  1. How about the light Allison they use on the P210 silver eagle? Lighter than a continental and 450hp with reverse.
  2. I’ll try the breaker, but even with the master off it shouldn’t It fall down?
  3. Sidewinder is the same problem, if the tire is wet, forget it.
  4. Do you remember what the cost was to send them in? When I go through the logs, they seem to be sent in muiltple times. The aircraft has 1350TT and the last time they were sent in was at 500 hours. Seems like it may have skipped a gear on the worm drive, still goes in and out, just not all the way. Any way to disassemble and move it a tooth on the worm drive?
  5. Any one have experience with the electric Precise Flight Speed Brakes? I have the right wing not fully retracted. It’s roughly up 1/4”. The aircraft is a 2007 M20TN 31-046. I can press it down a little and it doesn’t move much, I’ve tried lube, and taking it apart then chickened out part way on the dissembling.
  6. I just had and issue in the hinge itself on my long body. My MSC was able to source a new hinge from Mooney for under $100 a side. As long as I have owned the plane I have noticed a vibration in the floor, it was getting worse then I notice one day it went away when the gear went down. Now the vibration is slight but still there, no more adjustment in the rod linkage but has the slightest play in the connecting rod ends. I’m going to have the rod ends replaced when I get back to my MSC. On a better note, I think I picked up 4-5 kts tightening the nose gear doors. I noticed a long body on the ramp so I went and check it out, way more sloppiness than mine ever was. Maybe a common problem..? The other doors were composite, and my are aluminum. Serial number says our planes are 67 part.
  7. Still logging the turbine PIC time? 1/10th
  8. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and stained underwear, thankfully I was in a Baron 55, thing was a tank.
  9. The twin Diamond that gets beat by a 60 year old twin Comanche regarding useful load, speed and range?
  10. You must have never flown a Cirrus, they do wow. I would recommend flying one without engaging the autopilot, you’ll see. I’ll say cirrus is a better company, not a better product. Everyone has an opinion, not saying you are wrong. Speed isn’t the only aspect, range is the biggest strength. Here is my flight yesterday, I took 71 gallons, I had 31 remaining. No Cirrus or Diamond could carry two people, and light bags that distance non stop. Certainly not using 71 gallons https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N98FL
  11. Mooney will never be profitable building 20-30 planes a year. They have a superior product, but not enough capital to gear up production or a serious sales strategy. I had the idea, find some folks that love the product and a chunk of free time during the year. Mooney gives them a new acclaim and $2000 expense account and their job is to cold call, doctors, small business owners, attorneys, real estate folks, etc. The salesperson would make commission, and get to fly around in a new plane, guys with some sales skills would be lining up for the opportunity. With a little homework you can find out who is departing IFR and where they are going, target the cirrus guy. Show up at a fly in. All you would have to do is get them in it. It will sell itself.
  12. I use Greg at Troutdale, no complaints or sales tax.
  13. Similar experience with the GRS 77 AHRS in the G1000, in 13 years, 1300 hours the unit has been replaced twice. And it drives everything, moving map, attitude, autopilot, flight computer, heading indicator. When it failed on me, I was down to mag compass and the backup on the far side of the panel. The iPad was handy.
  14. If you ever witness a gear up recovery, the ones I’ve seen do the least damage is lift gently by the motor mount. Top cowl off, two guys on the tail. YouTube has a video of a Mooney getting picked up by the wing root, not pretty.
  15. I’ve never had a bad dealing with Chief, but aircraft spruce has always provided world class service.
  16. Definitely check the gear doors like others mentioned. I noticed a vibration that would come and go, never caused noticeable yaw. Mine wasn’t fitted well and fluttered until the front hinge broke and peeled back and made a mess that cost $3K.
  17. I did it 2 years ago on my Acclaim, if you need shorter takeoff, better climb, it’s a worthy modification. If you are traveling I don’t think it’s beneficial. More fuel, less range and efficiency.
  18. Off the top of my head lower 225F ish. If I have the extra fuel I’ll add a little power. I’ve tried HVAC foil tape on a 1/3 of each inter cooler. Works well until descend into PHX. I left PHX with a great tail wind winter of 2017, when I leveled off and leaned the G1000 was showing Anchorage with almost legal reserve. I have standard tanks, 102, but if I park and fill with the nose inclined, I can almost squeeze 107.
  19. I was walking around the ramp 6 weeks ago.... FIKI..... this baby was heavy. I bet it flew like a champ. The problem I have this time of year at low power LOP is keeping my cylinders warm enough to stay in the green. Nice Flight, I’ve said it before, no other piston can do what the acclaim does.
  20. Hello I bought it direct from Commonwealth Aircraft Sales in Virginia representing BofA. Harper, the gentleman I dealt with was actually I thought a straight shooter. He didn’t know much about it. It was an as-is sale and mentioned it many times. I made an offer accounting for the risk of not being able to start it or remove an inspection panel and went back and forth for a couple days and settled on a price. I wired the money and was told the paperwork would be ready on a certain day. I showed up at the California maintenance shop and waited for 2 days. I think the shop was not getting anything for their troubles other than maybe tie down rent. It would be interesting to hear your story on trying to purchase. Andrew
  21. Hello Don Good to know you are familiar with 98FL, known to me as Foxy Lady. I spoke with the original owner before I bought it. I got a lot of good info before I made my offer to the bank. After speaking with the previous owner, I found him to be a stand up guy, he took the time to share the issues the plane had and was not disgruntle at all, it seemed to be a voluntary repo. You are also correct about Palo Alto being a tricky strip and putting it into a flying club was I think the last chance to justify owning it. I have had Foxy Lady into 1800’ one time, very light and I would not do it again. You are correct, Speed is everything. I get tremendous enjoyment and functionality out of my aircraft and am an advocate for Mooney and the Acclaim. Andrew
  22. I wouldn’t call a nose gear collapse substantial damage. When I was shopping for my Acclaim, most had prop strikes. Mine had three of them. Let’s face it, most people buying a new acclaim are low time, high income. When you have the money to buy the best, you buy the best. Hopefully they can get enough training or experience before their skills are tested. I think the seller will miss this Acclaim, it’s almost jet speeds with $5k annuals, $3k insurance, and an operating cost of $120 an hour of fuel. I can go Seattle to Phoenix in 4:30 with 30 gallons left in the tank. I can’t think of one other piston that could make any of that work. I imagine the delta guys bought it to flip, lots of meat left on this one. Watch the new advertisement written correctly like waas, ads-B and many other things not mentioned. If I didn’t have mine I would have been a player to $340k. I have drooled over this acclaim since I first saw it. The paint job was breathtaking in person. Consider me an unpaid spokesperson. Sold for 1/3 the cost of a new one that you can’t get right now. Does everything the same, useful load and speed. Nice discount for 1200 hrs and minor damage history.
  23. $272k, that’s so cheap. I wonder if it met reserve. I did hear that it had an A/C problem yesterday. Someone got a screaming deal, and now that Mooney is not producing the 16 or so a year, limited supply might drive the prices up.
  24. I assumed filing IFR left the paper trail. I doubt a private entity like an FBO would turn over customer information. I usually think government employees are the lazy type, driving around the ramp with a notepad or logging onto flightaware seems like the easiest way to find “tax evaders.”
  25. My concern is I filed IFR out of an airport 4-5 times for a 3 week period. Not my homebase or state. I get a letter in the mail from the state demanding sales tax/ use tax or file an exemption. If you ignore them they can lien your aircraft. Maybe they saw my plane on the ramp, maybe they got on flightaware. I don’t want every greedy government chasing me for sales tax/use tax because I land in their state. Government is out of control. ADS-B is another tool they will use to chase people.
