I'm glad I asked this question since apparently this topic is mis understood by many. @carusoam my assumption was that if I picked up 25 hours that I could show in make/model (from being a safety pilot), that the insurance would like me just a little bit more and lower their rates. Maybe that was a poor assumption, I dunno. These safety pilot hours were not to replace the insurance transition training but to pad my experience resume that they use for underwriting.

Negative. Unless you're Kristen at BWI? She just found a 2nd option for $4500 annually. That's pretty much what I had expected. I'm happy to connect with you though.

I got a quote for a $240k hull value Ovation and the price was a fair amount more than I expected. I've got about 250 hrs M20E time but no HP. The insurance said many brokers wouldn't quote me but the one that did offered it at $8500 for the year. Since I'm a man of many thoughts, always finding a better way, I figured I would whore myself out to anyone who needs a safety pilot in an M20R so that I can build my time in Make/Model such that they'll love me more when I finally buy mine. @Parker_Woodruff is there a better way that my sleepy brain has not come up with yet?

Mee too

There's a couple of us, me included, who seem really anxious to get into the ovation sooner than later. Sucks there aren't more to choose from.

I hadn't thought of it until now, but yes, the fuel truck guys dug some ice out of the fuel caps too. Made me thankful AGL did my O rings right and none got into the tanks.

My wife, kiddo, and I flew down to Cartersville(KVPC I think) Georgia outside of Atlanta and were forced to tie down outside. It rained real well on Christmas Eve and then got below freezing. I didn't think anything of it until we got in the plane today and fired up. Immediately you could tell something was off. It was very confusing since shutting down a few days before everything was perfectly smooth. I thought maybe the FBO towed it around and damaged the prop, but we were in the same parking spot as before. I shut down a few times and restarted thinking maybe it was only running on three cylinders. The whole time I'm trying to remain cool in front of my wife and kid but clearly knowing something's not right. The first clue that I had was the prop slinging water on the ground as it was idling. I got out of the cabin a couple times with the engine off to try and see, maybe it was an engine mount failure. But it finally registered with me to check the inside of the spinner. Sure enough, there it was. A large amount of ice. I never pay attention to the orientation that the prop stops since with the three blades, it is somewhat random. But going forward I'll definitely be watching this should we find ourselves tying down outside again.

Damn tease. Hold one for me for 2nd quarter next year.

Didn't realize pumps are so expensive. Gotta pay to play! Coming from my E @ 130kts, I'll be ok with a few lost off an R @ 170kts. Was planning on finding one without AC for UL considerations.

Seems pretty easy to see what I'll be focusing on. Thanks y'all's.

I'm going to start my serious shopping early next year with the goal of upgrading to an Ovation 2nd quarter 2021. If I found the perfect bird without FIKI, I'm wondering how practical or difficult it would be to add ice protection after acquisition? What expense is involved? Side note, anyone with an off market ovation you're looking to sell same timeline, send me a PM.

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update

Are you saying 2 weeks for trutrak or Garmin short bodies? -
I also had my first annual there this year and was beyond impressed with their work. Told them they will be maintaining my Mooney for as long as I'm part of the club.

The early SBs had curved ailerons that require a different (higher I believe) control force input. I'm sure there is more but you can see that curve on the bottom of them. -
A friend of mine was trying to steer me away from instructing, just as something fun to do. His argument was that your signature in a log book exposes you to unnecessary liability, especially if you have any amount of assets to your name. His business has done extremely well and has created wealth. Mine too, which was why he was giving me this council. He was saying a deceased family member's lawyer would T up on a high net worth individual for signing off in their logbook at some point in the past. Any validity to this argument?

Wife and I are budgeting to move to a fiki Ovation next year. Dx or gx is the decision. Seems yours is the perfect merger of both. -

I thought BK made the purchase to make TT things better and expedite the production? At this point, it's looking like they made the acquisition just to pronounce a death sentence overtop a superior product- or at least one that was positioned to hurt their market share? I did the corridors almost exactly a year ago and finished the routes around 1030 as I remember. It was WINDY. Plane dropped a wing into an instant unusual attitude on the furthest east route with my wife and baby in her belly. My brain went to mush after that, got a number to call at grand canyon airport when I came in and landed without a clearance. Long story short, pay attention to the TAFs. I wouldn't fly over 15 knot gusts, was gusting to nearly 30 when my incident happened. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

Dynon Avionics - No major announcement today?
NJMac replied to NotarPilot's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion

The missing middle... $55-75k Mooneys... or do my own panel?
NJMac replied to Betty_the_Mooney's topic in General Mooney Talk
That's about right. Speaking from experience unfortunately. You can look thru my photo albums and see the work. I stopped counting about $10,000 ago. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

Glad you saw him! Hate hearing of close calls like this. Worst case scenario, if he was squaking 7600, would you know on the ground? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

Amidst Covid, Garmin gets an approval for their autoland yet we can't get an additional airframe of an already certified autopilot? That doesn't pass the smell test, BK. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
