  1. Here is the latest update of my 252 Encore. I put the deposit on the equipment in late-late 2018 to take advantage of Garmin's holiday promotions. Because I have a factory 252 Encore, my vacuum was completely removed (primary and backup) for this upgrade as my speed brakes are electric and I am on the 28v electrical system with dual alternators. What I installed: G500 TXi, G5 backup, WX-500, EDM 930 to replace all my primary insturments, and CiES fuel senders. With the update, I was able to gain almost 50lbs by replacing the round gauges with glass - now up to 1110 #UL. I already had the GTN 750, FS 510, GMA 35c, and GTX 345. I'd still like to remove the KX155 with something more modern but that'll have to wait until next time. I had a big pause the first week of April when Garmin announced their G3X Certified. I was on the webinars and on the phone with my avionics shop for like two days, literally the week my bird was going down for install of the TXi. What I quickly realized, even though I could have changed over to the G3X, was that the G3X is limited to what can talk to it. My KFC 150 would not, my remote audio panel would not, and a couple of other things like a stormscope or radar. I priced a GFC 500 install but I had a hard-time replacing a perfectly working autopilot to save about 4AMU on the display with the labor about 14AMU just for KFC extraction and GFC install + equipment. I decided to stick with my TXi install and they even gave me a pretty big credit on the SVT enablement which brought the price much closer to the G3X. I had the panel made independently of the install shop and got to play around with the designs until I got what I wanted. They custom matched powder for my panel and laser eteched the plackards. It is a tight fit behind the panel but I love the design and layout. Super happy. I also went with the GCU 485 Dedicated PDF Controller. I fly a lot of IFR and don't want to be rolling a single knob in IMC in busy airspace on the TXi. So far the controller has proved very quick with changes to direct my KFC 150. The only thing that does not have a function is the IAS - right now it is just a bug on the TXi. I am hoping for a slide-in Aerocruze to be an option if/when my KFC 150 goes awry and should give me the IAS function. Right now, I think the KFC flies as good, if not better with the TXi controlling it. Altitude capture, VS, GPSS, HDG, Approach, ILS all works easier with one interface and no knob turning. A couple of not-seen additions were enabling the Telligence™ Voice Command that was apart of the remote audio panel. I thought this was a gimmic at best, but I use this in every phase of flight: "Tune to Clearance", "Tune to Weather" (ATIS or ASOS), "Tune to Ground", "Tune to Tower", "Tune to nearest Approach". It is very helpful. If there are multiple frequencies, it will show me on the 750 and let me select. The other thing that was enabled was the VNav guideance. This function is awesome. I don't get the benefit of my legacy KFC doing the actuall step-down VNav like the Garmin autopilots, but I hit two buttons to do that: VS-engage + ALT-arm and it will do the same thing. Automatically loading the crossing altitudes for STARs and or approaches is great situational awareness. I did not think this feature (built-into the GTN) was that big of a deal until it was enabled for the G500 displays. I am now having a fire-sale of all my existing equipment. Check that out here.
  2. I would love to as well, I almost went panel-mount but this one (installed) was lower profile than the original.

  4. I have a GTN 750, Flight Stream, and GTX 345. You can get ADS-B Traffic & Weather as well as an AHRS signal from the GTX345 but it will not allow you to flight-plan transfer. For that, you will need the FS210 for the GNS navigators. Having flown behind a lot of GNS 430s and 530s, I would rather have the FS210 to get the flight-plan transfer.
  5. I, too, have the GTN 750 and you can change range and clear data on the WX-500. You might be able to keep your antenna already installed - I was able to.
  6. That is what Valentine did for me. He told me what I could keep (antenna, some wiring) and sent me what I needed with paperwork for install. He also offered me a very fair price for my existing working scope.
  7. Don Valentine @ 972 495-3284 or sales@stormscopes.com is who you need to talk to. I traded in my WX950 (and a little cash) for a serviceable WX500 an was able to keep whatever components crossed over between the two. Love now that my stormscope shows on the MFD and navigator right next to my ADS-B weather.
  8. Dang, sorry. I wasn't ignoring your mention, I have just been out of pocket recently. We are moving planes out of Conway for the impending threat of flood from the river that is supposed to be a record crest early next week.
  9. I just had mine removed, albeit at TSIO-360 (turbo), I will snap a picture of the plate. With my vacuum system removed (I had a standby, too) and all my legacy insturments, my plane shed 45lbs of empty weight and increased my load over 1100 lbs.
  10. No, not sure - I have been flying a M20K (electric trip) for the last two years. I still don't remember the elevator chaning position on trimming on the C and F. We have one at the airport that I fly occasionally and will look next time. I remember at rest, it seems to be elevator high all the time when no forces applied to it.
  11. In the C and F that I have flown, the position of the trim does not change the elevator position - which makes since since the you are triming the entire horizonal and vertical stablizer.
  12. McClard's! Need to make a quick trip down there for lunch one day.
  13. Having the TXi, I don’t need the extra data fields on the 750. Telligence seems like a gimmick until you use it on every phase of flight.
  14. My POH specifies the pitch range, down to 10th of degrees.
  15. @Stephen I might be able to help. On the 25th, I have an AngelFlight trip from MBY. I might could meet you a Jewel and take you up before picking up my AngelFlight passenger.
  16. I will check mine, thanks for the pirep. I for one, love the vernier throttle. I have no trouble making fine engine changes. In fact, I find it easier. The only time I wish I didn’t have it is when flying formation but I have a simple solution for that with Velcro and a key ring.
  17. Yes the other 252 owner is a CFI and a long-time Mooney owner - a C before the 252, but currently flies for a local company. We also have a few other guys that have other jobs (professional pilots) that could work for CFI check-outs in a Mooney. Hopefully soon, I can finish my CFI up and be another resource. My 252 is currently offline for complete panel upgrade but is in the final stretch of completion. As you get closer, let me know how I can help.
  18. I am based just north of you at CXW. I have access to an M20C in Conway if you ever want to come up; I own a K (252). We have 4 (or 5) Mooneys based here. I think there is another guy flying a short body out of SUZ, recently. There is an SR22 based there that I fly some for the owners.
  19. If you have a GTN 750, do the remote audio panel. (GMA 35c) This will give you Bluetooth, Telligence, stereo audio, and a nice clean panel.
  20. Note: I have the 115 Kevlar tank; it was just re-cert. at annual. I think @Cody does, too, in his plane.
  21. I was the one @Cody Stallings has been taking to about my experience with the filling of O2. We fill slow and always from the low bottle first. I would say the whole process takes 30 mins. I share the same O2 setup with a hanger buddy that also owns a 252. I would say the “filling” parts only takes 10 minutes between the two source bottles. I have seen and heard what Cody is experiencing and it seems to slow to me. His bottle takes 45min to fill and has a very high pitch whistle sounds where mine has more of a raspy rattle air sounds when going in. Do all these setups have a restriction valve going in? Its almost like his fill (one way) valve is not opening all the way on filling. As soon as I get my plane back from Avionics we are going to compare and contrast fill-ups to see where the problem exists.
  22. I can order with a discount on Spruce. Better hurry though, I just got an email that says they are going to enforce State Sales Tax moving forward, even though Spurce does not have a retail store in my state. PM me the part numbers and I can show you my discount.
  23. I have a TC that was pulled (working) for a panel upgrade. I actually had it pulled early to replace with a secondary AI (electric) with a Slip/Skid indictor: (both will be for sale soon)
  24. You are correct. I have been flying a turbo for too long, it would be hard for me to come back.
  25. Try you speed test at higher altitudes with less drag. Also, what you are measuring speed with? 4-direction GPS, or TAS computer? Most of our birds achieved top speed at the max altitude. Your bird, in ideal conditions, should be 201mph. Mine: 252mph, but that was at FL280 or near.
