  1. I've put about 50-60 hours on it since I got it. The previous owner was in southern Ohio. I never actually met him. Bought it via San Antonio. I don't think it was in San Antonio more than a couple months though.
  2. Doing some other maintenance this morning and discovered this. Pulled the rest and there are 3 this bad or worse and 3 more with much smaller chips. I need a new cam and maybe an overhaul. I bought the plane in October and while the previous owner wasn’t flying it a lot at that point, it was still being flown. The engine is 1200 SNEW (2000 Ovation 2). This was not the plan when I got up this morning that’s for sure. Has anyone here used Aero Engines in Winchester VA? I’ve found a few positive reviews online and they are recommended by my IA. Considering having them overhaul it and just be done with any major engine maintenance hopefully for a long time.
  3. I don't think that's realistic if you are talking two GPSs. With one GPS, and assuming you already have a ADS-B transponder and are not needing that in this update, maybe - but you are still probably pushing that budget. Find a candidate plane and ask an avionics shop for an estimate.
  4. These guys sell small quantities of paint and touch up kits. A little practice with a detail sprayer and you can get really good results. http://www.aerotouchups.com/index.html
  5. Has anyone who has upgraded to an EDM 900 dealt with the factory hour meter? Should it keep working? Or will it go inop and need to be replaced with something else? And/or does the EDM 900 track the time instead? If anyone has done this upgrade on a Moritz equipped Ovation and removed the Moritz gauge cluster, I'm curious how the hour meter worked afterward.
  6. I had a hard time finding some lengths in stainless and the little retainers. These guys have everything. http://www.milspecproducts.com/
  7. I sent in my order.
  8. Do we have the 5 for the group buy? If so, lets do it. But if not, I'll order through Lance before the price hike.
  9. Call Mooney. When I got my Ovation, I called them to ask about where to get it and they sent me electronic copies of both the parts manual and the service manual. They were extremely helpful with that and actually everything I've called about.
  10. I can hold the wheel straight whether the rudder is trimmed for take off or not. Wouldn’t the rudder trim have the same force on it whether I set in motion and held the rudder straight or the rudder is stationary straight and I apply the trim?
  11. I've also never heard not to use the rudder trim unless in motion. I don't like fighting it while taxiing so I keep it centered and then set it to take off in the pre-take off checklist. What is the issue with adjusting it stationary?
  12. PM sent. I'm also interested depending on the price.
  13. The way I do it, if you have the time for the download, is to change the states that you want as discussed above. Then, I delete all and click download. It will download everything again but only the states you want. All the others get deleted.
  14. The one in my ovation will charge an ipad no problem. I also have one of these and it works really well. It can charge an ipad several times over and keep a stratus running for many many hours before recharging. Note that that if you drain it all the way it takes something like 12 hours to fully recharge. https://www.ravpower.com/26800mah-external-battery-charger-iSmart2.0-black.html
  15. I wonder if it has something to do with it being exported?
  16. Its an Ovation. N430G. I've seen it in some of their videos. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N430G/history It spent a lot of time flying to Wichita in December and January. A whole bunch of flights to the Beech Factory in January and March, and a string of flights to nowhere on March 8. Is flight testing something for us wishful thinking?
  17. There's a MAPA program in NH this fall too. I plan on attending the September session in Manchester. http://www.mapasafety.com/
  18. As noted above, its the pitot drain. Checking it is part of the pre-flight at least in the Ovation manual.
  19. Its on the schedule for my avionics work next month. I'm hoping they can figure out how to get it in there. Tagging along for tips.
  20. @dimondan is a great Mooney instructor in the area. Based at JYO.
  21. Can't make tomorrow - its supposed to snow in the afternoon at home and no IFR rating yet. If there is a list, please put me on it. I'll watch for next time. Would be great to meet people.
  22. I just put aeroleds in my ovation and am very pleased with them. It’s a different size and location so a bit different than yours but install was no different than replacing the bulbs.
  23. I bought a set from Alpha Aviation. The cost was reasonable for something marketed for "aircraft" and the quality is good. @cnoe - why do you advise against using the engine hoist ring? That's what Mooney says that you should use. http://www.mooney.com/en/si/M20-114.pdf I got a 2 ton hoistfrom harbor freight. Works great and didn't cost all that much.
  24. My 2000 O2 has a timer. I also couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Went and did something else and came back maybe 10 minutes later and it was off.
  25. I've had getting one of these on my list and just haven't gotten to it. The coupon code still works - saw this thread and ordered one yesterday.
