  1. Jeez Jim. Buy a fuel flow monitor. Used they just aren’t that expensive. Otherwise you are just like the F Thread guys that refuse to give fuel flow when talking (I won’t say bragging) about how fast their planes are. I will comment that Lloyd did the same thing when discussing his Mooney...Then he is all about the speed difference at different fuel flows in the RV. Ground speed is massively impacted by wind and fuel flow. NOT MODS. You are talking about a massive difference in speed if you flow 11.5GPH vs. 10. That said you are likely talking about a difference of 10 minutes an hour for arrival time. Just not a big deal. Guys that heavily mod Mooney’s are crazy, but hey it is their money. David’s cowl doesn’t seem to make that much more speed so it comes down to aesthetics...Worth $3500+ for a modern look? Is to some. (But NOT if my oil and cylinder temps go up a lot) To me I just burn an extra gallon an hour or $5 bucks if I want to “go fast”. Usually 130-160 knots ground speed up at 5500-7500’ depending on winds is what I see. I am good with that. I wish people would report ground speed vs. instruments because I don’t trust those numbers either.
  2. I will take a photo of the block/attach point when I “go in” to try and locate the missing key that disappeared in the panel. Sorry I am not of more help on vintage of donor yokes...It can be done in vintage models.
  3. Interesting response. What examples of “preemptive killing” are you referring to? This incident did NOT result in property damage or loss of life beyond the aircraft and individual. If he had flown the plane into a large gathering would that impact your comment? My question is: “What security protocol breaches resulted in the theft and launch of the aircraft from a commercial airport”? Maybe these should be “fixed” to minimize likelihood of a recurrence.
  4. No clue. A&P did swap over a decade ago...No issues. I have Brittain electric PC disconnect on pilot (left) yoke (as purchased) and map lights.
  5. Huh, that’s funny because they have been in my plane working great for about 15 years...
  6. Got my yokes and shafts as well as a set of seats with headrestsfor <300 off EBAY. An avionics salvage operation was parting out a 201 and “Nobody” bid. Boom! Winning.
  7. My comment was as relevant now as it was then...
  8. More to do with “creativity”...
  9. How much higher MP can you get at that altitude? Not turbocharged, right?
  10. I would like to “find” $30 grand. I would buy a ‘12 Boss 302 in White and just listen to it howl through three gears. I love that iteration of the Pony car. Yours looks close colorwise. Nice ride.
  11. I had a 1990 5 speed in Aztec Red Two seater. You are a good dad.
  12. Guy from Chicago named Joel likes Porsches and riding fast trains with a lady.... Congrats!
  13. Especially hard on Kelly (my wife). She started to really “mother” me and our dogs...a whole heap a lovin’. It is definitely a transition, but really allows a couple to re-ignite a bond and passion of a relationship. Enjoy the ride! Trust me there is light out there. They are a plane flight away and they appreciate you and “get you” a lot more with absence.
  14. Hoping for a return to normalcy soon.
  15. Sky is also amazing in Northern Wisconsin at my in laws cottages. Favorite activity is star gazing (or is that Scotch and Cigar while star gazing). All three I guess. Bonus points if a plane flys final on 32 for a night landing over cottages!
  16. My A & P has a bunch of crop dusters every year. He just commented that he has a bunch of July annuals and wished more had February like ours. I don’t understand why anyone would have their annual in prime flying season? I guess ‘cause it is prime buying season too? : ) Crop dusters are so fun to watch. I always pull over and spend a phone call or two (when on the road) watching them do their thing. Massive planes. Pilots appear very skilled.
  17. Took me over a year to obtain my PPL. I had two young kids and was on a budget. I would ask how much $ is available this month...It will take more time and $ this way as likely will lose your instructor and have to prove yourself again, but don’t WAIT until you have all the money saved...You will never get started.
  18. Train in a Cherokee 180 NOT a Cessna. Low wing and flying/landing characteristics of a low wing Piper much more similar to a Mooney. Your right seat time will be valuable. Good luck in the pursuit of your PP!
  19. I stopped watching national news for a lot of reasons. A big factor was hearing about fires or mudslides in California. I kept waiting for a news report where anchor said: “This just in, there are no negative climate events occurring on the West coast”. That report never came... Endeavor to persevere... Meanwhile local news last night said: “An acre of corn releases up to 1000 gallons of water a day”. It is a tad humid in Iowa.... No shit.
  20. What fuel flow? Just curious, no dark intent...
  21. I have a complete set of plane keys in car with hanger key as well as a complete set on the flight bag. Also a complete set at home in the nightstand. Glad to not be stranded at the fuel pumps on other side of CID after a two-hour flight. Did it to be “safe” (out of the ignition), but it escalated quickly...Didn’t know that vortex/rathole key collector was there...sigh, I do NOW.
