Happened to me at Oshkosh 2016. First time I had experienced this. Kept sticking my fuel tester in there hoping to dislodge whatever got stuck. Someone came over with a bucket but thank goodness after about 30 actuation it stopped. Replaced both when I got home. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I don't know. I have not seen this spinner personally other than the picture I posted. My buddy lives in Orlando (I live in Jacksonville). I did not ask him if the spinner was making any kind of contact with the blade. I saw the other posts where that was an issue but did not think to ask.

Definitely don't pass up the opportunity to buy a good airplane just because you don't have a hangar yet. As others have said, definitely put a nice cover on it mainly over the cabin area (not sure I would bother with the wings). Wash/wax often while outside. While a hangar will maintain the condition of your paint job I could paint my airplane every 5 years with the money I would save if I kept it outside. HOWEVER, paint is not the only thing that degrades when outside. Water/moisture finds it way into unexpected places. Heat degrades avionics and breaks down interior plastics, leather, fabric. It's also harder to work on your plane without a hangar. All that being said, get you plane if you find a good deal, protected as best you can while outside, and get your name on the hangar waiting list.

Alex, I noticed in the pictures you posted the top mounted strobe. I did not realize you also had the bottom strobe that came standard with your plane. I guess the previous owner really wanted to be seen! I would eliminate one of those if it was my plane.

Got a question here. I've seen several Mooneys here with the vertical stab VOR antenna whiskers pointing forward like in the first picture above. In mine the point back. Is there a correct way? Mine work just fine but would like to know if there is a difference.

Yes, I remember reading about a crazy Russian who flew his stock C to Europe. He had little margin for error. I believe I heard a few years later than his luck ran out Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I would be concerned that the rain-x on the prop will eventually end up on the windscreen. Rain-x is not friendly to acrylic plastics as it causes crazing with prolonged use. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Actually read a paper on this a couple of months ago. The miniaturization of solid states accelerometers has gotten so good ( including accuracy) the the article reasoned it would be no more than a couple of years before inexpensive but highly accurate INS in a chip become available. The article stated they would first show up on our smart phones initially as GPS assist or replacement in case of signal loss but with a number of additional applications. I think this will likely be the answer to GPS backup. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

A police officer friend in Orlando needs a spinner for an M20C. If any one has an extra spinner they would like to sell please let me know. He is not a Mooneyspacer yet, but he will be joining soon. His came apart today. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Actually, Cedar Key is in the west coast of Florida north of Tampa. Very small town. Only one Taxi driver (Judy), and she monitors the Unicom frequency with a portable radio. If she hears you she will often ask if you need a ride into town from the airport. It's only a one mile ride or so to the center of the island(waterfront) where all the restaurants are but in the summer when it's hot it's better than walking. Lots of oyster farming. I've been known to make an oyster run to CDK for a big party (only a one hour flight from my house). Nice runway but only 2300 feet long. Inevitably every couple of years someone comes in hot and runs off the runway into the water. I like it because it's in an parts of the state with fairly low population and it's quiet most of the time as compared to the Florida Keys. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Awesome Alex, glad you are back in the air. She looks great! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Alex, is the shop Central Florida Avionics? Hoping to revive this thread a little. Looking to install either a 430w or GTN 650 + transponder to get ads-b out + Flightstream 210. Looking for places in Florida mainly but Georgia is also doable. Thanks to those of you who posted above. Gives me a starting point..

Any PIREP on CE avionics? I'm searching Mooneyspace for PIREPS on Florida/Georgia Avionics shops. Planing an upgrade in January or so. Thanks

Glad to hear it's running again. Sorry I missed KFIN if you went. Weather was great, but was working on my daughter's car all afternoon and got tired. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Cheap way into the ADSB & WAAS IFR GPS LPV club?
Hector replied to tigers2007's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I saw GTN-650 advertised today for $9.7k before Garmin rebates (Sarasota Avionics). If you bought a Garmin transponder to go with it there was a 1k rebate bringing the cost closer to $9k for a new GTN650. The installation cost for a 430W or a GTN-650 I would expect to be about the same so if you buy a used 430w for close to 7k you are only saving a couple of AMUs total and it does not make much sense. This is the predicament I find myself in at the moment except a friend is offering me a 430w for 6k so in my case is more like 3k difference. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
As I was listening to that exchange I began to wonder if her instructions to turn "southbound" instead of "turn left heading 180" was contributing to the confusion. It maybe that for a non-native speaker a generalization like "southbound" just didn't compute. On top of that correcting herself didn't help if the guy was already having trouble understanding her instructions . Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Cool, you're getting there. Just let me know. I'll probably do the Mooney breakfast at KLEE too. Charlestown is a cool town. Your girlfriend will probably dig the historic district. Excellent restaurants too. I use KJZI when I go there. I'll be at SnF too but will probably drive there (my brother in law lives there and I'll be staying with him). He is also a pilot and owns a Cherokee 6. He's a doctor and AME and volunteers at the SnF clinic during the week. I got other friends that fly in too and since I'm usually the only one with a large vehicle I shuttle them into town for dinner and such. You can join us if you like. And talking about Oshkosh, I flew my Mooney there last year and stayed there the whole week, but my brother in law has never taken the Cherokee there and he's already bending my ear about being his copilot for the 2017 pilgrimage. Welcome aboard! Like the post above, tell us a little more about what you expect the "typical" mission will be in your Mooney, that is, what range do you need, how many people most of the time, if you are out west do you need high altitude performance, budget. There will be a Mooney that will meet your mission and transition for you should be no issue. A little more info will help us with recommendations Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
