  1. According to my previous conversations with someone in Morristown, the crank flange is magnafluxed and if runout is within tolerance, a prop is mounted and declared as airworthy. Of course, it's impossible to know if runout was out of spec or not after the plane crashes.
  2. Thanks for the helpful advice. it was previously attached to the aft of the seat bottom. I removed it from there because it robbed back seat pax space. Also, the mount was useless because there was no real quick cam release. I had to actually use vice grips to get it off the mount. I'm going to look at mounting options, but due to its size, I doubt it will fit on the seat without being in the way of the seat adjustment bar. Front of, or under, pilot seat was my initial thought. I'm thinking about under the panel next to the wheel well now just so quick reach might be easier.
  3. Glad you're shaking the nerves out. Hope your next purchase is clean and unmolested! If you're patient, you should be fine finding a good bird.
  4. Dang, I didn't know gixxer got his plane from Morristown. I visited there several times in the past to look and saw (and was told) some really shady stuff. I'm so glad I followed my instincts back then.
  5. After going back to my plane to double check which kind of extinguisher I have, I am pleased to realize that the extinguisher I already have in the plane is in fact halon. I had bought a BC dry chemical extinguisher before I owned this mooney and had it sitting on my desk because I knew there was one already in the plane. I just assumed it was the same kind of extinguisher. Now I just need to determine a better method for stowing it. Thanks everyone one for helping me know the difference!
  6. I thought it is the same thing, but just marketed to race cars rather than aviation.. http://www.h3rperformance.com/support_faq.htm
  7. The voltage adjustment is on the regulator. someone has to adjust it with the cowl off while someone is in the plane running it. As I recall, mine was set to 13.8v and I can't remember if that is at idle or higher rpm... I used a breaker that can be pulled to turn it off rather than a proper switch.
  8. Oh, I didn't realize that was him. Glad everyone is unharmed.
  9. Yea, I think so. Hopefully just lapping the seat and honing the guide will kee that valve serviceable. If it were me, I would go ahead and do it before flying again, the scope it again after 25 hours when changing oil.
  10. Get a bulb that will work with your existing rheostat. Otherwise, you will need to also get a pwm in order to dim.
  11. The chunks on the valve look like lead deposits to me. Do you do a lot of short, lower power local flying? You might try running Alcor TCP with your fuel and running harder/hotter... you may be able to just lap that valve seat, but would go ahead and ream the guide while you're in there, since the valve seems to be coked.
  12. I have a b/c extinguisher, but it's not H3R... I'm thinking about getting halon so as to not destroy everything else if I ever had to use it. After reading more about the aerosol extinguishers, it seems they are really crappy and potentially make things worse. I found a 1lb H3R for $53. I may do that just for the payload difference of 6 lbs!
  13. I have the proper extinguisher in my plane, but it's bulky, heavy, and just always in the way. Not to mention the aluminum handle is always scraping people or things. Also, if I needed to spray under the panel, I doubt I could aim it very well.. I was walking through Walmart and saw this extinguisher with a form factor similar to a spray paint can. Slightly larger. Definitely lighter than my current extinguisher and easier to stow and handle. It says it's good for electrical and grease fires. (Perhaps oil fires?) Looks like it would be easier to aim in tight spaces. What do you guys think?
  14. If you could get it that cheap and no airframe corrosion, then you could look at it as a business venture ..... but after you get it flying, you won't want to sell it!
  15. I always thought this as well and so, I always loaded with a little weight aft accordingly. I noticed that the elevator has slight down deflection when trimmed for cruise with mid cg range loading. So, today, I flew solo and noticed the same thing. Empty plane, solo, cruise trim has down deflection. This doesn't seem right. What about everyone else?
  16. My 67 F gets 147ktas with full fuel, family and luggage aboard. The only mods I have is the brake reversal and a top prop. Oh, and I remove tie down rings. I've wondered if there is some error on my ASI though.
  17. Yea, that would suck so bad to be years into building a sweet RV and have it wiped out just before completion. Years of hard work and dedication
  18. I'm a CB, but being a CB when buying usb cords will bite you. You must go ahead and spend a little more and get short cords with larger gauge power wires. (22awg vs 28awg). Otherwise, you may not get a high enough voltage delivered to your stratux if you have multiple accessories. And you'll probably need ferrite chokes to avoid radio interference when trying to charge iPad and power stratux at the same time.
  19. I pulled the trigger on a dual G5 and gtn install that will commence around end of November. Going ahead and cutting a new panel at the same time for flush mount g5s Around that time, I'll be selling the below items. Mac1700vtx. (K175b with glide slope) kx170b ki-208 kn64 King 21 marker beacon pma1000ii remote electric magnetic compass vacuum AI vacuum DG with heading bug. (Works with Britain accuflite) Alcor egt gauge
  20. I just got on David's schedule for a GTN/dual G5s/PMA8000 installation with a new panel cut... It won't happen until December, but I appreciated the fact that David has been straight forward no BS type guy during the quotation and scheduling stages.
  21. Are there any updates ? Is Matt's F done? numbers?
  22. I was the 5th plane off the ground only 10 miles from the Charlie airspace. Just after entering the Charlie, atc started telling everyone else not to enter the airspace. I must have heard 20 requests for Vfr FF within just a couple minutes. We were lucky to be one of the first to depart. We cranked up just a couple minutes after the sun started coming back out.
  23. New age of hyper sensitive over nurtured populace. Seems like few have any grit these days
  24. Perfectly clear in east TN yesterday. We made the long cc flight of 24nm down the valley to MNV. The field was full of planes and the folks there running the field were awesome. They had a gospel bluegrass band string up in the hangar and had plenty of drinks and food to go around. It was great!
  25. Yea, from my perspective, we've got problems with competitiveness and corporate security from all sides, but china and s. Korea are the two biggest trade problems. When I lived and worked in Canada, we were having the exact same corporate IP issues with s Korea and china. So, I think that whatever goes into nafta should combat our common issues in ASEAN.
