DonMuncy Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I have an IPad 3 with a GNS 5870 for GPS georeferencing. Today, on a flight, the GNS 5870 blue tooth light kept blinking, indicating it was "searching" for a connection. When I got home, I hooked it back up again, and finally the blue light came on solid, indicating the connection was established. The "location" indication on the IPad (a pulsating blue dot when on the ground), comes on when the IPad powers up, but disappears after a few minutes. It will reappear if you reboot the IPad, but goes out again a few minutes later. Then in a bit, it may come on again, only to disappear again. Because the problem showed two symptoms, I believe it likely is the GNS 5780 rather than the IPad. Has anyone else seen these symptoms using this combination.. Quote
N4044N Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 I use the GNS 5870 with both an iPad 3 and an iPad Mini. The Bluetooth connection has always worked flawlessly. The only problem I have encountered has been with the GNS 5870 refusing to power down after the flight is over. No matter how many swipes I give it, or how slow or fast I swipe, it remains on. I just have to leave it on until it runs itself down, and then recharge it. Quote
Marauder Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 Don -- I couldn't tell from your message if you tried a hard reset (holding the home/power buttons until it shuts off) or just a powering off of the Apple product (holding the same buttons until the red slider comes up) (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/restarting-or-rebooting-an-ios-device/). Bluetooth can be finicky and I find when I have connection problems (like when I use my Bose Bluetooth headset with the iPad), a full reset corrects everything. Also, I would make sure your software is up to date on the i device. Sometimes, a new revision corrects random issues. Quote
midlifeflyer Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 I can't tell from the post: Are you sure that your turned bluetooth on in settings and confirmed the connection there before using it? I ask because of the symptoms you describe. For example, in ForeFlight, the blue dot will appear with no GPS based on WiFi triangulation alone but it disappears soon after. First step I take when connecting my external - whether the GNS which I happily used for 2 years or the Stratus I use now - is to confirm the connection. Not with a blue dot in the app but in the iPad's Settings app. Quote
