Mate n Lok come in all sorts of variations. Yes, some are friction lock, but some have detent that lock quite firmly. I think the pins are rated for about 13A, and they get used all the time in airplanes for landing lights, strobes, FF transducers etc. They are lightweight and easier to secure to a wiring harness than CPC. I have gold plated pins and would use these for servos. I have the luxury of all sorts of crimpers, so can do Mate n Lok, CPC, AMP, Microfit etc. An all sizes of high quality shrink tubing, Aerodon

Molex (Mate 'n Lock) are not bad, especially if you find gold plated pins, have the correct crimper and make sure you get the 'locking' shells. Mooney 'overused' CPC connectors, but they are nice too, with high quality pins and sockets. Trick is whatever you use, get the proper crimpers and pins. Aerodon

Have a look at this recent thread with pictures. Loosening the 2 screws from the front should release a 'clamp' and then the unit will slide forward. Then there are 4 crews holding the connectors in place. That plastic surround also comes out.

plastic crush washers on spinner?
Aerodon replied to eman1200's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Macfarlane supplies the at about $5 each: https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/products/M1020-10/?q=spinner washers&search_type=product&index=6&page=1 -
I don't think JPI sell these anymore, I have a nice one with the power cable - plug into the cigar lighter and the data port of your EDM700 or 800 and download the data for analysis. If you have lost your serial cable, $129 plus shipping. Aerodon

KFC200 - KC290 mode controller holes
Aerodon replied to milotron's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
they are the mounting screws that hold a U-shaped bracket at the back that clamps the KC290 to the panel. Aerodon -
Pins are also available on eBay. But be careful, there are different sizes (height of pin), I guess for slightly different bach shells or board thickness? Spend the extra $$ and buy from the guys you have them still packed in the BK packets. Aerodon

Wire routing and securing wire inside the wing
Aerodon replied to Mooney-Shiner's topic in General Mooney Talk
I have a couple of spare clips for you, I could not find a Mfg. name or part number. I also have these click bonds, epoxy to the face of the rib and position the cable clamp away from the edge of the big hole in the rib. Aerodon -
I checked the manuals - the GFC must be connected to a son alert if it is not connected to an unswitched input on the audio panel. Then the GTN750 allows you to vary the volume of both the headset and speaker levels for unswitched audio 1 thru 4. So it is quite feasible to get unswitched alerts on your speaker and have the volume way down on the headsets. Or vice versa. And quite easy to fix in the settings. I learn something new everyday. Don

Are you sure it is the cabin speaker and not one of the sonalerts right next to it? As far as I know, the GFC500 can be setup to use either an unswitched input on the audio panel or a sonalert? Aerodon

Need New Tachometer (Old Style) 1991 MSE (201) / 1997 Missile
Aerodon replied to RonM's topic in General Mooney Talk
Ron, We went around this circle recently. Tal was looking for a replacement tachometer to go with his mechanical tacho generator. I have a spare tachometer (same part number) but with a hall effect transducer on the magneto (I have a spare one of that too). But he found one that came out of a Mooney with a tachogenerator. So you need to get over some hurdles first: 1) accept that even if new is available it is going to be really expensive. 2) figure out if you have a hall effect or mechanical signal generator. 3) Is your fault with the signal generator or gauge? Then replace, Don -
FS: 12V BatteryMinder Model 128CEC1-AA-S2 $175 shipped

The factory will convert from S2 to S5 for about $90. Don -
I have a 40x40" AXYZ CNC router. Use 0.125" end mill bits with a misting spray. A panel like the one above has about 180 shapes and takes about an hour to cut. I can do things like match drill the Radiorax and various flush mounts that go behind the panel. Hardest part is getting the mounting holes accurate, overtime I cut a template I seem to get closer but there is always one or two that don't match nicely. The factory must have just hand drilled the holes and put a rivet in the tube or bracket and used the rubber mounts to take up the misalignment. Aerodon
-
Are you saying tilted forward like the radios it is 8 degrees, or tilted back like you have it is 8 degrees? Using standoffs and rubber mounts is a nice way of taking the angle, but I would firmly mount the bottom ones to make the panel rigid for the G5's? Aerodon

Looking for RH brake pedals '77 M20J
Aerodon replied to David M20J's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I have a complete set for you, send me a pm. Pedals, links, master cylinders, tubes to crossover to other side. It does not look too difficult to install, but you will need to remove the belly panels and front 'tunnels' to gain access to the pedals and pipework. I think there was a version that had valves between the pilot / co-pilot side and that made life difficult to bleed the brakes properly. My set is out of a later model, with no valves. Aerodon -
There are two SB's that apply to a 252 - one is to add a local ground to each ACU, the other is to relocate the V sense wires, by taking them off the Field CB. This makes sense because if the field trips then the warning light no longer work, just when you want them to work. But the implementation is goofy - they provided a splice to take the one V-sense to the annunciator panel and the other to the Hi/Lo vacuum switch. This sort of makes sense from an accessibility point of view, but then they ask for the CB's to be changed from 1A to 2 A. One you have access to those, its real easy to relocate these V-sense wires. Newer Mooneys have a separate 1A V-sense CB. Aerodon

The Encore conversion requires replacement of the POH with an Encore POH. So limitations like RPM. MP and max operating altitude written in the new POH apply. Aerodon

Electric Gear override Switch
Aerodon replied to Matthew P's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The gear override switch has a light inside and is a momentary push switch that must be held to bypass the airspeed switch. I have some spare new switches with 'GEAR SAFETY BYPASS" engraved on the face. Also have some spare Mooney round button and labels for you if you want to do this mod. -
Part Problem for Engine Continental TSIO360SB2B
Aerodon replied to Stefan Moehringer's topic in General Mooney Talk
You said your engine stopped without any further damage. If the failure was a fuel related problem, there should be no issues with overhauling a 2200 hour engine. If it was oil starvation, it does get more complicated - bearings etc. And if it was more catastrophic than that, you still have a 2200 hour engine, logbook and data-plate. Any part can be replaced to make you and your overhauler happy. I have an 1850 hour engine that was removed in running condition. The engine can be overhauled, or I am willing to part out, starting with the major components. Don- 14 replies

63C avionics access panel nut plate options
Aerodon replied to phxcobraz's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I use click bonds in places like that. clean the inside surface well with a small scotchbrite pad and then epoxy in. These come with the epoxy, but I have successfully used JB weld 'steel' slow drying epoxy. 5000psi if you mix it properly. If you get stuck finding nut plates in small quantities send me a PM. Aerodon -
If there were two different propellers listed on the type certificate, the logbook entry would be simple, removed 2 bladed prop, installed 3 bladed, update W&B etc. How is an encore conversion any different, it’s a configuration change, not a modification to the type certificate. It’s a series of changing one part for another, including the POH, complete with factory instructions. Don
