I don't specifically have a mission. I got my license and now this plane just to get around to see family. I think the closest thing to a mission would be me saying I want to go fast like Ricky Bobby. Typical flight being 3 hours or so. I convinced my wife that we could recoup our investment on this plane when we upgrade versus throwing money away on the rental for my instrument ticket. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

And that's what I'm struggling with. The panel works now exactly as it is. Money spent now on the plane is less money that I could otherwise invest in our commercial real estate portfolio and see great returns on in the future.. Do I just do a cheap Stratus adsb upgrade and call it legal? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I can totally see that this upgrade process is going to be like giving a mouse a cookie. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

If a 430w is going to set me back $6500, would the ROI be there at resale if i sprung for a new gtn 650? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

We just came into our E model and i want to bring it into this century for nav/com equipment. I dont think ill ever do glass in this plane since my needs will dictate a 6 place plane in 5-8 years. But for the mean time, id like to do some basic mods to make this plane safer and easier to enjoy. I was thinking a 430 or 530 plus an adsb solution and leaving the old steam guages. Looking for feedback from those who have done similarly about what you would do again or do differently. Mind sharing what the investment was? I got a verbal quote for $18k for a 430, adsb, and new com pannel but dont know exactly what it included. Waiting for it to be emailed. I almost think im a perfect candidate to wait for the Dynon approval so i can upgrade everything in one fell swoop but that begs the question, how long? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Maybe i dont understand the legal protection you referenced.

Really appreciate this insight. I figured with him doing the annual and prebuy at the same time, it would drag out. I forgot to mention, he also runs the books for the flight school and is the airport manager. Ive gotten to know him well over the last year and a half doing lessons in the rental and totally trust his integrity. I had been buying 1 amu blocks from the school and his math was always dead on with my spreadsheet. I talked with him earlier today. They have most everything inspected less the landing gear. He is fitting mine in among a few other planes in his shop. He did say there were a few items that needed attention now. 2 exhaust gaskets. Replacing something with a slick start coil pack type thing. Said the oil analysis came back clean. Suggested replacing /adding some insulation in the cabin. A gasket on a fuel sender unit. Really minor things. But, he did take 10 lbs of old avionics oit of the pannel. Hard to think its been updated but apparently there were some old items not needed but left hidden behind the pannel. @gsxrpilot i think you might can put this one in your win column. I think you saw the ebay listing. He took $1500 off that and flew it to us no charge. Looking like we will have funds to go straight into the pannel updates.

Kinda what i was thinking. Way to paint with broad strokes. I truly belive Ive got nothing to worry about with this guy. Truly seems like a stand up gentleman.

Thanks all for your feedback. Ill be up at the field tomorrow for an instrument lesson. Ill poke into his shop afterwards. I was up there last Saturday to see it for the first time. Really made me happy! He had gone over the engine at that point. Hopefully when i see him tomorrow all the squawks will be found and we can start an action plan. Hate to disappoint all the owner assisted fans. Ill turn a wrench for work on occasion if need be, but i just dont have the time or desire to do it off the clock. I started and help lead one multi million dollar company and am launching another. Work and our crazy goals (inc 5000 list) keeps me preoccupied to the point where i wouldn't have time to assist. Edit - after reading some comments again, i wonder if background is important. Our field is in the middle of no where and is super relaxed. Knowing this guy from the terminal, my guess is this guy works at his own sweet pace and couldnt be hurried if i wanted to. I was just looking for ballparks from other shops or experiences.

Ive never owned a plane before so I dont know what ti expect. Mechanic is also concurrently doing the post buy inspection since we didnt do a prebuy. Its been over 2 weeks and I havnt heard anything. Ive restrained from calling or texting since i dont want to be "that guy". But its to the point where im thinking of buying a 2nd plane just to fly while the other is in for maintenance and vice-versa.

Appreciate the further explanation on the membership process. My e is stuck in mx getting the annual and will probably upgrade the pannel as soon as that is done. Happy skies!

Nice to meet you here. Love your panel.

2 things got me to Mooney. 1. I wanted to go fast. At first i was going to have my business finance a newer cirrus. The mechanic at KSCA easily talked me out of that idea and i decided to work with my personal cash. So i started looking into the older classics. Was between a c or e Mooney and an older 33 or 35 Bonanza. The fuel economy pushed me to the Mooney. 2. Seeing how chrixxers plane handled his impact sealed the deal for me. Thanks all for welcoming me to the fam.

Thanks for the welcome gents. Roll of the dice, yes. Im an impulisive guy and often go with my gut. It usually works out. I went to go see it for the first time today. Really happy with my purchase! Cant wait to start enjoying her. We're calling it our Hawaiian cream puff. Took some pics of the panel just now. Its a panel only an owner could love. Thinking im going to have the shop install a 345 and 430w before i start using her and doing my instrument training. My assumption is ill keep this plane for about 5 years so i dont want to go overboard on the panel. Assuming i can recoupe the cost basis if i stay low key now.

Just got my ppl last week of Sept and decided to go all in. I had posted some of this on the Facebook mooney group but here's a little more since the setting is less personal. My wife and I were in Hawaii the first 2 weeks of Oct and while we were there, the mechanic at KSCA texts me about what is now our plane on EBay. He had seen the log books already and thought it was a good deal. So we bid and at the last second didnt get the win. I had talked with the seller that morning before bidding and texted him after i didnt win, and just asked him to think of us and our cash if the winner didnt work out. He called a few days later and after a few calls, we end up in an agreement to buy his plane. But we're halfway around the world in paradise and he wants paid. I coordinate thru the 6 hr time zone change a wire deposit to be sent and the seller agrees to fly the plane to its new home. He gets there to collect the balance in a cashiers check one of my employees had ran to the field. After a day in the courtesy car running around rural Sidney, my cfi flies him to KCMH to catch his commercial flight out. Incase anyone was wondering how to buy a plane sight unseen with no involvement from half way around the globe. There it is. Just need a few good men involved. Its in the shop for annual now. Engine is good, just a few minor squaks. Airframe should be this coming week. Someone on fb said they are keeping track of "deals" outcomes when bought this way. Ill keep an honest update as things happen. Hoping this goes in the win column. Cant wait for training in my plane. Want to be able to fly my family to ATL for thanksgiving.

Did I see mention of sweatshirts? Can you give us a link to your store on amazon where we can see all your items?

Small world! Congrats on your new plane. My wife and I just got an E. Being from Troy, I actually emailed Colleen about keeping our plane at your field and the impression I took away from her emails was that i had to audition and prove mtself to be part of your club there. We choose to base as Sidney after those emails.
