  1. That's my setup. Works great. Only real complaint is that it often does not capture the glideslope. Not a huge deal. I anticipate that and manage the glideslope in VS mode with small adjustments to power and descent rate. Don't have WAAS, but nonprecision GPS approaches get me low enough. Would love a digital autopilot but I can live with this forever.
  2. Congratulations and welcome!
  3. I load the navigation db on a low capacity SD card (the G1000 doesn't seem to be able to handle high capacity cards), then put it in the top slot of the mfd, power up, it loads, power off, then repeat in the top slot of the pfd.
  4. In your neck of the woods, I love Ella's at the Airport Watsonville.
  5. Went to KCMA for breakfast this morning. Three Mooneys pulled up next to me but didn't stay long. Any of them Mooneyspacers by chance?
  6. Yup, I am interested.
  7. Don't forget the big watch! You might fall out of the sky without one,
  8. First stop Demning, NM? Looks like we fly the same routes.
  9. Thanks all. Both problems seem to have resolved themselves. No more database errors on the PFD and all of the XM weather products are back. Still not sure what happened or why it's no longer happening. But I'll take it.
  10. Thanks. No issues with recent updates and all databases are up to date. Have not done the WAAS upgrade. Just weird when a couple of seemingly unrelated things go buggy at the same time.
  11. Did some flying over the past two days and had two different bugs for the first time, maybe unrelated but I don't know. On the G1000 PFD got error alerts that the terrain databases were either missing or errors exist (can't remember which). But then on the next flight there was no error alert. On one flight all of my XM weather products gradually disappeared (metars, airmets/sigmets, precip). Some disappeared before others but over time they all disappeared. Then on the next flight they were all back. Any ideas as to what's going on?
  12. 234mph in level flight per flightaware.com. Was indicating about 169kts at 7500 feet, probably 40 degrees lean of peak. Good times.
  13. Good times. Thanks for organizing, @MooneyMitch. @MikeOH and Hilda, nice to meet you both. Let's do this again soon!
  14. I'm in. Looking forward to meeting you.
  15. Hoping to join you. Still negotiating with the family.
  16. Kinda wish I had the GFC700 instead of the STEC. It's just better. I don't miss WAAS. Nonprecision GPS approaches get me as close to the ground as I ever want to be in IMC. Love my Ovation2 GX and don't care about the resale value. Gonna fly it till (maybe just before) the wings fall off.
  17. Overchoice at Tucson International. Any recommendations on the FBOs?
  18. Thinking it would be nice to get out of town for a few days and make an adventure out of it.
  19. Any recommendations for a flight school where two of us (my son and I) would be able to both get tailwheel endorsements ideally over a three day period? Would consider any location in the lower 48.
  20. Trust but verify, nosky. You gotta back that up with a photo!
  21. Great trip, thanks for asking. Was dropping my son off for college. He just got his private so he did most of the work. I insisted on doing landings since it's a big transition from a C172. First hop KSNA to Double Eagle in Albuquerque. Then on to Kansas City for the night. Cool downtown. Never been. Next morning a quick hop to Chicago. On the advice of M20F, we went to Schaumburg, 06C. Perfect spot, just had to duck below the Bravo (was kinda expecting to get cleared through). On the way home, did it in on day, two hops. Probably mistake. Spent the afternoon getting bumped around and dodging build ups in New Mexico and Arizona. Should have called it a day around 1 pm. Lesson learned. And a great trip.
  22. Do any of you leave an extra set of keys in the plane? When I am on a trip I sometimes think this might be a good idea so I am not stranded if I misplace my keys.
  23. Hard to believe there is much of a market for this considering the recent sales of other high performance retractable singles.
  24. Took off twice in the past week from Albuquerque at pretty high density altitude and it seems like the pitch for Vy (and maybe even for Vx) at, say, 8,500 feet is lower than the pitch of the aircraft rolling down the runway. Is this right? If so, should I even be rotating at all? Or should I just be waiting for it to fly off and then pitch down a bit (which feels really weird so close to the ground) to accelerate to Vy?
