But that would make sense! -Matt

When were they installed? I bet the factory used them. Unless they were changed, I would have left them alone. I use the same grease in the mooney as Citation uses in their manual. All of the major wheel shops use SHC-100 grease. Many use A/S 5&6 for their bearings. I don't like how it separates and spits out when it's 110°. A/S22 is approved. It holds up better than 5&6. Best, -Matt

Love a name tag too. I'd be up for a get together wedensday/Thursday. I Didn't want to push too hard for a Monday arrival from CA. I need to work this SAT, so it pushed the departure a day. Thanks, -Matt

Vintage E model (&C?) CG creeps toward rear limit
MB65E replied to Bob_Belville's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Bob, I personally used your excel sheet when I did my W&B re-weigh. Thanks for providing it. That said, you have THE most complete W&B I have ever worked with. I would say your airplane might be lighter than your W&B says it is, or all of ours are heavier than we think they are. I personally have never weighed my toe bar, flash light, but have weighed mine with 6qts of oil. I'm at 916UL last checked. I'll look again before I tanker up for Oshkosh. Fun stuff to play with, but I wouldn't loose sleep over it. Aft is fast! Hope to finally meet at OSH! fly safe, -Matt -
Whatever happened to "Fuel critical"?? I've used it once during a long hold when the airport was closed for the Thunderbirds. No paperwork. -Matt
-
That would be VAP!! 36 has that tree line Cant wait to see it Dave. Good luck! -Matt

Looks really nice. Who stripped it and what stripper did they use. I wouldn't mind painting it myself, but the facilities are hard to come by. Thanks for saving it from the smelter. -Matt

Buy a ticket on Quantis, and check the crates? It's worked for me in the past. The ailerons are no longer than a snowboard. I'd even offer to carry them for you but a round trip ticket might throw the budget off a tad. UPS FEDEX Local shipping broker would be the best bet. That way they can handle all of the paperwork. Contact your best GulfStream buddy... Good luck. -Matt

World Record or just another average flight in a Mooney?
MB65E replied to PMcClure's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Impressive 460k! My mom and dad love their '13 Passat TDI, they live in IL, an emission state, and are waiting to see what VW does with the buy back etc. Until then they really love it. Those earlier TDIs were great, I've been told they can run on Jet A. Post 2002 they changed the pumps and it needs cleaner gas. (So I'm told) I'll try to be efficient on the way to OSH and see what the old E does. Might actually save te fuel receipts. However, All bets are off when the weather kicks in. -Matt -
OP- best of luck. Hopefully the corrosion is only localized. RL, that's pretty. Too bad not a single weld on a factory mooney looks that nice! Every year I practice at OSH with the Lincon/Miller guys until they kick me out. Might buy a small set up one year. -Matt

VAC for me too. I'd like to park next to a few Swifty Friends. Hope to see a good turn out in VAC with everyone! I'll save a spot next to mine for another old M20 if needed. -Matt

Hang in there Stein!! Keep your ear to the ground. Each location takes years to figure out who the A listers are and who you want to work on your airplane. When I left CHI, PHX, then LA, I had to start all over with all my go to contacts for airplanes. Welder, Paint, good guys to listen to, etc. It takes time. Stick with it. Here is an awesome place to start! Might check out the Wright Patterson area for some AF techs. All the best! -Matt

330ES. And Possibly upgrade to a record player! Pink Floyd on vinyl is still amazing!! Good luck with MAC, they Missed several ADs when our airplane was annulled there prior to purchase. Not impressive. -Matt

Thanks TA, 4 annuals a year with in each cycle after March 31st. I plan my annuals for work to meet the requirement. It's a bit of a catch if you don't pay attention. 8 signatures on 337 forms. Or 8 hours of "approved training" each year. Approvals must be coded by the FAA as approved classes at each renewal in March. Odd years renewal... Most factory courses or training material is approved as an FAA renewal material. Its suprising to me as well how many DOM's in Flight departments are not IA's anymore. It's not too bad to maintain, but the ROI is getting harder to justify. -Matt
-
Wow! There are only 59 IA's including myself in the LAX FSDO system! Half of those probably haven't signed a logbook in years! -Matt

Go do your T/w endorsement. For the value it will teach you a lot. You'll pick up on things post T/W you never noticed before. Do this while working on the commercial requirements at your own pace. Highly reccomend Acro training as well. The multi, float, and Heli are stupid expensive if you don't have a use for them. However, the Heli and float training are equally as fun as the Acro, possibly more so. I got the biggest smiles out of the float flying. The most sweat loss out of the Heli flying. -Matt

Solid Work JC!! -Matt

Talk to JOHN or James at Glendale aero service at GEU. They probably know the airplane pretty well already. Looks like you might have tried them. There are a few older M20s that they have done a lot of work on. If your plan is to keep it there hopefully they can fit you in. -Matt

Hartzell has not always allowed .032 to be used if I remember? (10years?) Mac to Lyc-McCauley doesn't even list a diameter in their install manual. Same 1/2 in stud/nut combo Hartzell uses. Since hartzell and MT both allowed .032 I wasn't going to try .041. Thanks Clarence! -Matt
-
Hi Russ, not on that model of installation. However new washers must be installed every time the prop is removed & reinstalled. They are not standard washers, they are manufactured by the prop co. -Matt

I've met the owner. Nice Guy. He did some Becker radio install/work on an Ex military airplane for me. Not his fault, but Beckers Suck!! I would have recommended another product, but space was limited. He was responsive to my emails and calls. Best, -Matt

Check the rod end for ware at the aileron/elevator attachment at the back of the yoke shaft. That's about all I can think of. Dynamic balance might solve it too. You should do that anyway. Try to Have Fun with your IR. Popping up on top is one of my favorites things to see. -Matt

Advice Needed - First Flight with baby and spouse
MB65E replied to Seth's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Small collapsible cooler. Sun shades for the little one to prop up in the rear cabin. Sunglasses if she'll ware them. My girls have these "Babyaviator" sunglasses they ware. They still ware them a 6&3. Check your rear seat mic's/headset ops... My rear mic's were inop on our first flight. 12v power for your wife's goodies if needed. Have fun enjoy!! -Matt -
Nice clean log entries on eBay Too. -Matt

Morning Alan, Happy 4th! I adjusted mine to finally track straight. The book calls for a bit of right rudder to be rigged in. It could use about 2x more rudder with a static takeoff. See if it tracks straight rolling with No power. Then maybe go after the steering rod end adjustment. -Matt
