I may regret being rude here , but, at that quote you were really 7 months since beginning your pre buy... And now as I write this, it has been 10 months. As to getting it done in a few days,,, those annuals happen fast because the owners Ride the A$$ of their mechanic and kick them in the balls anytime they slow down the work. That is something that you have Never even come close to doing!!! In fact,, your Good New mechanic has screwed you more than your Bad Old mechanic,, and you have let it happen, over and over again and again... Really it is Your fault! I am sorry I sound so mean,, but,, really you are not pushing your mechanic to do his job, and he wont do work for you, unless you are there to kick him in the balls, And you are going to take your kicking foot, and your disposable income, and Vacation in Alaska for Two Weeks???!!! Your mechanic is not going to work on your plane while you are gone,, he has proved that, over and over!! Just for fun please click and read this blog about a guy that bought a Charokee that hadnt been touched for 10 years! 71/2 months after the sale she was ifr current and annualed, going for prove out flights.. http://www.thisoldcherokee.com/search?updated-max=2015-04-23T16:51:00-07:00&max-results=7&start=70&by-date=false -

You know I have followed your posts since you started searching for a plane, this plane. Every month I go back and read that thread and this thread, so I know Everything! I keep all the comings, goings, ups and downs, steps forward and the steps back, fresh in my mind. Remember I thought about buying 44U for myself, so you should know I care about how this is turning out. -
What if I take you to a diner and buy a lunch for to enjoy,, gratis...

Any words of wisdom for a new 1964 M20E owner?
mpg replied to MTNM20E's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Thanks for that info.. I was looking for the FAA rules, and now I see them. I was not negating best practices... Although I was never PIC of a complex,, I did get to ride in some with my uncle. Maybe if im lucky, in the future, I will need the endorsement. -

There's a 10 hour requirement for a complex endorsement? Really? Never heard of it. Because my licence was issued prior to 97, I never got one. I wont debate all of the points in this thread, it is all interesting, good stuff, but,,, I got my PPL in 1978,,, does your post mean that I am NOT required to get a complex endorsement in order to fly a Mooney? -
not 5 inches,,, 5 feet!!!

Many years ago their was an aviation article about a heavy cargo from the U.S. to Seiko in Japan. I think it was in a Antanof ??? . It was a 24ft by 12ft by 5ft thick Granite precision surface table,, cant remember the weight but it was a lot, seem to remember it was a record for a heavy lift. it was not scared to fly...
-
Well,, rainman; I think I have learned a lot from this thread,, spent lots of time studying the route, the check points and my charts.. I would say that filing and flying toward BWS was your downfall. The advice from Kortopatos to circle for mountain clearing altitude then heading direct to your 1st fix at PIO staying northerly of the restricted space till well on your way would have worked out in your favor. But you did eventually get home OK,,, near as I can tell,,, so thats good. I do gotta ask,,, Going to Alamagordo,, did you fly VFR or file and fly IFR? What route did you make then? Would a simple reversal of that route have gotten you home just as well?
-
Well,,,, you are right again!!! As I made my last post I knew I was going to sound like an ass, and I was going to be insulting! You did challenge my accuracy, but you didnt ask how I got my numbers, mostly you said I must not be right because you didnt give enough info to come to my conclusions. Oh well,,, now you have done what would have been easy for you to do in the first place. Your very own math! Im glad you did,, now you know some more about your true costs for a normal year,, good.. I wont challenge your accuracy, or ask for more info, so I can find out why I was wrong,,, by 10 dollars!!! BTW,, Im 63, so far,,, Im too old to grow up now.. and Im too old to die young Oh yeh,, BTW, I also enjoyed your adventure, flying cross country, showing us pics,, providing a safe place to live vicariously through you! thanx
-
Well,,, you are right again,, Yeah!!! I was only able to make WAG's. Sooo, I think you should go upstairs, and ask your Mom/CPA for a spread sheet,, then you can break out all the correct costs of ownership/flying and do all of the math your own damn self, as you should have done in the first place instead of going to a forum and asking for us to do it for you, with incomplete info! Please report back with the correct info/costs... And grow up!!!
-
Yes I could just dig up my yard and give the money for a c, e, f,,, but because I do analyze the costs,,, I Know that I would Not be able to use it as I should. My budget just wont stretch that big, I am retired,, I am Poor... The plane would just end up rotting on the ramp, till I sold it for a big loss!
-
ignorance is Not BEST,,, it is BLISS!! I see a lot of folks afraid to know the truth about the cost of their flying,, are just like the guys afraid to reweigh their plane.
-
Sigh,,,,, your post told me a lot about your costs,,, I dont need to break out a spread sheet in order to multiply, divide, add and subtract some numbers that were the point of your request.. Oh well...
-
I do believe this happened to me before,,, My dyslexic finger hit the, show me the thread button, instead of the show me the 1st unread post button. And although it sounds like I complained,, I have Enjoyed reading about all the gooder flight reports in the thread..
-
Like you said,, you are flying a lot now so you can get Paid to fly! The sooner the better! It is good. I am only looking at your thread as an arithmetic problem/exercise,,, I like those, especially for airplanes. Like I said your per hour cost would be 144$ if you flew 100 hours per year. If you fly your Mooney only 24.375 hr per yr you would spend the same 12000$ it would cost to rent for 100hrs! but,, your cost per hr would be 492$ per hr!!! Flying 127 hrs per yr will cost 15284$, but then you will be spending the same 120$ per hr of renting. I guess this number is an important cutoff point! Less than 127 hrs per yr is cheaper to rent,,, more than 127 per yr is cheaper to own,,, Especially if your are Owning,,, a Mooney!!! You Did save 18700$ last year building time as fast as you can ,, toward the day you get paid for flying.
-
Wow!!! I hate it when an OLD thread pops up as a new one,,,,, soooo I read again anyway,, Oh well....
-
Yes I have added it up and divided it out, just like your mom did. I have done it carefully for a number of planes I thought might try to own and fly. And I see the same pattern for you as I did for me. You are flying about 3 times more than the normal high average and getting it down to 65$ an hour,,, good! Based on your fuel cost I see that if you only flew 100 hrs a year, you would spend way less, but! your per hr cost would shyrocket to about 144$ an hr.!!!! If you flew 1000 hr per year your per hour cost would droop to about 43$ an hour. The more you fly, the more you spend, but the cost per hour is less! Unless,,, you just rent!! Then their is an hour cutoff in costing it out..
-
lots a folks have writ lots of dumb stuff about what they think makes a mooney not fall from the shy,, but most of what they wrote is junk. I try really hard to ignore the stupid err, dumb err, a unknowledgeable posters ravings. I agree with your simple straight forward thoughtful and Correct explanation!!
-
Wowwie!! Is your E6B "calculator" something electronic?? Or is it like mine,,, a manual slide rule, wiz wheel!

i had confusion about the bad pics here. i thought xxx.XX would mean 360ch radios... really old, not usable, maybe not legal! but that Tarra,,, has xxx.XX but says 720?....
-
thanks to all. a better pic,, i woudnt have needed to ask. it is a 1957 m20 for 8000$ on barnstormers. the audio panal and xponder could stay,, and a kx155 and indicator added. 1400 mi drive to see it,,, 1000mi flight back, aint gonna do it. if it was here at pwt,, i would buy it now!
