CNC'ed Johnson Bar Lock Blocks (2nd run)
Raptor05121 replied to Raptor05121's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Already 24 people interested! I hope we can make it at least 30 and get the costs lower. This should be a good win for vintage owners everywhere to keep them airworthy and keep the bulletproof legacy intact. Thanks again, David. -
CNC'ed Johnson Bar Lock Blocks (2nd run)
Raptor05121 replied to Raptor05121's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Last run, which had less people than our current list, was IIRC $300/up and $350/down. As David said, we're waiting on estimate. Let me know if you want to be added. With a list this large, I suspect it would be cheaper to get it now versus a smaller, 3rd run later on. Let me know if you want to be added to the list! -
David S (@Sabremech) is trying to get a 2nd batch of the infamous CNC'ed Johnson Bar up/downlock blocks run again for us. The more orders, the better. If you want one or a set, please post your intentions below (IE 1x downlock only/set of 1x down and 1x uplock). I will be working on a payment system and once we have that squared away, I will be gathering contact and shipment information from everyone. Lead time is 6 weeks from the time we place the order. 30 or more Uplock - $233.37 each ----->40 or more Uplock- $205.36 each<------ 30 or more Downlock- $265.86 each ---->40 or more Downlock- $223.90 each<--------- Shipping for a set is estimated at $25. That covers boxing and shipping costs. MooneySpace: 1.) Welcome to the forum. Make an intro post and get some pics up!

Wow. That timing, with COVID. I had heard some stories but reading it in detail is crazy. I really hope this vaccine works as good as anticipated. I think pax numbers this week are almost back to 50% of last year, I think the industry is slowing reeling back. Are you able to say which airline hired you, and if you have any recourse for an easy return? Wishing you and your family all the best. Looking forward to the next post.

I have moveable flaps and with my venerable 60s single-CHT gauge, anything less than open brings my CHTs up. I've never needed to touch my cowl flap control. I'd sooner make it fixed so its one less thing to disconnect when I have to remove the lower cowling.

Are you going to Sun 'n Fun? Part deux
Raptor05121 replied to 1964-M20E's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Theres a good turnout for the younger crowd, and PLENTY of shenanigans at the beer tent once the sun goes down. -
What a story! It still blows my mind that a little ordeal, maybe seconds in duration, can down a plane for over a year. Congrats on all the ratings and taking care of your family at the same time. I'm looking forward to your next post.

Any chance of icing at 15,000 feet?

Scott, do you have any videos explaining how to read a Skew-T? -
Hazardous Attitude, What's Your Vice? (Poll)
Raptor05121 replied to 201er's topic in General Mooney Talk
By far my biggest vice is "it wont happen to me". I look back at myself with 250....500...750 hours and realized some of the stuff I used to do that was plain stupid and took me another 750 hours of experience to realize it. And I'm not talking about plainly stupid stuff like buzzing a house at 50AGL or loading 6 friends into a 4-seater- just regular day-to-day stuff that you don't realize. I've got a good story of how I don't blast off on a spontaneous night flight anymore and got a rude wake-up call, but that's something I'll only tell in-person over a cold one. Tomorrow I'm headed to Flight Safety in Wichita for 8 days on a simulator to learn the C208 and the amount of knowledge I've picked up over the past week of indoc alone is perplexing that little Private Pilot me didn't even know existed. -
Lending your plane for propeller testing
Raptor05121 replied to Boilermonkey's topic in General Mooney Talk
Well legally they can't push it beyond the design limits, of which you and I abide by every single day. I would totally jump on the opportunity for a new prop -
Looking for Magneto shop in Southeast U.S.
Raptor05121 replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in General Mooney Talk
Don is local to me at Cannon Creek and rebuilt my Bendix's in an afternoon. EXTREMELY competitive pricing. IIRC I paid $450 for him to IRAN both with new points, contacts, wipers, etc, etc, etc. Of course he was a mile away so no shipping.... I highly suggest him. He also builds and overhauls engines and has been a staple in North/Central Florida for quite a while. -
Wing mounted landing and taxi light installation
Raptor05121 replied to PT20J's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
There is a guy around that cut and installed landing/taxi lights in both wings on his M20C. I recall seeing it on here or the 'Mooney Pilots' Facebook page a few years back. -
This post aged quite nicely. Foreflight calls out 500'AGL to me. I may be late to the party (just got FF) but I use that as my final GUMPS check

Technology Today vs the 1960 Mooney Design
Raptor05121 replied to cliffy's topic in General Mooney Talk
Notice I said, show me a gasoline twin that is comparible to this diesel twin. No where did I say single. Regardless of power/weight, it gives more performance. IDGAF if it does 50hp and weighs 1,000lbs and uses unicorn pee as fuel, it its twice as economical as most of the twin fleet out today -

Continental IO-550L: 438lbs Continental TIO-550G: 554lbs Austro AE330: 410lbs You also say low on power... The DA-62 can carry 7 people, or 1,600lbs useful load at 175kts on 12gph total using "only" 180hp a side. Name any gasoline twin that can do that.
