  1. Beechcraft has only sold 5 Bonanzas through the first 9 months of 2019. Premier had an Ovation Ultra listed and unsold for months earlier this year. Also had one or two Acclaims in inventory for awhile. Point is, at least as late as August, Mooney was manufacturing and selling product to its dealers that no end-user had actually ordered. Supply was out-pacing demand. Just seems like if there was a backlog of customers waiting for Mooney to fulfill their orders, we would have heard from at least some of those anxious customers here on MS.
  2. Need to replace a taxi light on my Ovation2. Maybe it's time to upgrade landing lights as well. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
  3. If the market has rejected aluminum, complex, high-performance singles, I don't see what the assets of this company would have to offer to someone who wants to design a trainer from a clean sheet. Is it just that we want to see the name and logo live on?
  4. Given all the changes that everyone seems to think are necessary for this company to survive, what are the essential elements that we care about saving? Is it just the name? The unique vertical stabilizer? A factory in Kerrville? For what, exactly, do we feel an affinity?
  5. If sold out until March means that Mooney's independently-owned dealers have ordered 4 planes, I imagine Mooney can meet that commitment even if they shut down for a week or two. I wonder whether Beechcraft has changed its production methods. Only produced 3 Bonanzas in the first half of this year. The realist in me suspects that Beechcraft and Mooney are having no problem keeping up with the demand for high-performance retractable siingles.
  6. As late as this past summer, one of the dealers was carrying new inventory for months on end. The Mooney website in 2018 said it was going to limit production to 70 units per year. I think they have been demand-constrained. Hard to believe that the same factory that used to make 200+ units per year changed production so drastically that they could only produce one unit per month. And I haven't seen anything anywhere about a waiting list.
  7. And with a little tailwind it's amazing how well that works out! https://flightaware.com/live/flight/map/N451US/history/20191029/1930Z/KHWD/KSNA
  8. I run 50 degrees LOP, see 165-168 true airspeed, hottest cylinder between 320 and 330 degrees. Only exception is around mountains if I am concerned about downdrafts. Then ROP.
  9. My G1000 did not have WAAS, but the GTX-345R was, itself, WAAS enabled. Satisfies the ADS-B requirement; just does not enable me to do precision GPS approaches.
  10. Nothing new. With the parallel runways, just be vigilant about wake turbulence. And, if landing 20L with a jet holding between the runways, be careful about jet blast. If you stay high to avoid the jet blast, be sure you've got the speed nailed because you will be giving up some runway. 20L is long enough, but not if you are high and fast.
  11. Love my long body Mooney (M20R), and I concur regarding taking airspeed (and trim) very seriously on landing. 75 kts and a normal descent profile and it's butter. 5 kts fast and you will be anxiously watching a lot of runway pass beneath you while you are hoping it settles down and hopefully resisting the temptation to put it down. 5 kts slow and you will be uncomfortably active with the yoke in order to arrest the descent. Trimming for 75 kts makes all of this much easier but also means that it takes a lot of attention to re-trim for a go around. Great aircraft.
  12. Thanks! Wish I knew where I was going! First time. Already stressing about the Fisk arrival.
  13. Are al of the GA camping areas now in use? What are the chances of getting a spot on Thursday morning.
  14. How is the field at Oshkosh? Are all GA Camping areas now in use? Arriving on Thursday and would really like to be able to park and camp.
  15. Thanks, yeah I noticed that. Should be off the ground by early afternoon at the latest. But wouldn't be shocked if I have to throw in a shallow 360.
  16. On the way to Oshkosh, was thinking either KVEL or KGJT before crossing the Rockies. Would love to hear from anyone with relevant experience.
  17. My son and I are flying in on the 25th. Would love to hear about the Caravan for next year if any of you are still in Oshkosh on Thursday.
  18. Heading to KLVK with my son tomorrow for the AOPA fly-in. Hope to meet some of you.
  19. My son and I will be getting to Oshkosh (our first!) on Thursday, July 25th. Hope some of you will still be around. Looking forward to meeting as many MooneySpacers as possible.
  20. I suspect that Mooney is behaving like a rational economic actor who is trying to maximize profits (through a combination of margin and volume) and is pricing accordingly.
  21. For most products, demand is price-elastic. The lower the price, the greater the demand. The demand for Ultras at their present prices is 1 per month. Demand at a lower price point would be greater. My guess is that costs (marginal costs, specifically) are the controlling factor in the current pricing of Ultras.
  22. I love my Mooney. But is there really a sound business case for Mooney, the company, to do anything other than shut down? They've been back in production for about 3 years and are averaging about one sale per month. The market for their existing products just is not there. The market for all high-performance singles is pretty small. If Mooney invested the resources to develop a new high-performance single just to get some of Cirrus' market share, would they ever recoup their investment?
  23. Thanks. Yeah, not talking about capture from above. My AP often fails to capture the GS when intercepting from below. The manual says (essentially) that the aircraft needs to be below the GS and tracking the localizer for 10 seconds before GS intercept in order for automatic GS capture to occur. That's a long time. At KSNA, I am vectored onto the localizer below but (I think) too close to GS intercept for automatic GS capture to occur. Never tried to manually arm the GS when that happens. Instead, I have either disengaged the AP or managed descent with VS. Will check out the earlier thread.
  24. My Stec 55x reliably intercepts the localizer but, about half the time, fails to couple with the glideslope, leaving me to manage descent with VS. Anyone else have this issue?
