  1. Perhaps we should consider the possibility that snack bar A10 wants a Mooney. After all we all love our Mooneys I know I love ours. I can cruise at 172 speeds and am probably not more than 6gph. But if I want to go 140 plus knots it’s available to me. Our D has a useful load of 1010 pounds. Hope you find something that works for you.
  2. Seems simple to me, you wouldn’t take the whole family for a drive in a 911 if that’s the goal you need an SUV with wings I hear the big Bonanza’s are nice
  3. I’m very particular about the shoes I wear when flying short laces a must but the feel I get from rudder to brake is very important. Playing my drums is always barefoot. And no long laces when riding my rice rocket as they can and do get caught on the shifter or brake just as you try to put your foot down when stopped. And no I’ve never laid it down but it has happened but was able to catch it in time. Regardless it’s a shame this happened.
  4. I don’t know if this was in reference to my comment about spraying lubricant on the bar slider and lock blocks. I agree that there are many moving parts that could cause a problem and hopefully they are being checked during every annual. Having said if I lubricated the bar and it continues to be difficult to lock I would consider other issues. As it was the problem went away after applying triflow under the slider and on the blocks so since nothing else was touched I think it is safe to say that’s where the problem was. just saying
  5. Last couple of flights I had a hard time getting it to lock into the lock down block. Believe me I really tugged on it on short final green light was on and no issues. Next flight I brought some spray lubricant and shot it under the slider and into the block. Next gear cycle it went into the block and locked with zero effort. Try the simplest solution first.
  6. Looks like LASAR might have seen my post as they have updated the website and changed the phone numbers. Watched the video and at the very end it shows two Mooneys parked the F with the extra window was a project they were working on back at Lampson it has been parked on the ramp there for a couple years. Last time I went flying I noticed it was gone and wondered where it went. I suppose they got a ferry permit to fly it to OR. Glad to see it isn’t going to rot away. I hope this ends up being a positive not a negative.
  7. Yes I’m based @1o2 and knew that Dan hadn’t moved to OR but wasn’t sure if he was still managing parts. Good to know since he has extensive knowledge. Was a real bummer when they packed up and moved. Having done several owner assisted annuals there I became quite familiar with where all the parts were located I would just grab the needed parts and let Dan know to add it to my bill. Lake Aero was the reason I ended up getting a Mooney.
  8. Lots of vintage cars out there as you point out but it’s also much easier to produce something that doesn’t have all the regulations and required certification that our vintage fleet has. Even something as simple as an intake duct is considered unobtainable. Sadly I think the long term survival of general aviation will depend on the experimental. Soon even the other more popular brands will suffer the same fate. Can you obtain bonanza ruddervators lots of V tails out there. Just sayin. beech
  9. Looking at the LASAR website there is no mention of the new policy for parts. Also weird is the phone number is still the same as it was when they were still in lake county CA. Don’t know if Dan is still handling parts locally but the fact he was the true GOAT when it came to knowledge on parts. I know LASAR went through some tough times when they first moved to rancho down near Sacramento but it looks as though things have improved for them lately. Know idea who is on their staff hopefully they have some good knowledgeable people. Paul Loewan and Dan would be hard to match when it comes to Mooney knowledge. Looks like the factory is pretty much throwing in the towel. Hopefully this will make things better not worse. Glad my D has the J bar.
  10. Watching this on the news way to tragic praying for all involved.
  11. Because it’s easier to say, amazing that there were no serious injuries considering the amount of force to do that kind of damage.
  12. As for the maintenance issues if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. If it needs repair then get it done if it’s more expensive than you want to spend well only you can answer that for yourself. as Anthony would say Best regards
  13. Retired from a most stressful and complex job seven years ago. Enjoy the low stress of retirement but need a little challenge to keep the brain functioning properly. I love being in the air but even more I like the challenge of flying always trying to achieve the impossible the perfect flight zero mistakes hitting the numbers exactly as planned etc. don’t make many long flights to be quite honest our plane is basically moms grocery getter doing milk runs. Some folks drive to Wally World we fly, retail in our area is very limited. Also enjoy the upkeep making sure I am a good steward being at the hangar doing whatever is needed even just cleaning the bugs is very relaxing. Lots of ways to spend time and money in life can’t think of anything better than knowing you can just get out and fly your own plane. Well then there’s the rice rocket but that’s another story.
  14. So many negative waves, it seems the OP is asking good questions and it seems that this airplane has been well cared for. New prop new shock disks and an IA that has been with the plane for 40 years with the same owner. Don’t know how hard it is to remove the fuel tanks but from what I understand the wood wing has an actual metal fuel tank that is probably a lot easier to maintain than the goop that is in most of our mooneys. Just saying there is someone that wants to take stewardship of a piece of Mooney history. I think that’s pretty cool and I hope it works out for him and this plane. Just because a newer plane that is no guarantee of some issues that could permanently ground the aircraft lots of airplanes flying around that are much older and in beautiful condition. Go with eyes wide open and good luck some pictures would be nice.
  15. Very nice Scott, I know envy is not a good emotion but damn. As for paint scheme well try to think about how it will age in time not the paint but the design. Sometimes simple clean lines tend to be more timeless than elaborate swooping and swirling designs.
  16. Milk run to WLW yesterday and this bad boy landed a few minutes after us.
  17. Spent about eight hours over two days using a new product for me called Skywash waterless cleaner. Was fairly clean but just dull and lacking any shine. Easy wipe on and wipe off. Followed with a light coat of Turtlewax spay and wipe. Very happy with results and noted an increase of FIVE knots on the IAS at my usual power level. I know it’s not precise but normally I see 130 and this latest trip was consistent at 135kts @ 5500 elevation 2400 20 inches
  18. My D is converted but it’s still a D. If you do the Io360 upgrade does it make it an E or a modified C asking for a friend.
  19. Has to be one of the nicest C models out there. Thanks for the nice flight O.
  20. Our hangar would get saturated following rainy days didn’t leak during the rain but following the storms in the early morning condensation would be so bad it was like a rain shower in the hangar. Simple solution was to put a box fan leaning against the wall angled towards the ceiling and have it run for five or six hours in the pre dawn on a timer. Worked great would have been even better if I had placed it against the door pointing up towards the front of the cowling directing the air into the cowl. Next winter I’ll do that. I know that it won’t work for internal engine condensation but I’m sure the reduction in the overall condensation in the hangar would be an improvement.
  21. Or perhaps why don’t we make it about things like weather and flying opportunities and aviation employment in certain areas around our amazing country. It really doesn’t matter what your political leanings are in this country you will find agreement and disagreement wherever you are. Hangar availability cost of living climate that is agreeable the things that really matter. We don’t have to silence ourselves for fear of being offensive. I think the OP is reaching out to us because he knows we are a very wise group of individuals that can be helpful with something that is a very important decision in his life. Aviators are a special kind of people and I believe we can approach this request with the same level of thoughtfulness we apply to our passion for the things we do. Let’s do that.
  22. Looks real nice, but more importantly did you do a three course speed check before so you ca quantify any speed gains. If so please file a full report.
  23. Perhaps you should get the controller an AOA indicator to help with that erratic attitude
  24. Is @mluvara providing depositions in this case for the defendants. If not I think his research would be very helpful in slowing this shit show down until issues with the fuel are resolved
