  1. Thanks Anthony. Also fails with autopilot engaged, i.e., autotrim fails. Does that eliminate the yoke mounted trim switch as a potential cause or does autotrim also run through that switch.
  2. I am having this issue now. M20R, STEC 55X, intermittent failure of the electric trim. Avionics shop sent a tech to look but of course it was working fine. He seemed reluctant to start troubleshooting a system that was not presently in a state of failure. Recommended having the mechanical components of the trim system cleaned and lubed and them maybe replacing the yoke mounted switch. Thoughts? Should I wait until it is in persistent failure? Can make oneself crazy trying to fix something that is not presently broken. But wouldn't want this to fail in IMC on approach.
  3. If there is no market for the Bonanza, it's hard to believe there is a market for the M20.
  4. Yeah, that's more like it. Well done. And thank you for your service.
  5. How about now?
  6. Just because
  7. Me, too. I don't have WAAS and frankly don't see what's the big deal. The nonprecision minimums have always been low enough for me.
  8. Nice job, Richard. Sorry we never connected in KOSH. Maybe somewhere closer to home one of these days.
  9. I have the lemo plug and just bought a pair of passive David Clark headsets with the two prongs as a backup. Just seemed like a good idea to have a simple, versatile backup.
  10. I'll be one of them! Thinking of starting out next Friday and get there Saturday to watch Top Gun under the stars! Tickets to the show Monday through Wednesday.
  11. I continue to own and fly - notwithstanding those considerations - because I still enjoy it. It is not cost-free, hassle-free, or risk-free. But it is fun and there is nothing like it.
  12. Didn't fly to visit, but did fly coast-to-coast to drop my son off at college. Great experience but that is one where you have to get where you are supposed to when you are supposed to. So a continuously viable plan B is always necessary.
  13. Just bought my Oshkosh tickets and was too late for Aviators Club. If anyone has extra tickets for 7/27 and 7/28, let me know. Would be happy to buy them from you. Thanks.
  14. Had it checked out by Leading Edge Avionics at KSNA. They couldn't replicate the failure and didn't get those alerts. Go figure. So my next few flights will be in VMC and with a fully-charged handheld radio readily accessible. The folks at Leading Edge were really nice.
  15. Also, on the ground I switched the headset to the right seat jacks and tried the push-to-talk button on the right seat yoke (testing COM1 and COM2). Couldn't transmit. The push-to-talk buttons on both yokes felt normal and did not feel stuck.
  16. Anthony, you'll be happy to know that my handheld radio was fully charged and safely stowed in my flight bag at home where I could not lose it. Took these photos on the ground. Don't know what COM2 was doing at the time of my COM1 failure because I was too busy to try COM2 when this happened. I had just been cleared for the approach and was in solid IMC. I was able to acknowledge ATC instructions by pressing ident and, with that line of communication established, I just focused on my approach and landing.
  17. Couldn't transmit today (happened in IMC on approach no less). Got the error message set forth in the title to this thread. Same for COM2. I did not have a stuck mike, was not transmitting. Could hear ATC just fine. Any ideas?
  18. Crossed the Sierra Nevadas today from East to West. Climbed to 14.5 first and kept a lookout for downdrafts as the wind was out of the West. But it was smooth and beautiful.
  19. I think I would swap my M20R straight up for a Vans RV-8 AND and Vans RV-10.
  20. That's my setup. Works great. Only real complaint is that it often does not capture the glideslope. Not a huge deal. I anticipate that and manage the glideslope in VS mode with small adjustments to power and descent rate. Don't have WAAS, but nonprecision GPS approaches get me low enough. Would love a digital autopilot but I can live with this forever.
  21. Congratulations and welcome!
  22. I load the navigation db on a low capacity SD card (the G1000 doesn't seem to be able to handle high capacity cards), then put it in the top slot of the mfd, power up, it loads, power off, then repeat in the top slot of the pfd.
  23. In your neck of the woods, I love Ella's at the Airport Watsonville.
  24. Went to KCMA for breakfast this morning. Three Mooneys pulled up next to me but didn't stay long. Any of them Mooneyspacers by chance?
  25. Yup, I am interested.
