  1. That is how mine look, too. So I never use my recognition lights.
  2. A bit out of the way, but it you stop in Las Cruces, a great restaurant is La Posta de Mesilla. https://www.laposta-de-mesilla.com/
  3. Maybe a fuel stop in Las Cruces. Then PSP, through the Banning Pass, PDZ, a couple more miles Southwest, then hang a left.
  4. Does running the air conditioning reduce power? Was thinking about this as I took off from Sedona this weekend with density altitude around 8,000 ft.
  5. I am "only" 52, fly with the AP engaged from 400 agl until on final and any flight longer than 3.5 hrs wipes me out. Once flew solo nonstop from Austin to SoCal in intermittent IMC. Man that was dumb.
  6. Did they cancel Sun n Fun?
  7. At this point, the non-cancellation of this event is starting to seem weird. What's the thesis: Social distancing is a misguided policy?
  8. Only 22 days till the start of Sun n Fun. Anyone have any intel on whether it is likely to go forward? Seems like al kinds of large gatherings are getting cancelled.
  9. It's got to be a Reposado or Anejo, right? I'm partial to Clase Azul but there are so many good ones.
  10. Just bought my tickets. Flying in to KLAL and pitching a tent. Got the VIP tickets cause what the heck. Looking forward to meeting some of you!
  11. Question about the pattern at KEGE: on left downwind for 25, looks like the hills are RIGHT THERE. Is downwind inside of those hills or over them? Extend downwind for a nice stable straight in?
  12. Flying to KEGE next week. Looks like high terrain on downwind for 25. Is that right. Any tips.

I’ve only been once.  I did use 25 but no issues with terrain within the pattern area, the airport is in a pretty good valley and no real issues with the approach, at least VFR.

  13. Flying to KEGE next week. Looks like left traffic for 25 with pretty high terrain on downwind. Is that about right.

  14. 172kts, 50 lean of peak. Wouldn't want to go any faster. The views are just too good.
  15. My Ovation came with AC. I almost never use it and would rather have the extra few knots and, more importantly, the extra payload. I have, however, had the privilege of paying to repair it.
  16. Agree that Cirrus has dominated. Don't agree that the market for high performance singles is huge. Cirrus sells about half as many planes as it did in 2006. About 6 per state per year. And no one else sells any. As far as high performance singles go, Cirrus is dominating a vanishing market.
  17. Thinking of going to Sun n Fun for the first time. How does the experience compare to Oshkosh? Not a fan of the website. It is impossible to navigate.
  18. This is about right from my experience as well -- including fuel, oil, insurance, maintenance and property tax.
  19. Yes, but that is not a case that any lawyer would take on a contingency. Nor is it a case that any client should pay a lawyer to bring. Considering the cost of drafting the complaint, serving, proving up the case, getting a judgment and then a writ of execution -- in all likelihood the return on investment would be negative.
  20. How much hand flying are y'all doing? Gotta confess, except for pattern work and the occasional training flight where I make myself hand fly, my autopilot is on from 400 agl after takeoff until I am on short approach or entering the pattern.
  21. Gotta wonder if this whole dance was just an effort by the Company to reduce (or eliminate) its exposure under Texas' WARN act.
  22. Well as long as we're confessing, I had this exact experience landing at Mammoth Lakes (KMMH) last winter. No wind, black ice, didn't touch the brakes or rudder pedals on roll out. Could barely walk on the tarmac. It all worked out, but never again.
  23. Greetings from Mammoth Mountain where gusts are over 60mph. What is usually a 1:45 flight was a 7:30 drive! The Mooney has spoiled me.
  24. There are no winners in the single engine high performance aircraft game. Sales of the SR22 (turbo and NA) are about 50% of what they once were. And they are the success story. There are so many better places for money to go than into GA in general and complex high performance singles in particular.
