You are correct however there have been a few citations issued in my county even though we have only 6 total positive cases and three of those have already recovered and given the all clear. My point is the mandatory closing of business and most commercial "non essential activities" this HAS been enforced and caused possible un recoverable damage to our economy. We blew through a two plus four TRILLION dollar stimulus faster than my last roll of toilet paper. Debt on top of dept the potential for massive inflation is a real concern. I certainly don't want anyone to suffer from this let alone die but there have been many reports of inflated numbers of deaths attributed to covid19 for example in NY when they hit around 11 thousand they clearly listed that over 3700 were people that were quote un tested but they were listed as covid deaths. Also I am curious about the total lack of death being attributed to the flu this season I can't find any numbers and since we are not getting 100% testing done and with symptoms very similar I would bet dollars to doughnuts they are listed as covid caused and added to the totals. As for not setting a precedent well time will tell and please educate me if I'm wrong about the draft but didn't the US congress enact some kind of wartime legislation as per the constitution as opposed to state governments just forcing people to close their businesses with nothing more than some health official making a recommendation not even a debate within each states legislative body. Just a declaration of as of this date you are prohibited from this and that until further notice. totally un constitutional

Ours has an Stec 40 don't read many posts About that particular model but as I said before as a VFR flyer it is a real nice system very simple to operate

Fantastic, congrats to you sir. Hope your future relations with your new Mooney are a wonderful experience . Looks real nice can you provide some more photos

How on earth do you tie a cheap bastard to a bus sorry I couldn't help myself

You are correct Anthony our choices do, but that includes many things including flying our airplanes over densely populated areas. Look I know this situation is complicated but we have to be very very careful about how it will impact our freedom and for those of our children. There is a lot more at stake here than the sickness of our fellow man. Be well my friend

Just wondering if folks that have had their business impacted by this over reaching violation of our constitutional rights are in jeopardy of losing their beloved Mooney. I know some of you are professional pilots I sure hope and pray your doing OK. It doesn't look like anyone is willing to be the first to actually step up and let life start to return to normal. And we are hearing such Orwellian ideas of having to carry an immunity card in order to go out into public. I see that all the so called geniuses and their projections on how many people were going to die from this weren't even close. I know we're not out of the woods yet but how can you make such draconian predictions if you don't have the most important part of your math equation i.e., how many have been infected. Why has California had so few cases compared to areas on the eastern end of the country we have 40 million people in this state the most likely answer is that we were exposed to this virus possibly as early as last December and have already acquired some level of immunity. There are so many examples of regions in this country that have hardly any cases especially when you compare it to yearly average cases of the flu for shits sake and they have to follow to same blueprint as say NY City. This shutdown of the economy and of our constitutional rights is far far more deadly than a damn virus. All this social distancing has done is Delayed our only way to fight this infection by developing our bodies natural immunity through exposure like we do with every flu season. Are you willing to wait until next year in the hopes of a vaccine we have never been able to create one that is even close to being truly effective, ever. and now that we have allowed our government at every level to herd us like the sheep we are into a state of fear and self imposed quarantine we have created the precedent for the next viral threat perhaps this fall we will all just close our doors again that is if we are lucky enough to even be allowed to open them up ever again if it starts to get worse which is inevitable because we prevented our immunity by sheltering . I find it very concerning that the government gets to decide what is an essential business. I would think everyone's business that provides the ability to pay the bills and support your family is pretty F...ing essential to them. Absolute power corrupts absolutely is dangerously close. To all my fellow Mooney flyers please forgive my angry rant but I am so disheartened by how this has and is still playing out with no end in sight. i hope all of you are well

To the OP consider yourself lucky that you discovered Mooney space before purchasing your Mooney. I am in the minority of pilots on this site that is not instrument rated and do the vast majority of flights less than 200 miles from home. That said I am very happy that our C model has a working AP it's only a single axis but it only takes a few minutes to trim out in cruise and once done will hold ALT with very little attention. Once our heading is set via portable gps I engage the AP and can just relax and enjoy the flight with an occasional adjustment on the heading bug. It's also able to track VOR navigation so on the rare occasion we are following victor airways I can dial in the r-nav and fly right to each waypoint. I probably knew less about the airplane we bought than anyone ever in the history of airplane purchases and remember asking my CFI during transition training what this thing on the panel was and he said that's your AP. Oh, nice was my reply. On the very unlikely chance of flying VFR into IMC I am happy to know that I can direct a coordinated 180 turn by simply adjusting my heading bug back the way I came and if things were really bad would be able to follow ATC headings to get us out of danger. so even someone like me that fly's VFR out in California where weather prediction is super consistent it's nice to have the AP Good luck with your search and flight training

Tail Art Thread (Mooney Aircraft only please)

Not my Mooney but saw this one on the ramp and liked the tail art so snapped a picture. Perhaps the owner is on MS and could share a better photo. -
This whole thing has gotten me bloody well depressed. Any word on how Mooney space members Hyett and Gee Bee are doing. Hope they are getting better. I feel sad for people that don't know the joy of having a dog in their life. They are so uplifting good times or bad. Do what you need to do for yourself and those closest to you. We now have two cases in Lake county some guy brought it back from another county job site and has since given it to a family member. Both are quarantined hopefully will stop there. But when they get well they will be essentially immune. I still believe herd immunity is better it could take months or even years to develop a vaccine and until they do we will still be vulnerable and all of this effort will have been for nothing if there is another spike and folks that have lost their jobs or business that will be closed for good will suffer far worse. My heart goes out to all those that have suffered loss of life but unfortunately this is what we all face all the time pandemic or not. And as I said in an earlier post I fear that the next time we have another viral surge they will shut everything down again. If this is the new normal well that just sucks.

During my PPL flight training my CFI accused me of being a Naval Aviator in a previous life as I had a tendency to dive for the deck on landings. As a retired Air Force pilot and instructor I don't think he meant it as a compliment.

What I fear is that the new normal is that every time we have a new strain of virus flu or otherwise we will all just shut down our lives give up our freedom destroy our economy and allow our local officials to deny our constitutional rights. Not to mention let's say we are successful in flattening the 19 curve at some point they are going to have to release the masses and then all of us that we're not infected will be without the antibodies needed to have a resistance to this virus. And we will have to start all this over again. No vaccine is 100% effective I understand that a steep curve is bad because it can overwhelm our medical system but if you deny the herd mentality you risk going back to square one. Yes the virus is bad but not the first time our species has had to ward off an attack but the first time in my life that we have shut down life as we know it.

As an owner of a NA I'd like to chime in that this is a good idea. It would help to provide more specific topics and minimize some thread drift we see on subjects like flight operations specific to each type. Just my 2 cents

PM sent, thanks again Anthony

Thank you Anthony, I knew you would come through on this inquiry. You da man.

Welcome Mark, some will say run away and could be great advise. However there is no way to be certain of what expenses lay around the corner on any purchase of a used airplane. My own experience was also a 64 and tragically its owner was killed in a GA crash and the family did not want to keep the plane but would not permit it be flown out for a PPI. I was unable to find anyone to do inspection where it was based and ended up buying it without much more than a test flight which is a story in itself. Over the first few years it took quite a bit of investment to get it into shape and at the time of purchase I had no idea how much it had been flown in the past year but it was still in annual. My point is that this airplane compared to all the different posts folks here on MS that have or are having issues that have kept them grounded my dispatch reliability rivals almost anyone's. A PPI is a good idea but still not a sure fire way to say you won't be spending lots of money or at least more than normal, whatever that is. If the airframe is without corrosion (lots of posts on what to look for) you might find this to be a good choice but be certain you will have your work cut out for you getting it back in shape. Since I had no intention of becoming an IFR pilot the avionics were not a big issue but if you are planning on instrument rated then this plane is not a good choice. After its all said and done I could have purchased a very nice updated E or F with a low time engine for what I have invested in ours but then who's to say weather that plane might not suffer a catastrophic engine failure. Good luck and don't be a one hit wonder here on MS. Not a professional anything, just ramblings of thought as we observe this stupid stay at home advisory

I recall on a thread someone posted a picture of a C195 yellow and white but can't seem to find the picture and if they are the owner. Does anyone know who that was. I am thinking of doing a painting of the 195 and would like to use it for subject rather than just some random pics on the inteweb. I've always loved the look and Art Deco style of its design.

M20E Broken Plastic Armrest/ Fuel Selector Markings
bonal replied to Tahir K's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
LASAR has a fuel selection sticker that is marked and has the detentes for levers position 707 263 0412 also for your crack repairs I recommend using Marinetex. It's a two part epoxy and I have found it to be stronger than anything I've ever used. I have successfully repaired things with it that you would not believe. It's puddy like consistency make it easy to apply and it is sand able. -
Replaced ours a few years ago but just wanted to say fantastic work to put this together. With the closure of the factory this type of thing may become normal and needed as I was having a conversation with my IA yesterday and he is becoming concerned about their ability to perform annuals as parts become scarce. Well done MS.

Clear skies today got snoopy out and flew the local sky and did four full stop landings. two closed pattern and two out and back over the lake with some standard rate turns. Winds were very tricky over the numbers and a good bit of rust needed to be shook from the nut on the yoke. Was great to get the wind under my wings and since it was very cool and I was solo climb rate was over 1200fpm. Landings were the good the bad and the ugly but decided to add a forth and it was smooth as silk. I think places that have minimal covid19 should be allowed to start getting back to normal activity. Here in Lake County there are zero cases. When we were kids they used to have mumps and measles parties when one kid would contract the disease so everyone would get it and develop immunity.

Hope your not going to shut down ops at 1o2 what are your plans for the current location.

Love them dogs, now to us Magneto is the obvious winner and I'm sure you all feel that way about your pups. But who can argue that this isn't the happiest face you've ever seen.

Love of flying in the Time of Coronavirus
bonal replied to ilovecornfields's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Until now this important discussion has been informative and even though there have been some political undertones it's been very civil. If you take it to an attack on either side of the political spectrum all that will result is insult and administrative shut down of this thread. Just saying
