Grant Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Lycoming has introduced a new STC engine: IO-390-A3A6 to replace the IO-360 engines in Mooney M20E/F/J models. The engine has the same footprint as the previous engine, but provides additional horsepower (~210HP) and improved climb and cruise performance. See Lycoming's press release here: http://www.lycoming.textron.com/news-and-events/press-releases/release-11-16-09a.html or contact me at Triad Aviation, Inc. for more details: Grant Hoernke email: Grant*@*HHTriad.com (remove *'s) PH: 1-800-334-6437 Maintenance Coordinator Triad Aviation, Inc., FAA CRS PP4R448M Burlington, NC 27215 (KBUY) Quote
Cruiser Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 anyone has performance data? I would love to have one of these/ Quote
MB_M20F Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I'd also be curious to know whether the PowerFlow exhaust would be compatible and remain as effective as it is with the IO-360. Quote
Grant Posted February 10, 2010 Author Report Posted February 10, 2010 After conferring with Mr. Anderson at Power Flow Exhaust, the STC for the Power Flow applies to the airframe and either the factory or any STC'd engine for the aircraft. So the Power Flow IS compatible without any additional requirements. It's a simple bolt-off / bolt-on procedure. There has already been one Echelon / Power Flow - STC'd aircraft modified with these upgrades. We would have to consult with the actual owner for the effectiveness, but it seems that you would still gain from the duo since the exhuast for the IO-390 is the same as the IO-360. Quote
GeorgePerry Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Grant, Can you post some "ball park" quotes for the New and Rebuild IO-390 upgrade...because at the end of the day everyone wants to know quanto-peso's Quote
Grant Posted February 11, 2010 Author Report Posted February 11, 2010 George - I will see if I can get the ballpark numbers and availability posted here before the end of the day. Lycoming has been very careful about releasing any figures and there are several critical items that may be required along with this engine (including a prop upgrade and governor modification) depending upon the aircraft's configuration. I also need to know if posting pricing here is OK with the forum moderators, or if I need to send it in a private message. Quote
MooneyMitch Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 There is a Mooney owner that has just become a Mooney Ambassador and he's had his 1994 J upgraded to the new engine. I am asking him to please post here with his information. This is a real life situation, so it should be very good. Stand by please. Quote
