  1. I have a buddy with a C172 with an old Apollo GPS and narco transponder. The GNX175 is perfect for him. He gets ADSB In/Out, IFR WAAS Moving Map GPS, and a flight streaming to his iPad. Also, if he installs a CDI he can do instrument training or even fly LPV IFR. Good move Garmin. Any VFR pilot that does not have ADSB yet but with decent COMMs should seriously look at this.
  2. They said in the webinar the screen detail was different because of new screen tech in the TXi. They said (head of Garmin aftermarket leadership) said the G3X was in fact 5-6 year old technology that they just got certified. The TXi is in fact brighter , better res, and 5 year newer processors vs the G3X. I have been on the phone with my avionics guy several times today and yesterday since the announcement. This single item is preventing me from changing my order (with a week to go) on a TXi install. It is very hard for me to spend big money to rip out and install a new autopilot just to save like $5-$6,000 on the screen. Now if my KFC 150 was not working or been less than stellar since acquisition (knocking wood) I might reconsider. GFC will also talk digitally to the TXi and will always in the future. If they added GAD43e support, my direction would be different. For me, I like the bigger screen because I can split mode an enroute map or chart and get the “dual” 7” screen resolutions on one display with tons of info without having two physical screens and the SVT on the full screen is amazing. I, too, have to have the G5 as backup.
  3. biggest = connectivity.
  4. Confirmed some of my questions, direct from Garmin on the Webinar: The G3X cannot interface with the GAD43e to drive legacy autopilots - basically same as a G5 today. Can provide GPSS supoort but must keep a ATI source for autopilot. It appears it will never be able to do this - "no ATT output for third party autopilots" "Dual 7" screens will still require a G5 for the GFC500" according to Garmin. The G3X EIS does show the %HP which the TXi did not. So depending on the cost to install a GFC500, it might be hard for me to rip out a perfectly good KFC 150 (today). It seems the G3X is perfect if you have the GFC500 but not great if you have any other autopilot. The install cost of the GFC will dicate if I install the G3X.
  5. Yes, sorry, it is 1000 CDT, 11 EDT - sorry. Happening now.
  6. Trek (Garmin) confirmed the G5 is a valid backup on the Beech thread. He has been answering questions over there all day, however, not read that anywhere official nor have I really sifted yet.
  7. They have it installed on a Grumman that they will have at Sun-n-Fun. Yes, it is certified. No idea what hoops they had to go thru but they have been the most successful avionics manufacturer to certify previously experimental products.

  9. My shop is working on a price. I was set to install the G500 TXi using the GAD 43e but after today's announcment, I am re-thinking the install in favor of the G3X + GFC500. If their labor cost is in the neighborhood of $14,000, I doubt I will ripout my perfectly working KFC 150.
  10. @TrekLawler just shared the webinar for tomorrow in case anyone wants to join. They will have a team online to answer as many questions as they can: 3/26/19 at 11:00 CDT: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6738217770284992258
  11. Here is the AML for the G3X Touch for us. Basically every non-G1000 Mooney. M20, M20A, M20B, M20C, M20D, M20E, M20F, M20G, M20J, M20K, M20L, M20M, M20R, M20S
  12. Here is the AML for the G3X Touch (certified): http://static.garmin.com/pumac/sa01899wi_aml.pdf Or, otherwise... just about all the non-G1000 aircraft: M20, M20A, M20B, M20C, M20D, M20E, M20F, M20G, M20J, M20K, M20L, M20M, M20R, M20S
  13. I just talked to my avionics. I can switch but basically have to install a GFC 500 to get all the features - which is not yet approved for the J's and K's. They said expected May 2019 on the J's and K's - kits are avaiable for the M, R, S today. Its not yet clear how much integration it has with the old autopilots. Going with the GFC 500 will give me flight director.
  14. Here is an interesting graphic. So the G3X has Nav/Com built-in. Interested to see what it looks like with a GTN 750. I wonder if the 750 becomes the secondary comms. I have a call into my TXi dealer to find out if I can switch to the G3X and maybe add the GFC 500 for the same cost as the TXi hardware.
  15. Yep, myself included... about to install a TXi. Luckily nothing is intalled yet, in fact, the plane is not yet in avioncs.
  16. Correct. All the Fenix 5x stuff and the aviation. I run with mine every morning. It has the bike and swimming stuff too.
  17. I have the D2 Delta PX. I am a former Fenix owner, so not new to Garmin watches. I love the PX and love that it does the O2. It is not perfect but does a nice job with the O2%. Waiting for a software update to my FS510 to get flight plan transfer to the D2, not that it is really needed but will be nice for tracking.
  18. It doesn’t exists until owners have them installed, or hell, even purchase-able. Same with the fabled Ki300. It has been “coming out” for three years, full of missed dates.
  19. Yes, it seems to be just STC approval and paperwork.
  20. I'll sell you my Mini 4 with box, charger, and cover for $200. PM if interested.
  21. Also, not in high-terriain (AR) but I agree with the above statement. It would be very hard not to get a turbo again unless it is a bush plane or an RV.
  22. Case appears to be the same. Mine delivers (estimated) on March 29th.
  23. New Mini (Cellular) with the Pencil. Ordered. Disappointed we did not get the Pencil 2 but happy with the legacy support finally. Apple said they would give me $135 for my old iPad Mini 4. For me, it was not enough to justify trading it in... maybe $200.
  24. Correct. Where are you gonna base the Ovation / Bravo? i agree with the others. I would not go with a G1000 Mooney unless it was an Acclaim or Ultra (NXi), or you confirm it has WAAS. I might still be hesitant to go with a G1000 with WAAS since it is tied to the type and you cannot ever replace.
  25. Where in Arkansas? I own a 98’ 252 Encore in Conway.
