Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 & No Mooney in Menu
wcb replied to brndiar's topic in General Mooney Talk
And forgot to mention how seamlessly it would with ForeFlight making it really a 6th screen and @MatthiasArnold I downloaded the x-aviation ovation and do like it over the Carendo (even though the autopilot does not pull up on the main screen). -

Everyone that reads this post needs to post pictures of their set up if they don't mind sharing. Reminds me everyone also should add an album in their profile of the plane they currently fly. -

Agreed! You will see that my panel is on an IPAD (that picture has the older IPAD and I usually use the new one) for touch ability and using the Duo app. The Garmin 530 is a touch Raspberry 7 inch Kuman LCD. I find one of the cooler items is the knobster knob to control them both (it feels and acts exactly like a g530 or Avidyne 540 knob). I usually fly the after market Mooney (Cerando M20R Ovation) which is fairly close to my F when I pull the throttle back. -

I will try to get a better one of mine (the screens are 3 32 inch curved) (since then I have fixed my 6 pack with g5's and jpi better, but you get the drift). The really crazy one is a friend of a friends! -

I will echo what I have said and others have said in this post. FS 2020 Graphics are GREAT! But, for flight sim X-Plane 11.5 has it hands down. The way you look around the cockpit etc in FS since it is a single screen set up is clunky at best. Watching the instrument panel and out the window is simply not realistic. With X-Plane I am able to have multiple screens etc. For example I have it set across three screens that basically look from wing to wing. A 4th touch screen just for the 6 pack which yes includes the two G5's and a JPI 930 (just like my bird), parking break, gear switch, trim indicator and flap indicator. Then a 5th screen (small touch screen about the size or a GNS 530) with a Garmin 530 displayed (wish it had an Avidyne 540 and it would be just like my panel). Then a Knobster Knob to control the Garmin G5's and Garmin 530 (and if you want it to control other instruments it is an easy set up). None of this can be done in the FS2020 at this point. Set X-Plane weather to minimums and hand or have the auto pilot fly in IMC for solid practice which you really can not do the same way in FS. But, wait (infomercial here) that's not all......there is more to both systems than just doing some sim type IMC practice and you just have to see for yourself. -
You have me beat here was one I was at 930 kts
-
It play It plays with most more AP's (not that you would be adding an older STEC etc). TruTrack I am not sure. Garmin will be beating Trutrack for the F models to market. On of our MS'rs has his plane at Garmin now getting the certs and I think by now simply waiting on the FAA (I am thinking less than 90 days on the F Model - But, then again who knows).
-
I would at least consider the g5 as an option here to simply to think ahead. In a year or two you may want to add that autopilot. And, G5 will work with the the GFC500 as well as many other AP's. This is coming from someone who did dual G5's almost two years ago and still waiting on the GFC 500

I like the new Acclaims I think just a tiny bit better than the new Ovations.....
-
I bought it as well and it is far less impressive than it seems on the surface. OK graphics are GREAT! But, does not support multiple monitors or so many of the other features that XPlane supports. I run a total of 5 screens (#1 Screen - Front window, 2 -Left side window, 3 -Right side window, 4- Touch screen instrument panel,5 -touch screen Garmin 530[same size and g530]). I also use the Knobster control knob for Garmin and instrument panel. Once MSFT opens up the system to allow unlimited configuration like XPlan it will be awesome but for now XPlane is far better. I actually think XPlane can catch MSFT on the graphics side faster than MSFT can catch XPlane on the config side. As to the storm chasing from above they both can simulate real world weather.

Another Mooney Spacer Gets a LANCAIR IVPT Ride

I am willing to be added to the list! The only problem I see is once you go 300 I would feel really slow going 200. -
4 mile final and the Johnson Bar comes apart
wcb replied to Ned Gravel's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
@Ned Gravel Good job on getting your bird to live to see another day. One more option unless you were low on fuel. I had a breaker pop on my electric gear and instead of manual gear extension I simply exited the patter and flew away from the area to thoughtfully trouble shooting and then solved the issue with more time than worrying about that on final. So, as long as you have fuel you do not have to put her down. A go around could have simply bought a little more time to in reality do the exact same thing you did (jam it on and make it hold). If while away from the airport it was determined that a gear up was the only course it also buys you time to declare emergency and all that entails. Again to clarify I am not being negative on anything you did just a simple debrief for the group. -
@MikeOH @Ragsf15e @LevelWing And I am at 1050 and thinking of adding the light weight starter and alternator to get a little more. At some point the MT prop. If I do those three that will then get me really close to 1100. All that being said I rarely fly with more than one passenger and almost never with three passengers. Why do I need the useful load? (because it is cool to say I have 1100 or one day I might really need that extra 50lbs?) @Schllc "with the dog and minimal bags I can still take on 55 gallons legally in an acclaim with AC, which is easily 2.5-3 hours with reserves. this is about the bathroom time limit for us anyway. " And just think at about 3 hrs in the Acclaim means _____ NM or that it would have taken ______ hours to drive or for the original poster question _____ better or worse than a Piper Lance.

.2 out of the box from GAMI so no need to tweak. Those guys have it down.
-
I did not do the spread test prior to my install of the GAMI's on my 76 F. So I really do not have a good comparison. Here is my result though: all seem to peak within ~0.2 gph. If you are wanting to fly LOP certainly do a spread test and find out.
-
Powerflow from what I read is not enough bang for the buck with almost no speed increase for most (at least what I read) (for me it is a no) Single windshield non 201 style no speed increase (for me it is a no) (for me I am thinking of doing the 201 style), Also, if you just repainted either way will require some touch up. Monroy tanks only if your bladder can handle it or pilot relief tube installed (for me it is a no) EI for me it is when mags need replacing GFC 500 is what I am waiting for but I have no AP if your STEC 40 is fine then for me it would be a no. Have you thought of any flap gap, dorsal fin, wing root or any other aerodynamic mods to get a combined knot or 2 along with cleaning up old antenna etc.
-
Wow! I did not think there was that much difference in the F and the J!
-
If it would have been available a year ago I would have considered it until GFC500 is approved(I think it is less than 3 months away for the F .... at least I hope). I have no wing leveler or any sort of autopilot, it was inop and nobody serviced them. It looks like from some of the verbiage they are working on different models.
-
honestly looks long for the Mooney yoke?
-
I like the flat grey as well.... In my picture above the only reason that one section is going in the wrong direction is that is a plate cover for where we have already placed the rack for the Garmin GFC 500.
-
And when I did mine I made sure to pre-plan for the new Garmin Autopilot to go in right above the audio panel. We put in the rack and simply made a cover for the hole.
-
I agree in keeping it intact. I also question the aspect of moving a system from one plane to the other (one engine to another). In a perfect world I thought of upgrading to a J so I have the aerodynamic speed mods over my F and then taking my RAYJAY and adding it to a J that didn't have it. At the end of the day I did not think it was worth it.
-
I have that J and the Ovation. I use the Ovation and like you do not really like the J. Also the actual instruments make a difference and the use of Air Manager is important and wonder how FS will compare to make my panel as close to my real panel.

most people I think are not doing a actual carbon fiber. I think they are doing more of a vinyl covering. Basically remove all your old black vinyl and replace it with new vinyl of your choosing.
