  1. Does the Lycoming rebuild include the turbo and accessories? It doesn't note it while the TSIO360 listing does.
  2. Try living in Canada. We almost have no choice but to import from the US as 95% of the inventory is in the US! Considering what we have to do to import to Canada, I would think that importing into US would be easier. Canada seems to have additional requirements.
  3. I know those were replaced just before I bought this aircraft. Likely that was the cause too. Thanks for your comments.
  4. Thanks. I will check that. (knock on wood ) the airframe seems pretty good and TKS has been there since 1995. It is messy though!
  5. Hey, I came back today from flying through some icy clouds. TKS did what it was supposed to do. After shutdown I always open the oil breather for 20 minutes or so to let the water vapour vent and noticed quite a bit of TKS fluid around the engine and items on top of the engine. How bad is this for the engine? Is the fluid corrosive? Do I have an issue with my prop slinger causing the engine to inhale so much fluid? Thanks, Iain
  6. Trim wheel on my K is wobbly also and would like to know how this turns out... easy 1/3 to 1/2" movement at the end of the wheel. This is definitely not chain slop; it is in the bushing/bearing/axle tolerances. There was mention of a roll pin in @yetti s link. Maybe that helps iain
  7. My Kx165 did exactly this 3 months ago. I replaced it with the only other operational 14V KX165 in the world at the time... I haven't had mine repaired yet, and don't know the failure mode, but swapping displays from the known good one did nothing. It had done this in the past but always came back to life. I am assuming a capacitor or something finally completely dried out. Do you still get actual radio reception? Mine made 'sounds' but nothing transmit or received. iain
  8. I had a condensation issue with the HSI and/or AI causing similar drop outs. I never did find the actual cause but solved the mositure issue and that ( and other issues ) went away. iain
  9. i had a similar voltage issue with a swinging ammeter and flickering lights. It turned out that the big power conductor from the alternator was broken inside the boot and making intermittent contact. Cut the wire back to clean conductors and crimped a new terminal on; also secured the wiring better to prevent it from happening again. I didn't see the issue until I pulled the boot back as the boot and tension on the wire really held it in place. iain
  10. I recently had to repair my EDM 700 due to the display failing. I really wanted to go to the 830 and get the color display, etc but the cost to relocate it and cut the panel starts to get up there. I had the display repaired, added fuel flow ( and tapped into the existing Shadin ) and the built in USB port added for easy downloading ( plus my serial port was flakey and didn't work ). This about $1000. To upgrade to the 830 would have been closer to $4000 all said and done, due to relocating other instruments to find a home for it. iain.
  11. Thanks. All good. It sounds like if I minimize the higher altitude stuff we should be fine. Now to see how many carriers we can stuff into plane.... iain
  12. Howdy, My wife is involved with several animal rescues and, always wanting to justify having a plane, have offered to transport critters for her when it comes up. I have had to turn down a couple of recent requests as we are in Victoria and the cats were coming from Saskatchewan and needed to cross the Rockies. Most MEAs are around 13k or higher. What is the tolerance for cats and dogs to this kind of altitude for an hour or so? I know that I need the O2 to be legal, but also don't want to cause further distress the these animals. Taking low level VFR corridors is not really an option as these requests never come up during nice days like that. Thoughts? Also, I got my CPL rating completed last week! Woohoo! Working on my multi rating now... iain
  13. My 1981 M20K also has these. I replaced them all with shiny stainless ones last year.
  14. Not for me either. I do appreciate the invite though. Evidently I am defending my wallet from my family at Ikea today... iain
  15. Nice chart. Does your 252 have the SB or MB engine? Are those fuel flows based on LOP or ROP or book 50 degree ROP values? iain
  16. I saw this a couple of days ago. I was at 9000 between the smoke layers.
  17. My Aerostar/B58p/A340/?? saga quest is ongoing I but want to ask a question: Aside from the speediness, was there a particular event/reason/justification that pushed you into a twin? I am personally on the fence as my longest/worst regular route is just under 500nm each way, BUT over the rockies to Edmonton and back. This is bimonthly, plus Calgary/Springbank ( 350nm), bimonthly. All work related. Lots of other 100-250nm work trips also. Intent is for doing this as much of the year as safely possible. They will be 90% just me, perhaps one or two other colleagues. I can tolerate the o2 hose, passengers are not thrilled but 'enjoy' the novelty the first time. My current Mooney can and has done this fine with the Turbo, TKS and all, but an A* could take 20% of the travel time away, pressurized comfort and additional safety but at at least 3 times the fuel burn and operating costs. A bigger Mooney, like an Acclaim has higher cap-ex than the A*, half the fuel burn, similar insurance costs due to hull value and close to A* speeds. Aside from emotional reasons, the logical ( and thrifty) side of me is having trouble rationalizing the need for a twin. Thoughts?
  18. HI Val, As we were PMing, we have some in Canada too, both on the mainland and the island. They were all acceptable for the insurance folks and had some good mooney time amongst them. They help get the basics going and keep you safe, but really can;t speak to the ownership side which is where this community becomes immensely valuable. iain
  19. The one I know of is in Victoria BC Canada.
  20. That is the one! Caught in towering cumulous; significant icing; 3500 fpm descent. The gear came down on it's own due the bend in the wing. It was evident as a wrinkle in the top of the wing. They landed gear up when the gear collapsed.
  21. What is the history, where is the plane? It looks suspiciously like one in my neighbourhood that had a gear up and bent a wing in flight.
  22. Thanks for confirming that Doc, I suspected that. It is like $3 from ACspruce. iain
  23. Hangar elves have been notified.... There is a Cessna part that is very similar also that is stocked at Spruce. At least until I can find some more stuff to by from Lasar to make it worthwhile. Although I might just buy an Aerostar instead....
  24. $48 shipping to Canada for a $68 kit consisting of 4 nylon heat shrinkable bushings....gotta love aviation!
  25. Perfect! Thanks!
