Depending on your engine mount, you can hook a hoist to the engine, take off two mount bolts and tilt the engine forward to get more access to the back of the engine. brian
-
Going directly to the engine is not a good idea, if you have a failure of the servo or the lines to it you will create a major manifold leak in your engine. That is going to affect power and performance. the FAA will not approve that modification because of that. BTW, that type of mod would require FAA approval. Brian

I am not sure how many of us on Mooneyspace have actually contracted COVID, I was defiantly one of the unlucky ones! mine started out as pretty benign, just mild flu symptoms. By the end of the first week I was in the emergency room, they pumped me full of steroids', magnesium and several other things. the next couple of days had me thinking I was on the mend and would be back to normal. then I went down hill, I apparently went into a mental fog, spent most of my time sleeping, and although i was up moving around I do not really remember about 4 days. my doctors put me on a Z pack a week after my emergency room visit, and I probably would have ended up in the hospital had I not come out of my fog. once I did I improved every day, I am still dealing with the pneumonia but finally able to get back to normal routines. The funny thing about contracting the Virus is I'm not exactly sure how I got it. I was pretty much isolated preceding it, the only place I was outside of work was when my wife and I went out for dinner (right time frame). Thankfully no one I was in contact with got the virus from me especially my wife, I couldn't imagine both of us being sick at the same time. especially knowing how much she was doing just taking care of me, I am surprised we do not have to replace the washer and dryer. Dynon AP, Need as much help as possible!!!!

I did one better and offered to do the engineering and installation with them holding the STC, they shot that down and said they were too busy with the other aircraft they were working on. Brian -
My aircraft is a 1962 C model, when my step cable broke I debated just removing it and closing the hole (minor alteration) but my wife uses the step constantly and was frustrated with me for not fixing it, I had it locked in the up position. I ended up putting in @takair electric step conversion. it is easy to install and drops a few oz of weight after I remove the old cabling and crank. as for the speed penalty, closing the hole would be a net zero, but as stated earlier on my aircraft keeping the step down is very noticeable. I never checked to see exactly how much speed I lost but the trim is defiantly out and i would spend part of the flight trying to figure out what was wrong until i realized I forgot the step. (I do not use the step so I keep it up, my wife does so I put it down for her and forget to pull it up afterwards) Brian

Mooney down near Newton, UT
orionflt replied to TTaylor's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
At one point I was flying a number of different aircraft, I was in my Mooney practicing loss of engine on takeoff. I was trying to determine my minimum altitude above the ground that I could make the runway if I lost an engine on takeoff. During one of the attempts I pulled the mixture back instead of the prop, made my circle back to the field looking at alternate landing areas. As I finished my turn and I determined that the field was could not be made and there were no safe landing areas I pushed the prop in and moved over to apply throttle. This is when I realized that I had actually pulled the mixture and not the prop. That realization came when the engine surged back to life. It was a non incident but it had the potential to be something serious if the engine hadn’t fired back up. made me realize that even if you give yourself plenty of safety margins when your practicing emergencies, you can still end up in a bad situation. Depends on the tester, it could have shown -12.1v and the- wasn’t noticed there is also a circuit breaker for the starting circuit, check all your breakers to see if any are out. I doubt the battery is negatively charged, but start with the obvious stuff before ripping deep into the systems Brian
-
As a follow on, no you probably didn’t hurt the mags, and depending on your charger if it sensed a reverse hook up it should have shut down, but cheap battery tenders don’t have the sensing circuits. I would suspect you have another electrical issue that may or may not have been caused by the reversed leads. Brian
-
Check to see if the positive and negative are now reversed on the battery after being on the charger for three weeks. brian

I would love to, unfortunately he retired and is no longer available. luckily I haven't had a need to find a new one. Brian

It's not to hard to fabricate new pieces. when I redid my baffles I sent mine to a welder who did a great job fixing mine. in fact there was very little distortion from the heat and once it was cleaned up and powder coated they looked new. Brian

they did NOT have rings until after 64' if the fuel selector has been replaced with a newer style, they may have retroed the trim ring to fit. Brian
-
62 to maybe 64 did not rings. the carpet was just bound around the hole for the selector. Brian

Dealing with oil leak, possibly from crankcase seam?

I would swing over to help you, but with me bouncing between here and Virginia I have very little time to run to Philly. If it's not fixed by next friday, let me know and i will try to fly over to help you out. Brian -
Since my plane is now is Salisbury I went over to KGED for fuel the other week and ate lunch at the restaurant, the food was good, people friendly and fuel was cheap. I highly recommend it! Let me know if/when you do, I may be able to meet up with you there. Brian

lycoming injectors tend to be pretty well matched so you may not see as much of an improvement as you would a continental. in fact I usually recommend flying the Gami profile with the original injectors to see what your spread is prior to purchasing the Gami's. if the spread is close replacing them becomes a waste of money. There are a lot of FBO's that will waive fees for small GA if you ask, I have even gone to airports run by Signature and they have volunteered to waive the fees with out me saying anything more then I was just stopping for fuel/lunch/pick up some one, ect... Chester county on the other hand has always been bad IMO. the first couple times I flew in there (before Signature) they were charging fees. small single engine were easily waived but they would hit you for twins and above, now it just seems to be worse and I'm not sure if it's really Signature or the airport. I usually try to avoid the airports with the larger FBO's because I know their rates are higher and they charge fees, but most of them do provide excellent service when I do use them. BTW, I avoid Chester county just like most in the area. the Hangar Cafe probably had to close their doors due to so many of the local pilots boycotting the airport due to the FBO/airport and the crazy fees.

Our C-130 picked up the mars rover the other week to take that to Kennedy for launch to Mars, we have been transporting the director of NASA ans some others to and from Kennedy in the B-200 for the launch on the 27th https://mars.nasa.gov/news/8677/air-deliveries-bring-nasas-perseverance-mars-rover-closer-to-launch/ Brian -
I’m ready for mine!!! Can’t wait to see the performance. Brian

@steingar we should get clarification. Does the handle spring back with out moving the flaps, or do the flaps move but come right back up? if the handle springs, then @N201MKTurbo suggestion is where to look. Brian
