  1. Funny this discussion is going on. My airplane is registered to me, however, that will be changing shortly. I recently learned that an LLC is not all that great anymore. It used to be pretty good for liability protection, but lawyers have figured out how to pierce the armor of the LLC. Once that armor is pierced, the track goes directly to you and your personal assets. One thing to consider, it's my understanding, there is no such thing as a, "Delaware LLC;" unless of course you live in Delaware. There is a Delaware Corporation. That's different. The LLC has to be filed in the state at which you are doing business. I have learned that to completely protect your personal assets, you need to have a dual entity setup. In other words, a Delaware Corporation and an individual LLC in which the aircraft is held. In the event of a lawsuit, the LLC may be pierced, but it will only get as far as the holding company.. I only know this because I am starting a business in a different Realm and I'm very concerned with asset protection. I'm not a lawyer, I don't even play one on TV, but it seems that this would apply to aircraft as well as other businesses. Realistically speaking, you should carry enough insurance to cover you in the event something happens. An LLC will not protect you like you think it would. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  2. Like I said, it's not a hard-and-fast rule, it's just another part of the equation. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  3. J-bar chrome coming off... not a big deal Fuel tank panel... looks like an ugly repair, but if not leaking. I would want to know specifics. The lack of time spent to mask the pucks when the gear was painted would bug me. In my head, I would be thinking, what else was cheaped-out on? It's probably a fine airplane, but.... Some food for thought: What kind of condition was the owner's car in? How about the hanger? It sounds silly, but our approach to aircraft maintenance largely mirrors our maintenance on our vehicles. If I was in the market and the owner showed up in a dirty car with trash all over the interior, I would be questioning their meticulousness in the care of the airplane. Not saying the two are always synonymous, but most of time they are. Flip-side; if I was trying to sell my plane, I have it polished and vacuumed with all the logs at hand and organized. Are you looking at this one because of price, or because it fits your mission? An airframe is just a container for the engine and avionics. I wish I had spent more up front to get the panel I wanted. Do yourself a favor and look at several more before making a decision. Get a feel for the different owners' pride of ownership. You can tell a lot from a simple phone call. Also, find all of the copies of the model you are looking at and run a spreadsheet of purchase cost of each. Remove the high and the low then average the prices. This is probably the best way to price an airplane. Once you get the mean price, add or subtract for condition. Good luck and welcome to Mooneyspace!
  4. I used@Piloto door seal idea. Four years and still seals tight. When they start to leak, I'll spend the $4 to replace them. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  5. VFR: Run one tank to 10 gallons. Run the other tank dry. When the engine quits, I know I have an hour of fuel left. IFR: Run one tank to 15 gallons, run the other till it indicates zero on the fuel guage. I always start with known quantity and I have a fuel totalizer so this makes it easy. 6. It's probably worth something, but you're right, with a digital options around the corner and Britain not in business anymore, it's probably not worth as much as it used to be. You should be able to do some comparison on eBay possibly with some sold auctions. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

  8. I tend to agree. I would rather have my Stratus an iPad as a backup then an old navcom. I would have no problem shooting an approach to minimums using my Stratus and an iPad. In fact, I have done that very thing, albeit with a VOR tuned for legality. I would choose a second GPS Source over a second VOR source Any day any time. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  9. Check your baffel seals. A small leak can produce some strange temperatures. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  10. Perfect. Thanks! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

  12. Does anybody have a part number, or know where I can get the rubber gasket between the bowl and the housing of the fuel selector? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  13. Taking Riley to Florida tomorrow. This will be a good long flight test of the Sabrecowl and all the work that has been put into it. David has been working hard to get the temperatures under control. After a test flight yesterday, it looks like we're getting very close to being where I want to be. We are seeing 390 in The Vy Climb and about 350 in cruise at 100 ROP and 70%. Of course, it's about 20 degrees Celsius hotter in Florida so we shall see. There's going to be a lot of heavy, long climbs on this trip. It is my understanding that this is running cooler than the LoPresti cowl now. We have not stopped the modifying process. David has some other ideas that he wants to investigate to try to get the temperature lower. I feel very positive we're going to be able to get rid of another 10 degrees at least. 14. Wow! At least you have the arguably best Mooney doc in Canada on the job! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

  17. This was the offending hub in Cody's shop. The red line is when the eddy current showed the crack. On a bright note, this hub flew into his shop. Shows how robust these props really are! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  18. Talk to @Codystallings. He will take care of you. There are plenty of shops that will do the eddy current inspection but not all will do it if it did not have the original AD completed. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  19. I sold mine already. Really nice to get rid of that thing! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  20. In addition, according to savvy, it's better to do a fast pull through Peak and attack the LOP from the back side.. In other words, pull straight into about 8.5 gallons an hour, set your monitor for ROP and slowly enrichen the mixture until you get the first cylinder that Peaks. Then go lean from there. Apparently this recommendation was born from seeing fine wire plugs breaking and Tempest coming to the conclusion that pulling through Peak slowly was the cause. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  21. Yes, that is correct. Its measured by your richest cylinder... In other words, the last one to peak. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  22. That is true. Sometimes we jump over the dollar to get the dime. I'm on trips I would rather burn in gallon per hour more and get there faster. [emoji106] Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  23. 10.5 seems really high for LOP ops. I usually see 8.4 at 130 indicated. That's about 40 LOP. At 5 LOP, I would be seeing around 9.5. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  24. Bahahaha!!! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  25. Looks great Bob! I'm going to have to do the same thing I think! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
