I knew your airplane was modified. I was curious to know if the added 10 HP changed the settings much compared to a stock 252. Is 36" your max MP to achieve the 220 hp?

They were in just about everything British: Morris, BSA, Norton, Triumph, MG, Jaguar, Rover, Mini, Austin, and probably a bunch of others.

Taxi / Landing Light ETA Combo Switch
Bolter replied to RoundTwo's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Ovations have split left/right switches for the taxi lights, and a split switch for the landing lights. So you can control each bulb in each wing separately. Is that what you want? If you ignore the labeling you could wire the split switch to be taxi and landing on one side. Schematic with p/n's below, plus pic of similar switch from interweb search -
Don’t forget that most autopilots have a limitation on the maximum fuel imbalance. It’s 15 gal. for my GFC 500.

I have a prop on my 231 that I might be willing to part with depending on value - @231MJ any idea what a serviceable, 500hr SPOH prop would be worth to you?

Can someone point me to a model that has a two-sided combo switch for separate landing and taxi lights? Or even better, a part number? There are so many permutations in the IPC, I can’t sort it out with any certainty. Thanks!

@jlunsethThanks for the detailed explanation and for sharing your experience. That’s very helpful information, I'm going to try and find a combination that makes my engine happy. I really appreciate you breaking down the reasoning behind your settings and the methodology you use—it gives me a much clearer picture of how to approach this myself. I'm sure I'll have more questions at some point but this really points me in the right direction and I can probably figure a lot out from here. Thanks again!

The part number is printed on the side of the switch.

There are lots of ways to accomplish beamforming, but in general I agree with you. A "phased array" is a subset of beamforming antenna types, but I think starlink does more than that since phased arrays are kind of old-school these days. FWIW, even WiFi has been doing electronic beamforming (usually 2-D) for more than a decade.
-
Yes, I did more searches and found the truth and deleted my post. Quite an accomplishment on their part. Especially for the price. The military antennas I used to work on cost many orders of magnitude more.
-
My A&P would like to replace the microswitch does anyone have a part #?

Well 'um- do I dare say- don't use Siri? (She's a Trollope anyway :-)

252 to Encore Conversion "shopping list"
Aerodon replied to N177MC's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
BAS Parts has got an M20M in for disassembly. This would be a good source of encore parts. But get the drawings out and make sure everything matches. The only parts I had to get from the factory were the gear doors. That might be a showstopper nowadays. Aerodon -
I don't know if there is a difference between 'electronic phased array antenna' and 'electronically-steered beam' or 'steerable antenna' but in my mind these are all basically the same thing. https://www.starlink.com/na/support/article/07621adc-9a6f-8f94-6f27-361a78cce37d says "Both Starlinks are electronic phased array antennas, meaning they can track the signal from satellites overhead without the need to physically move." https://portal.powertec.com.au/equipment/it-networking/network-devices/starlink-mini-dish-rev1#:~:text=Like its predecessors%2C Starlink Mini, ethernet reduces the weather rating). says "Starlink Mini is a satellite transceiver which uses digital beamformers and an Electronic Steerable Antenna to track and maintain connectivity with LEO satellites"

Never owned an MG for that very reason!!!!

Mooney Lycoming riveted turbo v clamp.
cliffy replied to flyboym20m's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I would like to look into how the manufacturer sells the part and the middleman markup BUT I presume the manufacturer sets a high price because - He has to trace the part from the metal composition in the sheets he punches the bands from all the way to final inspection and be able to go back and trace any issues that come up. Traceability and inspection along with record keeping are what separate aviation parts from commercial ones. We can also blame the airplane manufacturer for specifying that ONE part with no alternatives. @MikeOH My point being that its a closed box that we are locked into with no way out but what we see. Small market locked into declining suppliers on legally binding rules. Its easy to see $$$$$$ in that environment. There is no alternative- pay to play Unfortunately this is why our segment of aviation (mid 60s to 80s) is going away. What will happen in 25 years when we have a few thousand LESS Mooneys in the field due to attrition? What will the supplier market look like then? As I've said before- "We wreck'm faster than we build them (cause we ain't building any more). The market will only get worse as time goes on and we try to keep antiques flying. Just a point of reference- there are auto shops charging $250/hr to work on 60s to 80s cars just because of the parts supply issues. I also know of one very well known aircraft shop that raises their rates high enough just to lower their exposure to "complainers"- read that "cheap bastards". Its just the way our world is. I know of good honest shops at a fair price but even they don't control the parts pricing. Unfortunately we are stuck with what we have. Complain all we want but it won't change the dynamics at all. -
I'm agreeing with you here, but adding more emphasis. It's not just 'suspicious', it's an outright falsehood. You can't 'generate' or 'create' cold using energy the way you can make heat. All you can do is concentrate heat somewhere else. There is no way to provide power to something in an enclosed environment and have it cool the whole environment. You either move heat to somewhere else, or you generate heat.

could I get one too?

The problem is that there were so many spam posts it made it annoying to find the real posts. There isn't anything in the spam posts for us to click on, they are not trying to scam us. They are trying to scam the AI, so when you ask Siri to call Ethiad Airlines to change your seat, it calls their scam number and not the real one.

As was said in the movie "My Cousin Vinny" - "so what's the problem?" You want free-you watch ads (some of them bad) You don't want ads (and want to support a good website) you pay the freight. So - what's the problem! :-) :-) Likewise, spam ads are really not too difficult to see. I'm careful what I open and I haven't been hit by mass spammers in a long while. Could happen sure but again I don't open things I don't recognize. Don't respond and give them a live email to sell. Got an email from a broker in a city I have never done business in just this week wanting to go over accounts. You think I called him on the number he emailed - hell no. I called the main office in another state to verify who he was even though he used all the right brokerage names in the email. Turns out he was working for the correct brokerage and was assigned to do the call but I verify everything on stuff like that.

The 12V receptacle in my plane is placarded 5A max and gets uncomfortably warm at that load. The battery pack removes the issue and makes one less cord slung through the cabin. It also charges phones and ipads in the back seat and was less than $100.
-
It’s certainly easy to open the connector and look at it. However, the CPC connectors are high quality and Mooney uses the solid machined 4-way crimp pins. I had the Kulite fuel pressure transducer fail (read zero) and verified it with resistance measurements. The EDM uses a different transducer.

Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?
redbaron1982 replied to gabez's topic in General Mooney Talk
That make sense. I always had a great experience with Mike as well as his team at Savvy. But it was kind of puzzling to me why he (or Savvy) had said anything. We know GAMI does not allow anyone involved in the process to disclose any information publicly.
