  1. wilmar isn't that far in a mooney, I'd take it there or houston and see if they'll patch it.
  2. Wow, first time I've heard arapahoe aero and "relatively inexpensive" together, lol they charged us 9 hours to install a reiff engine heater....
  3. That was AOPA. I don't have a ton, but I have enough hours that it shouldn't be 13k.
  4. They don't work that well for the jets, why would they work any better for GA?
  5. everyone is talking about fuel burn. no one has mentioned how costly twin insurance is,
  6. The fact that insurance for an individual owner hasn't been mentioned once leads me to believe not many have any twin experience. Last time I requested a quote for a 310 it was 13k a year.
  7. AIM 4-4-10(d) d. When ATC has not used the term “AT PILOT’S DISCRETION” nor imposed any climb or descent restrictions, pilots should initiate climb or descent promptly on acknowledgement of the clearance. Descend or climb at an optimum rate consistent with the operating characteristics of the aircraft to 1,000 feet above or below the assigned altitude, and then attempt to descend or climb at a rate of between 500 and 1,500 fpm until the assigned altitude is reached. If at anytime the pilot is unable to climb or descend at a rate of at least 500 feet a minute, advise ATC. If it is necessary to level off at an intermediate altitude during climb or descent, advise ATC, except when leveling off at 10,000 feet MSL on descent, or 2,500 feet above airport elevation (prior to entering a Class C or Class D surface area), when required for speed reduction.
  8. depending on route my airport lies right on the edge of mountains. I need to get from minimum 12,5 to 6500 in not too many miles. Less than 1k FPM isn't really feasible trucking along at 200+ knots.
  9. 300 hours puts the engines at 1085 SMOH. Why 300 hours? in '76 the TBO was apparently increased to 1600 hours on them.
  10. makes me want to sell the mooney. Pressurized, anti ice, and a nice panel for 140k?
  11. tried to bleed ours, I used to have a mightyvac that could pressure and vacuum, bought another one. Guess the new ones only suck, plus with the inner gear doors and lack of access it just wasn't happening. I'll get someone to do it.
  12. He's out now, now we'll never leave him alone!
  13. man, you guys aren't making me feel any better.
  14. well, you gotta figure you can't swing a cat by the tail around an airport and not hit a doctor or lawyer
  15. that's another stumbling block for me. I don't know how to decide if this guys wroth a darn or not. He's done it before I guess, so that's good. I don't think I can travel for this, maybe I can. Who knows. It's worth exploring.
  16. wonder if it'll have 4g and a GPS http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2017/03/21/apple-unveils-new-ipad-329/99441494/
  17. Nah, that's what mooneyspace is for Say, why don't you put your N number in your profile?
  18. well, here's what they want to do to me. I don't feel so bad now.
  19. holy shit man. do the TSA guys draw their guns the instant you hit the xray machine? Is that why you fly GA?
  20. you better chain that prop to the airframe before someone like me "borrows" it
  21. thanks, sent you a PM. come out west, you can do it.
  22. doc suggests I do, I've heard nothing but horror stories so I'm a little... hesitant. I imagine it'll mean no flying for at least 4-6 months, plus no work for at least 2 or so. That's its own can of worms.
  23. My impression is erik's primary motivation was losing weight on the nose and gaining prop clearance.
  24. you can change the flight ID on most transponders.....
  25. shopping for airplanes with other people's money? HOW FUN!
