I didn't realize it has its own AHRS, that is a big deal. The other feature of the 760 that I have never before seen in a handheld GPS is the ability to drive a GFC500 autopilot. Their press materials say this is "VFR Only," but still - it's an interesting differentiator.

Right, it needs to be in a fixed position. Airgizmos doesn't have a 760 dock out yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. A solid RAM mount or similar would probably work equally well, so long as you aren't removing the 760 and dropping it in your lap.

The Aera 760 with its integrated AHRS may be the only single-box handheld that offers both navigation and attitude. Something like the Dynon D3 gives you attitude but no nav, and other handhelds offer nav with no attitude. If mounted in an Airgizmos dock or whatever, the Aera 760 has an awful lot of backup potential in a single battery-powered unit.

I bought one of these a while back, I think based on a recommendation from one of your earlier posts. For some reason, in my plane the cig lighter is really shallow, and this Aukey adapter still sticks out about a quarter-inch. I've tried every which way to make it sit flush, but it just isn't deep enough. So it keeps catching my eye on a scan. I've resorted to leaving it in my flight bag unless it's in use. If there's a trick to making it flush, I'd love any advice. Seems hard to imagine that Mooney sourced a bunch of different cig lighter parts, but not *that* hard to imagine -

Minor side question... Has anyone ever seen a premium drop with recent Wings credits? I've seen many references to this (I think Avemco in particular says they'll do something for Wings participants). But I've never even seen a spot in a renewal form for Wings credit, and I'm not sure if it's a real thing.

This is way outside my area of expertise, but they do apparently have "instant" (5min ish) tests for practitioner use somewhere in the approval pipeline. Unfortunately you need to buy the Garmin writer. I was in the same boat, but I figured going from $450/year to $299/year meant that I paid for the new writer in the first year. You *can* continue using the Jeppesen cards.

Yeah, Aeroshell makes a 100 for summer and an 80 for winter. There is some logic (Mike Busch? Others?) that says straight weight is better at corrosion protection because it's far more viscous when cold and therefore stays on internal engine parts longer before sliding down into the pan. Interesting, thanks. I switched from Aeroshell "Plus" straight weight to Aeroshell 15w50 and I have had worse oil consumption. I was strongly considering going back to the straight weight, but the Victory multi might be a better step.

The Bose A20 claims to be able to connect to two Bluetooth sources at once. https://www.bose.com/en_us/support/article/pairing-a-bluetooth-enabled-device-bluetooth-models-only-a20.html They do say that you can only listen to one audio source at a time, but I assume that's what you would want.

I have one in my basement full of misfit toys. If the other options above don't work out, please feel free to PM me. I have no idea what a KX-165 is worth. I took a quick look on eBay and they're all over the place. This was a pull from my panel a few years ago. Not tagged, and I have no way to test it, but it was working fine when removed.

Yep, there are a lot of aviation apps for Android, and the feature sets vary widely. I didn't want to get into a debate with him - I actually really appreciated him taking to time to write a candid reaponse, and I think that what he said is certainly reasonable. (Even though I'm a CB and I feel like GP should cost less if it takes more than two years to get feature parity with the iOS version.) I'm a huge fan of Avare - I think it's great - but it definitely has less functionality than GP. And WingX should always be in the conversation if you're taking about Android EFBs, but the WingX features also trail their iOS features by a fair amount. For my hardware (GTX345), there are only two EFB apps that run on Android, and both are now Garmin products: GP and FltPlan Go. Everything else requires me to lose ADS-B support or buy a portable ADS-B receiver just for the tablet display. Ugh.

For what it's worth, here is the response I got from Garmin on the iOS vs Android topic: "As one of the only providers of an electronic flight bag to the Android community we are always trying to make it more comparable to iOS. The challenge comes in making a program work across all the different manufacturers with the use of different hardware. Since iOS has a fairly standard build across all units there is a lot more inherent consistency with the way we can program. If these features are critical to you I would recommend the purchase of an iPad in order to get all these features with the use of Garmin Pilot 10 in iOS. The Android version on your existing devices could provide for a useful backup and situational awareness."

Saw this announcement from Gamin. The most interesting thing to me was the apparent ability to drive a GFC500 from the Aera. Not a common feature for a portable GPS in a certified aircraft.

Yep. I'm not sure how many aircraft he has all together, but just the three I know about are pretty different from each other. He needs ten N numbers, all ending in Hotel Foxtrot.

I don't know much about HF's flying habits, so I have no idea whether this has any relevance to him... But as someone who does this for fun (with a non-flying day job), I find it hard to maintain real proficiency in multiple types. I fly two aircraft with some regularity, but I'm normally far more proficient in one than the other. And the difference between a Mooney and a Piper isn't night and day. If the three planes I had to choose from were a Beaver, a Husky, and a helicopter, I think I'd be way behind each of them on every flight.
