  1. I would look into an Approach systems hub for installation of the avionics. They will build you all the harnesses you need and the you just plug them in. The power and ground wires are separate. The good part is when you want to make a change you only have to change one harness not the whole thing. www.approachfaststack.com
  2. Cliffy, Great advice, older Boeing’s did not have takeoff warning systems until several accidents occurred then they were all retrofitted. On all Boeing aircraft if the trim is not in the green band on the trim indicator the warning will sound when the thrust levers are advanced for takeoff.
  3. I sat next to a senior FAA Air traffic controller on my way to ABQ on Monday and he said it was over trying to privatize. They found out it was going to cost in the billions to make it happen.
  4. I do like the SS upgrades. I would think you are just asking for more corrosion problems with them out.
  5. I just noticed in SI-114 that the tie down rings should not be left in for flight. Does everyone take the rings out for flight? I wonder what the logic is for that?
  6. For another 50.00 (250.00 total) you can get a Stratux and have AHRS and GPS. I built one a couple of years ago and it works great.
  7. I also changed the Dome Light with a white light. I can also use is as a cockpit reading light because of its swivel aim ability.
  8. Here is a picture of the lights.
  9. Go to: cockpitlights.com I installed Dave’s lights in my airplane. It is true the old stock dimmer needs to be changed if you want them to dim. I did not change it out. Now that I am older I need more light anyway.
  10. I just called Garmin and they verified that they are allowing A&P’s install the GDL-82. Good news for everyone. Work with your A&P / IA to get it installed.
  11. This thread on icing has been quite passionate. A story about flying in icing conditions and what happened. It was great that it worked out for you and you made it on the ground safely. I am sure a lot of us have stories like it, I do. I am also new to the Mooney forum. I started out a small single engine Pilot and have worked my way up the ladder to ATP flying all Boeing airplanes. I have been flying since I was 17 and now have 45 years in aviation. I don’t claim to know it all, in fact this website is a great example of crew resource management. But I do take issue with low post numbers for credibility. There is no argument that flying in icing with no anti ice or deice is a dangerous situation. I recall a few years ago, on the east coast, a single engine turboprop stalled in icing conditions and could not recover from over 10,000 feet. If you are an instrument rated pilot you will eventually encounter ice. Early detection is critical. At night even in the Boeing I have my flashlight out and check the windshield wipers all the time when in icing conditions exist. Anytime icing conditions exist engine anti-ice is on. Getting back to the original story, every icing encounter is different and as you fly through the precipitation the density varies along with temperature. One ice encounter you may make it through and say I won’t do that again or you may become another accident we will hear about with a tragic outcome. Be careful and always have a plan B and C for “just in case”when in the clouds, just as you would for mechanical failure. Fly safe, Kevin
  12. That is really not a dumb question. When I bought my Mooney there where lots of things that had changed over the years and when I go to fix them I have to try and figure out how it was originally. I have some clips at the bottom of my front spar that must have held in a panel to cover it up, but the spar was just carpeted over. Now I am trying to find out what was there. I just changed my carpet and bought it from Plane Plastics. It comes with a certificate of compliance. Sorry I am no help to your question but someone I am sure knows the answer.
  13. I really wanted an all white led but Whelen only makes all white in 24V.
  14. Which LED are you guys buying for the bottom strobe? I have only seen the half red half white. Thanks, Kevin
  15. Thanks for the info. It was obvious that they were not understanding what was going on. It definitely looked like a great place to fly. OK, I looked it up a quid is a pound.
  16. Not trying to be to critical here but it might have been a good idea to have gotten that CFI Briefing before he took off to fly to London. In many countries flight levels start above 4000 feet. So when he checked in for radar service he said he was at 7000 feet, you could tell the controller was bothered by that. When I fly to Cuba or Europe it is definitely a mind struggle to say flight levels below 18000 feet. It would be interesting to know the fees for each level of service. Canada has different levels but they do have an “all in” once a year fee.
  17. You need to ask yourself a few questions before you decide what is the best equipment to install. Will I want to fly outside of the US? Will I want to upgrade my 430 to a W. What kind of xponder do I have currently installed? The GDL 82 and the upcoming Sky Beacon only broadcast on 978 UAT. That is US only. The 82 will not work with an S mode xponder. The rest of the world is adopting 1090 ES as the standard. Just a few thoughts, I am sure that is not all the questions?
  18. That’s what I thought. We are all one big Disfuntional family. Going over to the hangar to verify my P/N. I will have my order in today. Thanks Kevin
  19. I installed the Trig because last year they were the only manufacturer that gave you the STC for ADSB out when you buy the Transponder. So any A&P could install it. Since then Garmin has been selling one of there Transponders with the STC until December. Not a factor for you. I just thought I would give you the rest of the story.
  20. If I use PayPal do you want me to choose business or friends and family? Business choice takes a cut of the money. Thanks, Kevin
  21. While you have it up, also check the vertical play of the nose gear truss. Mine was moving a quarter to a half inch of play. Should not have any. LASAR rebuilt it and I installed the steering horn STC and it is like a new plane.
  22. I installed a Trig Transponder (TT 31) which is a direct replacement for the King KT-76A. It is a good unit and does not have a cavity tube.
  23. Call aircraft quality instruments and ask them if they have a indicator face with knots. I just had them overhaul my airspeed indicator and the put a new face in it for 30.00 dollars I think it was.
  24. Sounds like air got into the system. The breaks and the flaps share the same reservoir.
