I wish I was closer. I am all the way down in Alabama. I will certainly keep your shop in mind, but based on distance I will also look at other shops. -

I have a 68 M20F. I have had my heart set on the Dynon package for quite some time now. All I need is for it to be approved and a bucket full of cash. -

Buying the lifetime subscription for the iPad app I feel pretty safe about. Buying the lifetime data for the Dynon Skyview before they have approved the autopilot for my airplane is where I am taking a leap of faith. -

Hopefully nobody is very superstitious because I did something today and hope I did not jinx us. Today I bit the bullet and purchased the lifetime subscription for Seattle Avionics FlyQ software as well as charts and data for Dynon systems. I really want this full system including autopilot for my M20F. My fingers are crossed that I will be able to put that lifetime subscription to good use soon. -
Mooney down in St. Augustine FL

I am not aware of the exact depth there in that marshy area, but the pictures of the plane show that it had settled mostly above water. As for shoulder harnesses, I did not ask but I think (correct me if I am wrong) shoulder harnesses were standard on the mid 80's 20J. He did not expand on the words "really quick" and I know I personally do not want to test how fast it is. LOL -

Spoke with the pilot on FB and was told the this was the first flight on the plane after annual. Engine failed about 1.5 mile final forcing them to ditch short of the runway. Passenger had a broken arm and the pilot had a 10 inch gash to the side of his head. He also advised me that the water comes into the cockpit really quick. Thankfully it was shallow water and they both got out okay. -
I actually flew with the pilot when I was in the Army. Glad everyone was able to walk away with just minor injuries. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.news4jax.com/news/local/st-augustine/airplane-crashes-into-marsh-near-st-augustine-airport

I am not sure if this is the most current thread on the Sabrecowl or not, but I am definitely anxious to get my hands on this for my M20F. My cowlings were already looking rough, but after a short flight today I found a good size crack in the front of the lower cowl. Not sure if it happened today or if it came back from annual that way. Unfortunately I was out of country and had the plane ferried back after the annual. I already wanted this Sabrecowl, but now I want it even more.

I have a 68 M20F and as long as it will fit, I am very interested in this new cowling, especially if it is lighter. Old girl can always stand to lose a few pounds. I really hope I can get this before I send the plane off to get painted which I plan to do in 2020.

The 68 M20F is a 14 Volt system. I have no idea if that is common across all the older Mooney's.

I was just on the uAvionix site and they still list the experimental version for $1,595. Nothing there about the certified one we are all waiting for. EDIT: Going back I did find the pre-order area for the certified version and it does show an estimated final price of $1,995...... my bad.

I wish I could be more help to you but I struck out. The problem is that almost all the A&P mechanics in the area work on helicopters out at Fort Rucker and that's all they ever do. The contacts I have all basically said they have not touched a piston engine in over 15 years since they graduated from A&P school. Having said there there is something else you can try. Just up the road from Dothan is the town of Ozark. At the Ozark airport there is a community college that trains A&P mechanics. You might try reaching out to them for some help. Obviously the instructors should be very proficient. Just a thought. Here is the web address for the college. https://www.escc.edu/alabama-aviation-center/ozark-campus/ I wish there was more I could do for you. I feel your pain but with me being overseas my hands are tied. Best of luck.

Just this last annual I had a new IFD 440 installed so I am set with a great IFR WAAS navigator. I also got a L3-Lynx so I am set with a great ADS-B in and out and would not need that from Dynon. Basically I would need the main Skyview HDX system with engine monitoring and auto-pilot. If this is going to be my forever plane then I want to put a forever panel in it that will increase safety and reliability.
-
Aside from the shop, I personally know 3 other A&P's in the Area. All of them work out at Fort Rucker on helicopters primarily. Let me reach out and see what I can do. Will get back to you.

I live in the Dothan Area but am currently overseas for work so I do not have all my information available. If you talk to the folks there at the FBO they have the contact info for a small shop there on the airfield. I had my tires changed by them after I got a little too heavy on the brakes. Unfortunately, I don't recall the shop name but as I said, the FBO has all the info. Good luck.

How much of a deposit are we talking about here? I really do want this system installed but not having the autopilot certified yet really gives me pause.

A few years back I was stationed in Germany flying VIP business jets all over Europe. I had a trip when my card stopped working as well. I had already notified the card company I was moving to Germany and all had been fine since I arrived. The night the card stopped working I called them up. They said there was suspicious activity on the card. All in the same day my card was used in Germany, Turkey, and then Portugal. I had to explain that I fly jets for a living. I bought a couple Cokes in Germany before my flight. Had lunch in Turkey when we were picking up our passenger. I had dinner in Portugal when we dropped him off. I have never had a problem since.

My understanding on the ADS-B rebates is that you have to wait and see if any rebated were forfeited. There was a specific day of the week they will post any that come available. When they do come up they are first come first serve. All the info is on the FAA ADS-B rebate site.

I posted this link in another thread. It seems like a really cool idea. Says it is non-toxic and not corrosive. The only real drawback I see is once you start it you can't stop it. https://elementfire.com/

Brian, I had the exact same question as you. I used Google and found the following website that allows you to make and save the map. From there you can insert it into your profile. As you can tell, my map has almost nowhere I have taken my Mooney to. I am tempted to put the places I have visited for work LOL. That would be quite the map. https://visitedstatesmap.com/

here is some of the info from the FAQ on the website. I am not a scientist, but if these claims are all true, then it could be a good option. It even says it is non-corrosive. Using any type of a fire extinguisher inside a small enclosed space I am sure presents at least some level of hazard. IS THE GAS SAFE TO BREATHE? Element's discharge is safe to breathe and is both non-corrosive and non-toxic. General safe practices are always recommended and the discharge should not be aimed at a person's face. HOW DOES ELEMENT WORK? Element works by fighting fires on the molecular level. Its gas chemically interrupts the chain of combustion effectively extinguishing a fire without making any mess and without removing surrounding oxygen.

I saw these a few months ago and think they look very interesting. Also very portable. https://elementfire.com/

Do you or have you named your plane?

With all the issues in this first annual since I got her, I am thinking of the name Christine after the possessed car in the Stephen King Book. -

I am also doing to do this upgrade at some point. PM Sent. -
I sort of went the CB method for an iPad Mini mount and thought I could do better than some of the others out there. Even if I fail, it was a fun project. My plane is currently out of state getting work done but I have a spare yoke assembly at the house I could use as an example. This is just very light aluminum from Lowes and some small screws to hold it all together. My only concern is that it might sit high enough to block part of my instruments. Hopefully I will see over the top with no problem. This is version 1.0, so if there is a problem I will try 2.0.
