  1. Almost looks like they are supposed to be there! Nice.
  2. Hi Paul, where did you mount yours? I doesn't get kicked off while getting into the pilot seat?
  3. I had the steering horn replaced as the first repair on my M20K. My transition instructor thought i was totally incompetent and/or trying to kill him by veering off the runway all the time. The replacement horn completely fixed it for me. The icy runway I slid across yesterday was another story.
  4. I see now they are offering an autopilot interface for the AI in the coming months. This will be my choice to replace the King AI for my KFC200. I have pre-ordered two of these in anticipation of this feature. No need to wait for BK or Garmin to come up with something.
  5. The under side part you want it the brow and lighting assembly I presume? The other ribs are stiffeners to prevent vibration and oil-canning. If I recall, that is a separate piece glued on. Perhaps try cutting it off the old one and affixed to the new one? I did some repairs on mine and the MEK/dissolved plastic mix works well.
  6. Ahh that makes sense. Yes and at takeoff with the now too high fuel flow it has issue with this. I guess the next question, is how hard is it to return the fuel flow levels to normal!
  7. Hi, I got my plane back from annual and was doing some circuits to see that all was well. On takeoff, fuel flow was a little rich, but the JPI started flashing ' 38 MIN'. I don't see anything in thr manual saying what this means. Anybody know? thanks,
  8. I often do that when in a long vectored ILS approach with jet traffic. By the time you are descending you are still doing 160kts and accelerating. Pop the brakes out over the FAF, gear out 10 seconds later when own to 140 and put them back in. Works great. That is really all I use mine for now too. I experimented with them on final, landing with them, etc to see how the plane reacted also.
  9. I have seen the bolt/pin mod. How does the LASAR kit differ from this?
  10. I am not convinced it is the unit. If I jiggle the connector/wiring in the back it comes to life. It also does read part of the heading range. Looking at how this circuit operates I suspect it may be a loose conductor in the connector in the back. The OBS resolver uses 4 sets of shielded wires. When I get the plane back from annual I will investigate further. I think it has been like this for a long time and since I never use VOR on the nav 1 I have not missed this function.
  11. I can prime mine just fine by using only the boost pump and full rich/cracked throttle. Just as effective, in fact sometimes it fires a bit better. I did this for awhile as I had a wiring issue causing the primer fuse to blow. I am assuming that this will make little difference.
  12. Hi, they didn't reply back to me. Drop them a line and ask, maybe better luck for you. It was at the time of their ownership transition and it may have fallen through the cracks.
  13. I have been told the Mooney hose is $380CDN. There is a cessna 'equal' at 1/3 of that. I have also been told that I don't HAVE to do this as a non-commercial operator in Canada.
  14. HI, I may have to replace my existing KI 525A HSI as the CRS/OBS pointer isn't sending consistent heading data to the GPS. My part number is the most basic one. Most that I have seen available as good, used units have the bootstrap output, 30/400Hz options and some have glideslope damping. Are this compatible with my unit? Also, anybody have experience with the KI 825? It needs a small amount of wiring but is almost a straight swap. thanks,
  15. Blowing snow, power's been out 3 times. 25 gusting 35 at the airport. Plane is till in the shop from annual. Sorting out GTX345 lack of bluetooth function. At least it is warm and dry. Got a copy of 'Flying High Performance Singles by Ecklbar and will start reading that this weekend.
  16. A service bulletin that removes the primer solenoid valve for continental TSIO-360 and 550 engines was issued. Effectively replaces it with a hose and a plug. Any idea what has prompted this? Aside from the solenoid begin crazy expensive, they seemed pretty reliable and effective. And they want us to send this crazy expensive bypass solenoid back to them, while also buying hoses from them. What a deal... CSB19-01.pdf
  17. Did you do this by hand or with some kind of rotary polisher/buffer?
  18. I do believe I have the modworks doors. I think they had been damaged in the past and a return was added on the bottom edge. They actually seem to be quite stiff.
  19. Hi, the doors all have chafe tape and are clearly not making contact at the back. I'll spend some time with them at the shop at the next annual and get them tuned to my liking. Gotta be worth a knot or two!
  20. Howdy, My M20K is in for annual and I went in to see it while it was up on the jacks, primarily to operate the emergency gear release which I had not done before. ( works great by the way) My main gear doors have some gaps in the front when retracted , and larger gaps in the back, trailing edges. I have the lower gear doors with rotated brake calipers for what it is worth. How much impact does this have on airspeed? I should have taken pictures but the gaps are not huge, and 1/8 or so in the front, but are twice that in the back.
  21. AFAIK...Might be about right. The control panel is slightly different; second pump; second windshield pump; some extra plumbing and solenoids for it all; plus heated stall vane and associated controls and wiring. The reservoir volume is the same, and the specs and coverage off the weeping panels are also the same.
  22. This is what i had been looking at and where the consideration to Rocket speeds/performance comes in. That is interesting comparing the fuel flows and something I had been looking at also. Assuming similar fuel flows and rich of peak ops, the Acclaim is faster than my 252 according to the book. Does the long body enhance the aerodynamics and therefore speed? It seems that most of the aero improvements are in the cowl area as the rest is virtually identical to J and K models, even the small inner gear doors went away, as did the flap hinge cowls.
  23. I realize that there is a lot more HP in the engine, but altitude aside are there that many improvements in the aerodynamics and drag reduction of the latest models to get the speed increases? Or is it really just the brute force HP? Looking at the Rocket models, what do they cruise at at various altitudes? That is a good example of a stock m20K vs the same airframe with a bunch more HP.
  24. no...same country though, just the opposite side. Evidently there were quite a few birds happily spinning on that ice disk!
  25. I was distracted with thoughts of airplane maintenance at the time but should have looked it up.
