  1. Reviving this old topic to ask a question. My situation is that the handle on my J-bar has gotten very difficult to slide up and down. I am planning to jack up the plane and tackle the job of removing the handle for cleaning, lubrication, and reassembly. From this thread as well as others, I was able to get some great information and tips for completing the job. The question that I was unable to answer in my reading is what lubricant people are using? Is there a specific grease or other lubricant I should be looking for? Thanks
  2. I know this is an old thread, but I have an autopilot that may be having the exact same issues. My autopilot is an S-tec 50 and when I very first bought my plane, the autopilot would track in NAV and APP mode very well. Almost immediately after getting the plane I took out the old Garmin VFR only GPS/COM and replaced it with an IFD 440. since that time, the autopilot has never been the same. Specifically it seems @Jake@BevanAviation is the man to talk to. I know we are headed into the weekend but perhaps next week we can chat about what the best way to get this problem worked on might be. I am even open to the idea of flying my plane to you and sitting for a few days. Thanks
  3. No visible yaw that I have to correct for.
  4. I am going to add another option to the discussion. The Levil Aviation BOM. Think of a small torpedo looking device that you mount under your wing. It has an on board battery for start up and taxi, but once in flight the small impeller on the back spins to power the unit. This unit will give you AHRS, actual airspeed from a built in pilot, altitude based on current altimeter, and of course ADSB in. Off the top of my head I do not recall if it is dual band or just single. It interfaces with most all EFB programs and Levil has their own display software which is very nice. I can't say for certain, but it may also broadcast to your IFD once you update to 10.3 I will say about 2 weeks after I installed the BOM I had a vacuum failure while dodging storms. It was amazing to still have a display with attitude and heading. Attached are pics of the BOM installed on my plane. Please excuse the paint, it is a work in progress.
  5. I also have bladders and the CiES senders with no issues. Mine have been installed since 2018.
  6. What wigtips did you buy and if they don't fit are you looking to sell them? Depending on what they are, I might be interested.
  7. I know this thread is a little bit old, but I have located the drawing 0599 and have attached it if anyone else needs them. 0599 SH1 REVG.pdf 0599 SH2 REVG.pdf
  8. Thanks for the info Jake. As I said before, I think leaving my current DG in the plane (just moved to another hole) will allow me to get everything set up with the least amount of problems. Of course the absolute miracle would be if the Uavionix autopilot adapter box gets approved before my annual. Just not seeming very likely right now.
  9. The more I think on it, I believe I have the plan for now. Not the greatest plan by any means, but one that will guarantee everything works. I will have them remove the #2 NAV CDI but leave all wiring in place. Move my current vacuum DG to that slot so I will still have heading functions for my autopilot. Then I will install the AV-30'S as primary ADI and DG. Using this plan, I can absolutely add the GPSS to the autopilot because the original DG is still in the panel. The only big drawback to this plan is that I will still need the vacuum system so I can't remove it. Still, I feel this plan will allow all the new equipment I want installed during this annual and a minimum amount of effort to make the final changes once the AV-30 is certified to drive the autopilot.
  10. I absolutely plan to. For now I was just trying to get an idea if this was even a possibility before I start talking to the shop. Right now I am overseas for work and won't be back in the states for a couple months.
  11. That is the issue, right now it will not work. Uavionix is still certifying the box that will allow them to work together. So my question is, can the GPSS system be installed and functional even if it is not hooked up to a DG for heading mode. Can the GPSS mode operate without heading from a DG.
  12. Thanks for your input. Certainly buying products that already have all functions approved by the FAA is the best way to go. Buying an item without that requires a little faith. Regarding the STC from S-tec, from my research which includes other threads from Mooneyspace, there is no STC for the GPSS. It is considered and option for the autopilot which I already have the STC for. Hence it can be installed with just a logbook entry and of course adding the users manual to my flight pubs.
  13. I hate to start a new topic only to have someone say I should have used the search function. Well I did the search and this thread seems the most applicable. My situation is that I purchased 2 AV-30's last week just before the $300 per unit increase. I had been holding out until the adapter box to allow the heading bug to drive my S-tec autopilot was approved but who knows how much longer for that. Also I recently bought an S-tec GPSS steering system off ebay. My question is this, is it possible to install the GPSS and the AV-30 during my next annual and have the GPSS functionality even though there is nothing connected to a heading bug? Is my best bet to just try and be patient and get the whole installation done once the AV-30 can interface to the autopilot so that everything is done in one big shot and not have to go back later to add it? Thoughts???
  14. While I did think of this solution I have not done the leg work on it. I am under the assumption that simply putting it on the bench test with those shops would be quite costly. But I to cover my bases, I will at least see how much they are wanting to perform such a service.
  15. Hello all. I would like to add the WX-500 stormscope system to my panel when I do my next big upgrade. I have been acquiring parts slowly but would like to have the Dynon autopilot approved before I pull the trigger on the upgrade. I was recently able to get a WX-500 processor but really need to test it. If any of you have the WX-500 system and would be willing to use your plane to test my processor box I would greatly appreciate it. Simply plugging it in and running the ground test would be sufficient; even better would be if you were willing to take a flight with it installed. I would be willing to offer $100 to cover the cost of your time as well as the return shipping back to me. Of course my preference would be to do this locally but I am out of town for business. Please PM me if you are able to help out and we can work out the details.
  16. Thank you but I do not need the display. I will be using my L3 Lynx transponder as the display as well as my IFD-440. Having said that, I did locate a processor at a good price, but still need the rack, cable, and antenna if you happen to have any of those laying around. Thanks
  17. I realize this is a very old topic, but do you still have this available?
  18. Hello all. I was able to get a good deal on a used PMA-450B audio panel and updated my radio stack. My old and fully functional GMA-340 is now up for sale. I am including the rack mount and wiring harness that came with the PMA-450B I got. The audio panels as "slide in" replacements so there is absolutely no issue with using the Garmin panel with the PMA rack. I 100% guarantee it is fully operational and ready to go. I will list it here for $550 and that is including shipping to the lower 48. Alaska, Hawaii, or foreign address I will have to get back with you for a final price including the shipping. I will leave it here on Mooney Space for 1 week and then list it on eBay. Thanks
  19. What about Venice Fl (KVNC). On the field is a certified Mooney service center, Sarasota Avionics and Maintenance. They may not be the most economical place to get the work done but they have always been very professional and high quality for me.
  20. I used the screws from one of the forward access panels under the left wing to mount the bracket.
  21. I actually have one installed on my plane and about 2 weeks after installation my vacuum pump died in IMC dodging storms. It is a great little device. Before you ask, I don't have all my power settings and speeds nailed down so I can't vouch for any speed loss.
  22. Are you looking to sell one? I could definitely be interested if that is the case and the price is right.
  23. Hello there. I find myself in need of something like this as I now have a vertically challenged co-pilot. If it is still available, how does $50 sound? Thanks
  24. Man, where was this deal about 3 years ago when I put 64 gallon bladders in my F. Somebody will grab these up i am sure.
  25. Thank all of you for your feedback. I just needed to hear from a few others that I was doing the right thing to wait. And yes, I will get everything I can done and cleaned up on the exterior before I send it to the paint shop.
