flyboy0681 Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 I'm flying to Sarasota this weekend and would like to know if there are any FBO's that are recommended. I'll be there for two hours at most, so tie-down cost should be considered. 1 Quote
laytonl Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 I believe I used Dolphin Aviation last year when I was in Sarasota. The FBO was great, but don't remember costs. Lee Quote
kris_adams Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 App Jetcenter was a pleasant experience in Jan 2013 for me. Their facility isn't terribly "fancy" but it was easy to get in and out. Quote
David Mazer Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 I've tried Rectrix and Dolphin. I find Dolphin more convenient but the costs are about the same. Dolphin hasn't ever charged me a ramp fee but that may have changed and the only time I used Rectrix I was buying some fuel. Quote
FloridaMan Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Dolphin has never charged me and will let you take the car for an hour or two if you need it. Very nice folks. If you do take the car, I think it's courteous to buy a few gallons of fuel. Quote
WilliamR Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 I come home to SRQ about every six weeks or so. Rectrix and APP as a rule don't charge ramp fees. I've jumped back and forth between regularly using Rectrix and APP a couple times over the last 10 years. In the last year I have settled with APP. I gave Rextrix a try and was happy several years agos and stayed for a while. They had good fuel rates and no ramp fee. APP now matches them. I went back to APP because I got tired of waiting 30 - 45 minutes for fuel even when calling 20 minutes in bound. I get it, I spend a fraction of what a jet spends. I'm the lowest priority. Since switiching back to APP they have simply not missed a beat. The fuel is there when asked and a car waiting on the ramp. Now the FBO desk girls are way hotter at Rectrix and the facility is a little nicer than APP. Rectrix has cookies and dippin dots. Dolphin, I have found to generally be a disaster. They have been that way for a long time. Plus they are pricey for an older facility and less hot FBO girls. Hope this helps. William Quote
fantom Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 It was about a year ago, but Dolphin was most helpful, and like Allen Hugo says, they had a courtesy car, and please do add petrol to it before returning. Less hot desk girls.....forget it! Quote
fantom Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 I know, I know.....the killer of Majors. Guess what rank I was Quote
FloridaMan Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 I'm gonna have to take a guess... Quote
John Pursell Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 APP Jet Center didn't charge me a ramp fee and I didn't buy gas. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Quote
MooneyModSquad Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 Next time any of you are back here in Sarasota, stop in and say hello. We are at the FBO Dolphin Hanger C-6. Mooney Mod Squad Quote

Marauder Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 I like the disclaimer at the bottom of this flyer. I didn't catch that the first time. Holy cow Batman! I think it is unfortunate they kept the name. Better with a clean slate. Quote
FloridaMan Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 I heard a recent story -- and I don't know if it was before or after, of an M20C that was in for an oil change somewhere at KSRQ. Somehow the tech doing the change managed to start and run the engine for the run up and leak check without putting in any oil. The owner got new cylinders and I think new bearings out of the deal. Even so, I would be upset in regards to other parts that need lubrication. Quote
