For oil changes, I use a 4 foot piece of PVC pipe. On one end cut the tube in half so you have an open half pipe about 6" long.

The PVC pipe fits under the mags just like the aluminum trough, only stick a rag in the other end of the PVC pipe, no drips, no runs, no errors. Make sure you put a rag under the filter before you start so you catch any oil from the filter mount.

Yes, the fluid goes in the low point and the air goes out the high point. I've done cars from the top down, but never tried it on the Mooney. It would seem to me like you would have trouble getting the air out of the caliper with the bleed screw in the bottom, unless you unbolted it and held it upside down.

 

I dont know of any other method if your trying to bleed something alone.  Works great and you get repeatable results.  Works on wet clutches too.

This is exactly what you do. More than once on different race bikes I turned upside down the calipers to allow trapped air to escape. Tapping lightly with a rubber mallet dislodged the bubbles and my at the time full hand brakes miraculously were transformed into single finger brakes. If you have the time and aptitude, I say do it because no AP is going to.
