  1. I haven't messed with it yet, but I'm curious if the ifd540 has the odp procedure in the database. Keep forgetting to look. I fly them very very rarely.
  2. They are very poorly documented IMO. With digital data becoming more pervasive it would be nice to chart them instead of hiding them in the af/d
  3. I have not departed a towered field with an odp, do they actually issue it? I have done many uncontrolled fields and it's the pilots responsibility to fly the odp and assumed they will. Center doesn't care. I have not departed an uncontrolled field under a tracon with an odp so I don't know if they issue it either.
  4. I didn't see how old the pilot was. I have flown with older ATP pilots and had "the talk" with one that was having trouble seeing the instruments. He knew... It's just hard to admit I think.
  5. Nah. Just hook it up to the pilot relief tube and use the urine to deice
  6. I find it hard to believe an atp rated pilot didn't know how to file a flight plan. Maybe he was asking for a computer to use or something. Never know I guess.
  7. Just get a rat or adg and pop it out of the cowl to power the anti ice when engaged.
  8. I've been watching it. Been listed a couple times without a sale. Plans changed and decided it's not worth the money.
  9. I'm game it probably wouldn't be any cheaper than just paying CAV 45k to do TKS I bet.
  10. I sent that article to our wing president or whatever he's called, thinking it's something he might want to distribute. Not a peep back. Nice. I was unfamiliar with it until I saw this thread. They encourage us to use the NGF telephony, you would think some additional attention to this issue would be warranted.
  11. I think I read 70 amps. There are other systems in development that cycle different areas of the strips so it's not such a huge draw. Perhaps those show potential.
  12. I'm still not sure why you couldn't run the airplane off a 20 or 30 amp accessory drive alternator and run the biggest alternator you can find in the factory spot. Between the two I would think you'd have enough power for inadvertent protection. Maybe there's room on the tsio-520 to drive a second alternator, I'm not sure about that either.
  13. As I think you're finding out its completely situational. As with the others if it's a thin layer and I can get through it I'll consider it as long as the bases are high enough that I'm not flying the approach in it. I'll also pop through it if it's extremely cold. I live out west where the terrain limits options below and it's freezing at the surface all winter. There are areas like the Cascades where I wouldn't even consider trying it. My training (part 141) was to interpret k own icing as visible moisture and below freezing temps. Very safe but not very practical, though I guess I do basically still treat it that way.
  14. why aren't there any K or newer with boots? It can't be that complicated, can it?
  15. why not remove the vac pump and add an alternator there?
  16. I'm not certain he fully grasps the irony.
  17. So, that's your argument? The best you can come up with is a personal attack? You're 12 years old, cool.
  18. GM doesn't charge me to flash new software to my car. This is no different. Statement still stands.
  19. Guess I'm done with avidyne then.
  20. Why isn't it covered under warranty?
  21. Is 2 hours per update normal? Seems like a lot of labor to plug it in and ignore it.
  22. Hrm, now I have to see if my AXP340 has this feature. edit. Oh, I can change callsign easily. Problem solved.
  23. he was a much better bush pilot than most, maybe all, of us.
  24. aaaaand we've taken eleventeen left turns now.
  25. Nah it just needs to be not overcooked
