  1. This whole thing has gotten me bloody well depressed. Any word on how Mooney space members Hyett and Gee Bee are doing. Hope they are getting better. I feel sad for people that don't know the joy of having a dog in their life. They are so uplifting good times or bad. Do what you need to do for yourself and those closest to you. We now have two cases in Lake county some guy brought it back from another county job site and has since given it to a family member. Both are quarantined hopefully will stop there. But when they get well they will be essentially immune. I still believe herd immunity is better it could take months or even years to develop a vaccine and until they do we will still be vulnerable and all of this effort will have been for nothing if there is another spike and folks that have lost their jobs or business that will be closed for good will suffer far worse. My heart goes out to all those that have suffered loss of life but unfortunately this is what we all face all the time pandemic or not. And as I said in an earlier post I fear that the next time we have another viral surge they will shut everything down again. If this is the new normal well that just sucks.
  2. During my PPL flight training my CFI accused me of being a Naval Aviator in a previous life as I had a tendency to dive for the deck on landings. As a retired Air Force pilot and instructor I don't think he meant it as a compliment.
  3. What I fear is that the new normal is that every time we have a new strain of virus flu or otherwise we will all just shut down our lives give up our freedom destroy our economy and allow our local officials to deny our constitutional rights. Not to mention let's say we are successful in flattening the 19 curve at some point they are going to have to release the masses and then all of us that we're not infected will be without the antibodies needed to have a resistance to this virus. And we will have to start all this over again. No vaccine is 100% effective I understand that a steep curve is bad because it can overwhelm our medical system but if you deny the herd mentality you risk going back to square one. Yes the virus is bad but not the first time our species has had to ward off an attack but the first time in my life that we have shut down life as we know it.
  4. As an owner of a NA I'd like to chime in that this is a good idea. It would help to provide more specific topics and minimize some thread drift we see on subjects like flight operations specific to each type. Just my 2 cents
  5. PM sent, thanks again Anthony
  6. Thank you Anthony, I knew you would come through on this inquiry. You da man.
  7. Welcome Mark, some will say run away and could be great advise. However there is no way to be certain of what expenses lay around the corner on any purchase of a used airplane. My own experience was also a 64 and tragically its owner was killed in a GA crash and the family did not want to keep the plane but would not permit it be flown out for a PPI. I was unable to find anyone to do inspection where it was based and ended up buying it without much more than a test flight which is a story in itself. Over the first few years it took quite a bit of investment to get it into shape and at the time of purchase I had no idea how much it had been flown in the past year but it was still in annual. My point is that this airplane compared to all the different posts folks here on MS that have or are having issues that have kept them grounded my dispatch reliability rivals almost anyone's. A PPI is a good idea but still not a sure fire way to say you won't be spending lots of money or at least more than normal, whatever that is. If the airframe is without corrosion (lots of posts on what to look for) you might find this to be a good choice but be certain you will have your work cut out for you getting it back in shape. Since I had no intention of becoming an IFR pilot the avionics were not a big issue but if you are planning on instrument rated then this plane is not a good choice. After its all said and done I could have purchased a very nice updated E or F with a low time engine for what I have invested in ours but then who's to say weather that plane might not suffer a catastrophic engine failure. Good luck and don't be a one hit wonder here on MS. Not a professional anything, just ramblings of thought as we observe this stupid stay at home advisory
  8. I recall on a thread someone posted a picture of a C195 yellow and white but can't seem to find the picture and if they are the owner. Does anyone know who that was. I am thinking of doing a painting of the 195 and would like to use it for subject rather than just some random pics on the inteweb. I've always loved the look and Art Deco style of its design.
  9. Marinetex comes in white. Can be used to fix cracked boat hulls need I say more.
  10. LASAR has a fuel selection sticker that is marked and has the detentes for levers position 707 263 0412 also for your crack repairs I recommend using Marinetex. It's a two part epoxy and I have found it to be stronger than anything I've ever used. I have successfully repaired things with it that you would not believe. It's puddy like consistency make it easy to apply and it is sand able.
  11. Replaced ours a few years ago but just wanted to say fantastic work to put this together. With the closure of the factory this type of thing may become normal and needed as I was having a conversation with my IA yesterday and he is becoming concerned about their ability to perform annuals as parts become scarce. Well done MS.
  12. Clear skies today got snoopy out and flew the local sky and did four full stop landings. two closed pattern and two out and back over the lake with some standard rate turns. Winds were very tricky over the numbers and a good bit of rust needed to be shook from the nut on the yoke. Was great to get the wind under my wings and since it was very cool and I was solo climb rate was over 1200fpm. Landings were the good the bad and the ugly but decided to add a forth and it was smooth as silk. I think places that have minimal covid19 should be allowed to start getting back to normal activity. Here in Lake County there are zero cases. When we were kids they used to have mumps and measles parties when one kid would contract the disease so everyone would get it and develop immunity.
  13. Hope your not going to shut down ops at 1o2 what are your plans for the current location.
  14. Love them dogs, now to us Magneto is the obvious winner and I'm sure you all feel that way about your pups. But who can argue that this isn't the happiest face you've ever seen.
  15. Until now this important discussion has been informative and even though there have been some political undertones it's been very civil. If you take it to an attack on either side of the political spectrum all that will result is insult and administrative shut down of this thread. Just saying
  16. You got that right, mine failed but was the tach not the cable. replaced with a digital primary unit took a couple hours but was simple job.
  17. Your right I meant nearly 13 thousand not million...my bad
  18. As for my conclusions lets just say I'm trying to be optimistic I have never been one to panic.
  19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that swine flu infected nearly 61 million people in the United States and caused 12,469 deaths. Worldwide, up to 575,400 people died from pandemic swine flu. same source so yes
  20. Description Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 is the subtype of influenza A virus that was the most common cause of human influenza in 2009, and is associated with the 1918 outbreak known as the Spanish flu. It is an orthomyxovirus that contains the glycoproteins haemagglutinin and neuraminidase. You mention that nothing like this virus has happened since 1918 yet H1N1 happened in 2009 and nearly 13 thousand people died in the US and over 500k world wide. So far we are just over 1100 infected and just over 30 dead. I think people are a bit too panicked over this. Yes it's serious but I think folks need to take a chill pill. With all the cancellation of big events and now no flights from Europe as well as all the existing restrictions as well as school closures etc. this pandemic is going to fade just as fast as it began. At least I hope so. Dont forget, wash your hands and cover your face when you sneeze
  21. Welllll...at least we approach our landings the same but when it comes to the flight levels I'm not in your league. Many of the small fields with close rising terrain that we fly to require a fluid approach sometimes steep descent with a full forward slip and full flaps gets it done others a nice stable procedure is fine. My first instructor retired Air Force pilot that flew both fixed wing and rotors in combat during the Vietnam war really stressed stick and rudder and learning how to control what you want the airplane to do. Was such a joy to fly with him.
  22. Tragic for sure especially for all those that suffered the loss of life. God speed
  23. Well put, but this whole discussion about reconfiguring for the go around and all I can think of is why not do what I do and set flaps to take off position (in my case two pumps) on approach. you have one less thing to worry about if the go around becomes necessary. Making it even easier still. Unless I'm coming into a real short landing requirement I like a little more speed over the numbers and just fly it onto the runway definitely an advantage with the screwy winds we have at home. I'm sorry to say and I know almost everyone out there will tell me I'm doing it wrong but I never hear the stall horn just before it touches down. Just saying. most important stay ahead of your airplane fly it don't let it fly you.
  24. Thank you I couldn't remember what it was called
