  1. Ya... About 30kt right on the nose of course. [emoji17] Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  2. I hear ya and understand the desire to clean it up. Be cautious with the old wiring, sometimes it's better to let sleeping dogs lie. To much movement can cause internal wire breaks which can be intermittent and VERY difficult to diagnose. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  3. "AOA, what a stupid instrument. If you don't know what your angle of attack is, you shouldn't be flying." Bahahaha! Love it! Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  4. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N3681D/history/20190717/1800Z/KEWB/KGKJ I was in and out of the clouds and could see a vast majority of this, but the ADSB was very very close in it's depiction of where the big nasty cells were. in addition, I learned how to use the four color radar. That's really cool once you know how to use it! With the faster update rate, ADSB weather is quite usable. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  5. Besides overall weight, how does fuel affect the CG? In my F the fuel is right on the CG. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  6. I will be rolling in there Monday. I won't be into the show until afternoon though. Will that be too late? Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  7. And of course, if you did not add LED lights, you didn't add any knots either! Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  8. My gear door nearly fell off. I caught it hanging by one screw and the linkage on my post flight. [emoji44] I took the screws out, drilled 1/8 holes and ran pop rivets into the piano hinge. Problem solved. If you ever have to take the gear door off, you'll have to drill the rivets, but how often do you take the gear doors off? Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  9. I found my gear door hanging off by one screw on a post-flight one day. [emoji44]. I actually took the screws out and pop riveted the piano hinge in place. No more worrying about gear doors coming off! Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  10. I was wondering about Berlin. I tried to call the airport but nobody answered. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks Bob! Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  11. I'm at a bit of a loss. We are trying to fly into Bethel Maine for a conference. The airport is unattended, and we need to figure out transportation. if there's anybody that lives around that area and has ideas for rental cars, please let me know. As of right now, the best option looks to be flying into Portland Maine then rent a car there and drive for 2 hours. I would much rather fly right into Bethel. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  12. What is running with the engine on that is not with the engine off.... Alternator Mags Regulator I would definitely be looking to one of those three as the culprit. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  14. Hope everybody has a happy, fun Independence day and everybody still has all their appendages tomorrow. [emoji322][emoji4] Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  15. KMDW is probably the most convenient. I think Atlantic charges 100 bucks a night for the hanger. Of course there's other fees with the FBO. I would also check out KDPA and KGYY. Both are a bit of a drive, or Uber ride, to the airport but without a doubt the hanger will be cheaper. You will probably have a hard time finding a non-stop flight out of KMKE, but if you do, KRAC might be a good choice. Any of the Chicago airports are going to stick you with pretty good fees. If I was going to be home, you could park it in my hanger at C77, unfortunately we are going to be out of town most of July. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  16. This is an important thing to remember for sure. Emotions can get high when you start to think about, "what might have happened." Nobody goes to work with the intention to kill somebody, well, I guess there are a few. In the pilot world, we talk a lot about distractions. In the airline world, it is a huge subject. We have systems set up in place to combat distraction. Distraction doesn't get talked about a lot in the maintenance side of things. Shops have a ton of distractions And it is very easy to forget something even as criticals a fuel line. I had a friend years ago with the same situation in a stearman. She had a fuel leak and didn't know it, the plane ran out of gas long before it was supposed to and she crashed in the Ozarks. Messed her up pretty good. To the OP: you bring up another interesting point; confirmation bias. This is insanely powerful! how easy it is to convince yourself that the problem is one thing and discount another. That is quite the fuel leak, I'm glad you were diligent! Sometimes it just takes being observant after a flight. I always postflight. During this time, I have caught several things... The least of which was a gear door that was hanging by one screw. [emoji44] Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  17. Hopefully, eventually, we will all learn what exactly happened with this horrible accident. Being a brand new airplane, It might very well be that it suffered infant mortality. I cannot imagine the physical emotional pain that Mark and his family are going through right now. My family's prayers are with you guys if you read this forum... And if you don't, they still are! The Man / family that dragged him out of the burning airplane definitely needs to be held up as a hero! So many simply get their phones out and are hoping for the next viral video. Finally... It pains me to see somebody get on this forum and talk about lawsuits and insurance costs. Seriously? My donation is sent. I hope that it helps in some small way! 19. Excellent.... Time to move on to ROP/LOP and no flap take-offs! [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787] Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  22. I know this subject has been covered adnausium but, a recent discussion got me thinking (a dangerous notion for sure.) Since our engines are flat-tappet engines, would it not make sense to run a ZDDP oil? For instance, Rotella T4 15w40. It seems to be an accepted reality that our engines will suffer cam and/or lifter failure at some point, usually prior to TBO. Why do we simply accept this from a 30k engine? Our engines are basically like an old muscle car engine. They will eat cams and lifters without ZDDP blended oil and that's why the roller tappet was invented. Exhaust valve temp is a concern (contaminates sticking to the stem), but from my research, as long as the cylinder temp stays less than 410 (and that's conservative), that's not a concern. The guy that turned me on to this ran Rotella in his 520 powered Bonanza for the last 1000 hours before the overhaul at 2200 hours. Never produced metal and was never topped. The overhaul was on time; not condition. When it was torn down, all tolerances were in spec. Please don't say, 'only use Aviation oil.' That's not what this discussion is about. 24. What you heard was a bingo fuel call. It varies depending on where you're at. We try to land at 5K lbs (usually more), minfuel is 4k and emergency fuel is 3K. From the point where he was holding, to his track to touchdown to his alternate plus his reserve prompted the decision to bail to the alternate. Bingo fuel is there for a reason. It's like V1 on takeoff. It takes the decision out of the hands of the pilot. Yes, the PIC always has discretion, but why would you go against a tried-and-true method that is safe? Think of the alternate reality... He attempts the approach, something happens (windshear maybe) and ends up well below his fuel on a missed approach and now he's fuel critical at Phoenix with emergency fuel; rather than a comfortable 5K he's now down to 3K. It happens that fast. Each go around for us costs 1500 pounds of fuel. s*** gets real pretty fast when you arrive at a destination with 3K on the airplane! Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  25. A few thoughts for you: 1) Find the mean range of prices for a particular model then look for the best example. 2) Mooneys are great airplanes, but do have some big-ticket items associated with them. Of course, this is not unlike other planes. 3) Project airplanes NEVER, repeat, NEVER work out financially. @skydvrboy is right, a $35K Mooney is going to demand alot of time, attention and money after-the-fact. I've done it both ways now. My Mooney turned out to be a project (due to a lousy pre-buy) and my 310 I bought as turn-key at the top end of price for the model and year; and I still had few demons to chase out of it. Trust me, the second way is better. 4) Finally, airplanes are like kids, you can't afford them, but you do. You will find other places to sacrifice for this addiction!
