  5. Let's speak "C" for a second.... I have been flying Dave's "C" around for a bit now. We have been trying some different cowl flap settings. When I first started flying it, the CHT's were about 390 with 70ish% (23/2400) power and about 50-75 ROP. I can't get it to run LOP, but that's not unusual for a "C." Dave opened the cowl flaps a bit (not sure how much), but the result, with the same power setting and nearly identical atmospheric conditions, was about a 30 degree drop to the 365 range! We are going to try different cowl openings to get the most effective cooling in both airplanes. Will keep everyone posted.
  6. Wanted to give a quick update: Dave worked on "Riley" last night and got much accomplished. Namely getting the oil cooler installed and most of the baffling fitted. There is little more to trim, but the end is in sight! I am somewhat disappointed with the LASAR relocation kit in-as-much as it seems to be a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Well, one size didn't fit my plane. As you can see in the pictures, Dave got it worked out! The plane has been down for some three months now. We ran into clearance issues around the original placement of the oil cooler. The clearance issues fall under the, "it will work, but it's really tight." Dave gave me the option and I made the command decision to move the oil cooler which delayed us a bit. I would not change that decision. It makes a much cleaner install! Again, when I got into this project, I knew it would take a while, but I love experimenting and it has been great working with Dave! The end is in sight (pending 337 approval). Weather permitting, flight testing will begin immediately upon completion and I should have solid numbers everyone.

  9. Once there was a company that would supply first officers to airlines when they were short staffed. One of these was a dog named, "Co-pilot." Copilot did a great job and was a pleasure to fly with, so he was popular. One day, an airline was in need and they called the crew company. They specifically requested Copilot is he did such a great job the last time. Their response was not positive.   11. It seems the biggest gains are achieved by cleaning up the underside. This makes sense since it is a high-pressure area. I'd probably gain 5 knots by getting rid of my antenna farm on the belly! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

  13. Quick update applicable to those with Ram-Air. @Marauder @Bob_Belville For the past week I have been cruising around in Dave's plane (que evil laugh). I have to say, it's amazing that a 180 HP model can outrun mine by 5+ KT. While doing some TAS testing, I noticed the MP was the same as mine at the same altitude and roughly the same temp. 23" In my plane 23" was achieved at 6500MSL with a DA of roughly 7500FT with the Ram-Air open. Dave's achieves the same MP with no Ram-Air. I had to go back and look at my recorded data from six months ago to make sure. What I am getting at here is the fact that I don't think the Ram-Air will make a bit of difference with the mod. This was my and still is my theory. Flight testing will prove either way, but it's looking positive for the Ram-Air to to be removed! I don't know if it mod related or not, but I noticed it is much harder to come down and slow down in Dave's plane. It's a very slippery C!

  25. Welcome KY! I did exactly what you are trying to do. The ACCUTRAK2 is fairly easy to come by. I think Brittain may even have some computers. The real challenge is finding the BI-805 valve. This is the component the computer talks to to route the vacuum. Before you spend the money and time to track the components down, this is my experience with the ACCUTRAK2. For analog functions such as VOR/LOC it does a really good job. With a GPS, not so much. The reason is the way GPS sends the signal. The GPS sends a digital signal and the analog controller can't really figure out what is going on. It has a tendency to hunt, but will track if you don't mind wandering a bit. I suppose with a D/A converter you could make it work well and I have been thinking about trying to design one... in all my spare time. LOL! It does work, but don't expect it to perform like a digital autopilot. Of course, it's not a $20000 autopilot either.
