  1. I tell people that they would beg for my problems (meaning they are mostly trivial and I live a good life). Being a lowly caretaker of a C model, I too stare longingly at the ASI begging for more but mine reads a paltry 150 MPH and I would beg to read 190 - 200 KIAS or even a scant 150 KIAS! Well done solving your pitot static issue and glad to see Rockets still screaming along. A boy can dream
  2. or the GILL SEALED BATTERY 7035-28. I've used both and both are good. Jury is still out on the new style Gill's but I'm still satisfied in the first year of Gill use.
  3. Just saw an 172M for $89.9k and people were defending the price. A pponk 182 for $179k. You can buy a whole lotta of Mooney within that range with far better performance. Of course the 182 UL is generally between 1k and 1.4k depending on the model.
  4. Thanks for sharing--good video. I watched in "speed" mode so I didn't capture all the details. I do believe that your cowl flaps remained in the same position. Be sure to close your cowl flaps as part of your cruise checklist or in the downwind. Don Kaye has a good handout around here that has a great pattern flow that has a crosswind flow involving MP & RPM reduction; leaning; turning boost pump/closing cowl flaps; lowering gear and setting flaps. IIRC the handout is called Don Kaye Airventure 2019 (or something similar). Good luck! Not a CFI yet, just a Moonship caretaker.
  5. Agree with everyone's comments. Additionally we've all seen that there is a thirst for these old style planes in newer condition especially paint and avionics. We all know the industry is very fickle $100k+ plane today could be an $80k plane tomorrow depending on the freakonomics in effect at time. Having said that, I think that aviation improvements should be for you and not be treated as an investment still understanding that we don't want to throw money away and hope to recapture some of our upgrade costs when selling.
  6. Reach out to @Jeev @ sanjeev@wolfaviationsales.com. He had the best deal around when I bought mine and has helped many MSer's around.
  7. One should eat some pizza pie on pi day. And you should fly a four bladed fire breathing beast on pi day as well.
  8. Sorry for the late reply--the G3X STC requires a standalone AI (G5). I rarely look at it aside from using it to easily set the altimeter but it is certainly handy with the battery backup should you have any electrical issues. Having gone through this process a year ago and wanting to upgrade in stages I realized it was better to pay/cry once. versus the additive staged improvement process and the associated downtime. While I was an EFB warrior to start I find the SA offered through an integrated system improves my flying and safety 10 fold over an EFB even in VMC. Congratulations and good luck--go spend some of that stimulus money on your Moonship!
  9. @Raptor05121Great update Alex. Congrats on landing a 135 job during this period. If you need anything I'm 1 flying hour away at DAW... NE is a great rec flying area that you'll love in the Mooney.
  10. Welcome Hakar--you've come to the right place. Good luck.
  11. She is a pretty bird!
  12. OSH or bust for me!
  13. You're all focused on the scrawny, shirtless kid. I'm more surprised at all the space at OSH. Seems like we're all tightly packed tail to tail and wing to wing nowadays. Could only imagine what the rest of OSH was like back in the 80's.
  14. Any I get concerned when someone else makes a firm landing. Inverted in a new level of anger and distrust...ohhhh my.
  15. -a- the wiseguy There are plenty 'o ice shanties, ice houses, bob houses, etc. immediately outside the runway area. None in the parking area as the planes keep the fish away.
  16. Keep the dream. I was always told that the Shining was filmed in the Mt Washington Hotel only to later discover that was not accurate. I was sad
  17. Any day of the week conditions permitting, daytime ops only. There is a runway conditions line to check to ensure it is in safe condition/open. Lot of people go mid-week to avoid the airshow.
  18. It's shorter this year than it has been in the past. There is actually a State approved layout and airport plan for 3k as I recall. Just hit the required 12" of ice thickness for the runway. You'll still see open water areas on the lake not too far away from the runway and it hasn't been very cold in general this Winter until this past couple of weeks. My annual was the 1st week of January at LCI and that bay was all open water at the time. Hopefully the parallel taxiway will open up, but as you know the runway is short lived. Squam Lake is the "On Golden Pond lake" and is not the big lake (Winnie) but just around the corner in Holderness.
  19. It was a busy day up there today as it was opening weekend for the ice runway and the town's Winter Carnival as well. No parallel taxiway and a load of traffic meant landing 4 or 5 aircraft (4 in the pull off notches) and 1 or 2 on then back taxing all clear of the runway while arrivals hold. I flew over at 5.5k and elected not to land today as the parking area was packed. Joseph Morgano has a nice video on FB of his arrival and departure.
  20. So I get a new prop since this one is "defective"? I'll tell the CFO ASAP and get one on order
  21. @Mooneymite Epic post--thank you.
  22. I took the OPS question that he OP was buying a brand C plane not a C model Mooney. I think one that rhymes with Says-nah. And the question was the merits of JPI versus legacy round dial gauges. To that end I prefer the compactness, resolution and accuracy of the JPI over the round dials. I will say the JPI has changed the way I fly...for the better.
  23. Based on favorable recent reports I purchased a Gill LT sealed battery and have been quite happy in the 5 weeks of ownership. Will report back of any concerns. At a $75 (25%) savings it was worth the risk to me. I'm hoping that I won't end up bitter about the purchase
  24. I'm surprised that 75 is too fast. I stall right at 58 MIAS which brings me to the 75. And in practice if I want a bit of a buffer from the stall horn due to turbulent conditions 78 is preferred.
  25. Not quite between two airports you listed. I expect you'll hear a couple of votes for Infinity Aviation (recent former MSC) at ASH. Not far from Boston or TAN. Are you buying a C or an O3????
