Well there's always the factory original headset hangers installed: But others have come up with alternate creative options: Some food for thought. And if all else fails, just have em fly on the wing. Saves time on getting in and out.2 points

I collected data on a trip South at the end of July; too bad I didn't think to record CHT & Oil Temp. Note that while I do have the "optional Carb Temp gauge" that I do not have fuel flow, either. Here's what I did headed down: 9000 msl, 57ºF, 30.11 setting 21"/2500, 50ºF ROP 137 mph Indicated => 161.7 mph True This was the trip back north: 10,000 msl, 53ºF, 30.11 setting 20"-/2500 at Peak EGT, 53ºF OAT: 130-133 mph Indicated => 156-159.6 mph True [call it 158] at 50ºF ROP, 56ºF OAT: 135-140 mph Indicated => 162-168 mph True [call it 165] In all cases, I reduce throttle from WOT enough to make the MP needle move slightly, hoping that I am inducing turbulence for improved fuel atomization and a more homogenous fuel/air mixture. I did experiment leaning all the way to rough with varying amounts of Carb Heat, watching the Carb Temp gauge; maximum carb temp rise was about 20ºC, with no noticable smoothing. I did this going both directions. Both legs were loaded the same [me, wife, luggage, 50 gals], putting us ~200 lb. under gross. Book numbers are: 7500 msl, 32ºF 21"/2500, 72.1%, 158 mph gross, 162 mph at 375 lb. under 10,000 msl, 23ºF 20.2"/2500, 53.7%, 161 mph gross, 164 at 375 lb. under 20"/2500, 53.0%, 160 mph gross, 163 at 375 lb. under I ran 30 minutes at peak followed by 33 minutes Rich, but forgot to stick the tank when I landed . . . What does all this mean, other than that my O-360 won't run LOP and I seem to be achieving book speed despite the 3-blade prop out front?1 point

Flew from the Memphis area to Houston yesterday and it was a fine example of flying in the IFR system using all the various weather tools and getting excellent service from ATC. As I got in the northern Louisiana area I got into the weather. Tried to climb to 16,000' to stay above the cloud deck with no luck. Ended up moving down to 14,000' because the temps were too close to icing conditions. Ended up deviating to the west to miss the worst of the weather and there was very little to no lightning in the high precip areas. Tops looked to be around 18,000' and did not have that much energy but lots of rain and would have been very turbulent. Kudos to ATC for their help. They were very accommodating and let me take some pretty significant deviations. Kuods also to XM Weather because it matched very nicely what I saw outside the window and what ATC saw as well on their screens. Works great strategically but I did not try to slip though the two major areas because I would have been in IMC. Attached the Flightaware track. I would note that while it shows me transitioning through some heavy precip just north of Houston. I actually worked around the western side of that weather and did not experience anything more than some rain and some occasional bumps. Then shot the localizer approach into Hooks through a layer around 4,000' with bases around 2,000'.1 point

I made some myself and the trick was keeping the metal from bending due to the weight of the headsets. I screwed the hanger into the ceiling using an existing screw that holds the headliner in place. I'll take a picture later today at my hangar and post it later. I'm very happy how it came out.1 point

Sorry I didn't mention it but I have one. That's how I knew there was no lightning associated with those areas (besides no seeing any and none showing up on XM).1 point

I made headset hangers consisting of 1x4 7071 aluminum strips with a 1/4 hole drilled at one end.Than cover bare aluminum with self stick fuzzy velcrow...bend a slight curve upwards in strip and loosen and remove screw holding visers...the strip is mounted under viser pivot and is free to rotate...headsets are know hanging from visor above glareshield and are safe and out of way....patent applied for,,,,this works awesome if I say so myself..k1 point

this thread is SHAMEFUL AND SEXIST. How do we block this kind of garbage again?1 point

Get a stormscope. I recently navigated through a front with several cells. Nexrad showed a good bit more color on the GTN 750 than was really much concern looking out the window. OTOH, where the stormscope had clusters was black as sin out the window.1 point

Hank, I suspect the speed hit you take with the 3 blade is offset by the other speed mods you have. My numbers are nearly identical to yours, I might even have 1 or 2mph on you. I don't have any speed mods other than the Scimitar 2 blade prop. I plan to try the brake reversal and lower cowl enclosure but haven't got around to it. I would love to hear if anyone on the forum has done a good before and after test of those mods. I think you are right on moving the throttle back for improved fuel atomization. When I'm up at altitude (9-11K) I will leave WOT and lean until I just start to feel the first signs of roughness. Then I pull the throttle back slightly and it usually smooths out before I even see the manifold pressure needle move. Dan1 point

Just go fly the plane, that is the best way to dry it out. I always fly the plane for a few circuits after washing it to blow the water out of all the nooks and crannies.1 point

You are risking the wrath of the hot chick haters! Or was it just blond haters? Or is it exploiting women? This PC stuff is so hard to keep track of...1 point

Thanks Hector. That's the idea...do as much research as I can so when I'm ready to buy, I can ask smart questions and look for the right things when I find the "right" airplane. It will definitely be a Mooney. I'm not looking for any other type.... Talking about buying something that was meticulously maintained by the previous owner.... A couple of years ago, I bought a used motorcycle. When I showed up at the seller's home to look at it, he had next to it in the garage, a notebook documenting every update, every oil change, every tire change, etc since the bike was new. It took me about one nanosecond to figure out that he really had taken good care of it.... I bought it right there! Im on my seventh motorcycle and that was the best buy ever. Somebody is taking good care of my future Mooney.....somewhere.1 point

I got excited because I really thought this was going to be a discussion about flying LOP.1 point
