  1. I'm confused. If he didn't buy a tug from you how could you refund half his money or not accept a return?
  2. There are multiple entries on the FAA website for the RG-35AXC. The relevant information for Mooneys is here: http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgpma.nsf/0/C07AC498BE926620862575A10051ADD9?OpenDocument
  3. The PMA for the RG-35AXC was updated to include the M20J on 3/1/2005 (supplement 77).
  4. The PMA approval includes the eligible aircraft models.
  5. The FAA PMA for the R1530B doesn't list M20J and the part number it replaces is not a Mooney part number. http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgpma.nsf/0/17F9E2297D2B4A5C8625759400684A36?OpenDocument
  6. The R1530B doesn't appear to specifically list the J.
  7. The R15300 has the J listed. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/zeftronicsreg.php
  8. Have you checked with O&N? They might have some used ones left over from bladder installations.
  9. Third hand from someone who is mad about not passing might not be entirely credible. Ever heard someone gripe about a teacher or professor who failed them over some little detail? There are usually much bigger issues (didn't attend class or didn't turn in homework) and the person who failed rationalizes the outcome by blaming the professor rather than admitting their own shortcomings. It seems more likely that this pilot failed because of a general disregard for risk analysis or some other combination of issues. Or, the DPE could be a jerk but your time is better spent on general prep rather than worrying about some possibly bogus story. Demonstrate a good attitude toward risk assessment and you should be ok.
  10. The irony there is that TLA is not an acronym, it's an initialism. To be an acronym it must be a pronounceable word.
  11. I suspect there's more to the story than what you have been told.
  12. Have you checked with Mooney to see if it is on their approved list? The parts catalog says, "Refer to MAC retrofit dwg 940125 for replacement 14V voltage regulators."
  13. You might want to check the useful load on this one. It might be on the low side. The empty weight of the M20J increased through the early 80s. Eventually Mooney increased the maximum gross weight and there's an STC for a gross weight increase on some older airframes but I don't think this one is eligible.
  14. Can the 480 display traffic and weather from Garmin ADS-B receivers like the GDL88?
  15. The GNS 480 and the MX 20 are both orphaned boxes.
  16. While some use "mouses" as the plural form it is not the most common or preferred form. Even the AP Style Book recommends "computer mice."
  17. Next time I'm calling you. It will be faster to wait for you to arrive in your Comanche.
  18. Another good reason not to worry about trying to stop the prop on final. The "recovery" effort can cause substantial damage to the airframe. In my case the airport manager informed me it was my responsibility to remove my plane from the runway. He had phone numbers for a couple of towing/recovery services that specialize in semis but I had to make the call. They arrived with a crane truck and wanted to put a big strap around the aircraft. That probably would have caused more damage than the belly landing. In the end they used large inflatable bags under the wings and we were able to pull the jammed gear down from the outside. The whole process took several hours.
  19. It also makes sense if you are doing a cost comparison relative to renting an aircraft. If you fly enough your cost per hour could be better than a rental.
  20. There are other brands of aviation headsets that will provide better hearing protection than the Bose QC and can be adjusted to fit a child's head. David Clark even makes a smaller headpiece that you can mount on their headsets. My kids have been using David Clark ANR headsets since they were about 4. The fit is good even on small heads and the combined passive and active noise reduction is appropriate for the noise levels.
  21. The regular Bose Quiet Comfort headphones weren't designed for general aviation noise levels. They don't provide as much noise attenuation as the aviation specific headsets.
  22. When it happened to me I was already at a reliever airport and they tried to talk me into going to a larger airport where they had fire crews on the field. I politely declined.
  23. That is exactly what I did. I kept reminding myself not to make a bad situation worse.
  24. Decreasing your airspeed to stop the prop on final is probably not a good idea.
  25. Most are just too long to fit in the cargo area of a short body Mooney. I did buy a cheap one at my destination once.
