading. wanted opinions on both best course of action, and shops. i have proposed a couple ways id like to proceed. 1) upgrade to the IO390. this is top choice. Mainly because the prop purchase isn't that big of a deal. i would overhaul my prop anyways at major OH, so the price delta isn't THAT big. The main benefits of this route is roller engine, and dual mags. i hear lots of no performance gain this way, but both the cirrus guys (new sr20s have the IO390 instead of the conti IO360), and the Glastar guys say there are considerable gains. my main concerns on this route. Very limited data on this in the field from what i can find. I would love to see someones engine data from something like a JPI so i could see a few flights such as what the CHTs and fuel flow looks like. also would like to see some climb performance info. other concerns are engine longevity, and cylinder costs. would need pointers on a shop to complete this upgrade. G&N basically said they haven't done one in years, but would email me info. That was 10 days ago, and haven't heard from them again. not exactly confidence inspiring. 2) overhaul exchange of my d model engine to one with split mags. i like this option because i like the redundancy AND i want electronic ignition. I would like to go to shop that has done the swap before a few times. if you have gone this route via a shop you liked or didnt like i would like to hear opinions. 3) just a simple overhaul of my D model. looking for opinions on shops. so far a have a quote from lycon (top choice, but will take some time. can do an OH exchange), premier engines in troutdale (wont do an exchange, just wants to OH mine, will take up 16 weeks. too long), and firewall forward. after talking to FF, i really liked the guy, but a search on here revealed some horror stories. place im buying the place from, all American, recommended Jewell. i hadn't heard of them. experiences would be helpful here. I am pretty particular on my engine, so a well balanced engine with minimal vibration defiantly appeals to me, lycon seems to be the go to for that type of build (port, polish and balance) Let me know your thoughts. TIA!
  6. that might. any info?
  7. i was actually just going to text you and catch up. I think the J will work just fine for now. trying to find "the one" at the moment
  8. hi all... looking a J or K model. newer the better. budget of up to 125k, but 80-100k is really ideal. trying to keep it under 3k total time. been through Trade a plane, controller, barnstormers etc. let me know if you know of anything. looking for something extremely clean and nice example, one that has been well maintained. thanks in advance
  9. coeur d alene, ID... id go anywhere in the pacific northwest! thank you.
  10. Pretty darn accurate on all counts. i plan to get a PPI for sure. i do assist my mechanic with annuals.... there is a reason im after a one piece belly, lol. i have been in a k (252) and an eagle. never a J. its hard to find people wanting to fly with relative strangers during these strange times unfortunately
  11. i dont meant the right model mooney. i have that narrowed down. I have owned a Cherokee 180, a cessna 182 with a 285hp texas skyway O520 and a 07 cirrus sr22 TN. AS for the Hawk XP, its a decent bird. i dont own it, just in a 5 person club that owns it. Ill exit the club once i purchase a mooney. when i say "right mooney" i mean right as in overall condition, avionics, low total time etc. i am a J or a K buyer most likey. the insurance doesnt love me on an ovation (my top choice if money, insurance etc werent a thing, LOL). I am 525TT, minimal retract time and no instrument rating yet ( hope to finish that soon) I believe the J to be the right plane for overall reliability, MX, hourly cost to operate etc. i did like my time with turbo charged airplanes tho, and if a 231/252 that was everything i wanted showed up, id go for it as well.
  12. my trips frequently include an airport that is 5500 MSL, so the power of the turbo would be great getting out. but, lets be honest. i flew our clubs 172XP there last week and it was just fine. sooo, do i NEED the turbo, no. but it would be nice. honestly 80-90 percent of my flying is 10500 or lower. when i had the cirrus ( it was turbo normalized) i usually flew a little higher just because i could, and the speeds were faster up higher.
  13. no doubt... just an internal battle in my head... would i rather have a little older 252, or a newer J for the same money
  14. i do too, i must have had fifty of them on my SR22. this would be more of a personalized letter. but i get that, i ve never responded to one. im on Jimmys email list... he has one coming in i am interested in. waiting on some photos.
  15. how would i go about getting some info on that bird?
  16. hi all. I am looking for an M20j or K. ive been through TAP, controller, barnstormers etc... I have owned three planes so far. two ( a Cherokee 180 and a 182) kind of just fell into my lap. weren't really advertised anywhere. The third, a cirrus sr22TN i purchased from a broker. has anyone ever sent letters to the local and kind of local owners of aircraft they were interested in? not sure how people would respond to getting a letter asking if their aircraft would be for sale for the right price?
