I have a KNS 80 NAV System in the Mooney I recently purchased. With it came the Pilots Guide. There must be a more comprehensive Pilots Manual. Can anyone help me locate and procure same? Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Best regards,

I believe it is available online. At least, I found several sources 4 years ago when I got my plane. I don't use the KNS, I revised the panel and my RNAV is by GPS now.

If I recall correctly (had one in my 77/201 25 years ago) the KNS 80 is extremely easy to operate but as usual operating manuals make it seem more complicated. Just tune to the desired VOR and set the radial and distance of the waypoint that you want to create and to navigate to. You can store 4 frequencies, scroll through them and press "USE" to activate the desired one. I believe there is a HOLD button which can cause confusion if not used properly. Largely obsolete since the coming of the GPS, the KNS80 allows you to be "legal" by filing IFR RNAV when really navigating the same route with a handheld GPS.

The KNS-80 Airplane Flight Manual Supplement (Revision D) can be downloaded from the Mooney.com site.  Click on Technical Publications, select your Model type (C, J, K, M, etc.), then select AFM Supplement under Categories.  About half way down the page is the King KNS-80 RNAV System document.

Section 4.3 discusses the battery replacement.

Thanks, all.  I have the pilots guide/user manual that shows an arrow toward the bottom left hand corner of the unit but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to open it up.
