  1. Yes. Headache producing tubes of pain and agony. Here is a picture (not mine) on the flight deck of a C-130. Somewhere, I have pictures taken through the NVGs while flying Herks all over IRAQ.
  2. try @Sabremech If memory serves correct he makes them.
  3. When I was younger I loved NVG operations, I am not as excited about it anymore. I had my fill of landing blacked out on "runways". NVGs are great for being able to clear at night and would defiantly come in handy if one happened to need to land off airport at night.
  4. All the more reason to fly behind a G100 w/ synthetic vision...interesting that he gets a lot of kudos from followers, so positive feedback for stupid decision making. I've had a couple of similar experiences. Just recently flying the LPV into my home field at night through the weather, I broke out at about 500 AGL only to find out the lights had not turned on even though I had keyed the mic. The other time we were training on NVGs (not in a Mooney) and did a touch and go or two before we realized the airfield lights were not on. It was a full moon night and under the NVGs the runway was easily seen, still not strictly legal though.
  5. I end up at TYS quite a bit, I am just lucky that when I do it is in the company kerosene burner with the Aircard to purchase the fuel. My home field is still $3.89 for 100LL, but I get $.25 discount for basing there.
  6. The tie down rings in mine are not original, it appears that at some point someone stripped the threads and then oversized the holes. This year at annual I have having them helicoiled so I can install the Lasar tie down/jack points.
  7. That is actually the panhandle of Florida. The gulf coast of Texas is a different beast. Port Aransas was one of our favorite places when we lived in the Corpus Christy area. The beaches won't be crowded this time of year.
  8. Now that I can whole heartily agree with.
  9. I may be dating myself but....isn't that Airwolf?
  10. That is exactly what I did with my M20F w/ Century 41 A/P
  11. Apparently reading comprehension is not your strong suite. Read my post again. Actually, I will just post it again for you "In my 18+ years in the military I have been part of multiple shutdowns including at least 3 while I was deployed in combat." That's right, deployed in combat with no paycheck! I had a family at home, yet no paycheck and bills to pay. Still went out and did my job everyday. I have been there. I'm not worried about the NWS not being paid as much as Homeland Security, Customs/Border Patrol, and the Coast Guard. Those folks are putting their lives on the line with no paycheck.
  12. But, not really since once the shutdown is over they will get all back pay. In my 18+ years in the military I have been part of multiple shutdowns including at least 3 while I was deployed in combat. So I am sorry, but I do not feel bad for a government employee that sits in an office during a shutdown.
  13. When was the last time you flew without a GPS signal? So worst case, you have to hand fly the approach...
  14. Its on the approach plate.
  15. Ha, yeah you are right. I snapped that photo about 3 years ago during a fly-in in Brewton, AL, it belonged to the maintenance facility there. I wish I flew enough to see any significant recoup in oil compared to the money I would spend in PVC to build one.
  16. Here is the previous thread where David showed off his manufacturing skills.
  17. In the 3 different platforms I have flown with LPV (Beech 400, PC-12 and my Mooney) you continue to be provided guidance, lateral and vertical, inside/below DA. It just does not automatically sequence to the missed approach unless you un-suspend. At airfields without VASI or PAPI, I continue to cross check the GP to prevent a duck under landing.
  18. Don, Sounds like you need to make one of these...
  19. Yep, like someone holding short and not knowing the difference between the hold short and instrument hold lines, or on days when the weather is above 800/2 and the ILS critical area is not protected.
  20. Oh no, Cody has started talking in the 3rd person...
  21. Yet, the military went back and designed a laser JDAM...Why? Because while GPS only is good for specific targets, laser guidance has its advantages as well. Although, this has nothing to do with LPV vs ILS. LPV approaches are a WAAS/GPS based approach, and they're very similar to the ILS. But there is a difference. Even though LPV approaches have vertical guidance, they're not considered precision approaches. Instead, they're an approach with vertical guidance (APV). So what's the difference? APV approaches don't meet the ICAO and FAA precision approach definitions, which apply mostly to localizer and glideslope transmitters. The precision approach definition also carries a lot of documentation, definition, and cost with it, so the FAA and ICAO adopted the APV definition, so they could build new approaches and not be burdened with the cost and paperwork.
  22. Yep, that sounds like the correct one.
  23. @AGL Aviation has a prop shop they use in the area that I would assume can do the ECI.
  24. $0 in Florida and now Mississippi.
  25. I can't comment on the rest...however this one is about a 15 minute job. Order your parts from @OSUAV8TER
