  1. Past hour
  2. Reports indicated that the PIC had a pilot certificate dated in 2024. Does the FAA database actually indicate when an individual initially received a certificate or rating? I'm devastated that the pilot attempted the impossible turn. Maybe the FAA needs to refine their PTS to hinder this all too common event? 30-years ago my CFI's made it quite clear that, on takeoff, anything in my field of view is all I have if "it" were to happen.
  3. Today
  4. Currently, the SkyVoice Glassy Guide 400 is designed for external mounting on an access panel or inspection plate. The system consists of two main components: The RADAR unit (HMR 400) is installed on the aircraft’s inspection plate or access panel, pointing downward. The SkyVoice unit is installed behind the instrument panel, out of sight. Since there’s no screen, it doesn’t need to be panel-mounted.
  5. I had the low voltage alert and Alt field breaker popping mid flight a couple of times now. I haven't seen the issue on the ground and always seem to happen in the air. I've reviewed the different posts here on the subject to try to get a better understanding of what's going on. My next step is to follow the troubleshooting guide from Zeftronics (got the R15300 model). I also downloaded the voltage monitoring data from my JPI 900 and that's what it looks like when it happened. I thought I would share and get your thoughts. During this flight, the Alt Field popped where the Amps go to zero, then put it back in but popped right after again. During this flight, I got the low voltage alert but the Alt Field breaker didn't pop.
  6. Yes. A ratcheting crimper with the right jaw for the connector is all it takes, but sometimes that seems to be asking too much.
  7. It just means they're not useful to anybody who wants to use a different vent.
  8. You’re right, I never throw parts at it. That’s the biggest reason I do my owner assist. Too many times a well meaning mechanic replaced a good part.
  9. Yeah, pretty sure.
  10. Lots of good ideas where to start. Thanks. I’ll report back.
  11. Are you sure you have an alternator? The 65 M20E was originally equipped with a generator. Your symptoms would be normal for a generator below 1500 rpm with the landing light on.
  12. I just had my J into Carson City a couple weeks ago, it was HOT. Could definitely feel the difference in performance. Tahoe is a beautiful neck of the woods to fly around. I sure wish I had a turbo.
  13. I went through this recently, seems it’s often due to a bad crimp job, had my avionics buddy come over with his super fancy crimper, cut the old ends off, stripped, crimp crimp, problem fixed.
  14. Pretty common for the 231 in that location. I’ve had my old one welded a few times. One of the times it burned a hole through my lower cowling. A couple annuals ago I found a new one and took off my old one had it welded and now keep it on the shelf as a spare. It’s not going to get better plus with an exhaust leak, carbon monoxide is always a concern. I’d find someone that can repair it.
  15. Hello fellow Mooney drivers! The Mooney Summit is upon us. September 12-13 in Tampa (KTPF). Registration is open: https://www.mooneysummit.com/, there's also a room block at a discounted rate, look for the link on the website. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

  16. RG-400 is ... RG-400 honestly where you need quality is the connectors . You will likely need a 90 degrees TNC connector for the GPS Make sure you take your time and do quality crimping
  17. We're about a month out! Get in there and register! See you in Tampa!
  18. I plan on using eyeball vents from Spruce for consistency.
  19. Thanks for the suggestion - I'll incorporate a more flush design and see how it fits with the headliner, I have a trip planned this week and didn't want to take apart the headliner panel just yet.
  20. In 18 years of ownership we have repaired the field wire terminal 3 times. The vibration causes the wires to break at the crimp. In 2020 when we installed the rebuilt engine I coiled up a small loop of extra field wire at the alternator and secured it such that there was minimal movement between the wire loop and the terminal. I installed a new terminal and decided I would just install a new terminal in years divisible by 5. It looked good this year but I replaced it anyway. Good for another 5 years. I think the field wire terminal is the weakest link on the M20J
  21. + Agree an LED is the way to go, but what you have is not normal and should be sorted regardless. Does turning on your pitot heat do the same? It should be a comparably large electical load I think? Yes or no might help trouble shoot where the issue is. I'll leave it to the folks with more expertise on how electrons move about to figure this one out
  22. At last annual I/we installed a new WAT Parmethus PAR 46 landing light along with LED wing tip lights and I am very happy with the result. However, I must say that in the 18 years that I have owned 1TF the GE landing light has only been replaced once, and that was about 15 years ago. That being said, the WAT was expensive, but the LED is so much brighter and I’m happy with my purchase.
  23. I went for the AeroLites which was $145 at the time (7 years ago) and had my A&P do a 337 since they are technically not FAA/PMA approved.
  24. For the win! Never had covers on mine when I bought; didn't even know they were a thing until MS educated me
  25. I used to have a couple. Need to dig through my thumb drives.
  26. Post your videos somewhere online, then paste a link into your thread here. Mooneyspace does not host videos. I'd like to see this video!!
  27. Thank you. I have gone ahead and sent them an email.
