I wonder what this looks like in the cockpit…gps coordinates for waypoints? Set up with ForeFlight and pushed to panel? How many waypoints?  Pretty cool!

I was kind of hoping the pilot was on MS and could give us a behind-the-scenes view :)

Seems like it would take a lot of work.

Here’s the original Reddit post fwiw

ETA: There’s actually a lot of follow up discussion since I first saw the post earlier today, and the OP gave some details on the process.

Interesting. Sounds like just used google earth to trace a picture and make a KML file that was uploaded to ForeFlight. Then just hand flew the track shown on ForeFlight.

Yeah, that method is why I just can't get to enthusiastic about these 'sky images'.  Sorry to be the 'wet blanket' but I just don't see how there is much skill involved; hell, just let the AP fly it if you go to the work to load the waypoints into your panel GPS.

You can just draw lines on ForeFlight map. They stay with the map till you erase them and zoom with the map. After you draw the picture you like, you just follow the lines.

I bet if you put in a feature request to turn the lines into waypoints for drawing pictures in the sky, they may do it.

Sometimes you just want to waste some avgas boring holes in the sky, might as well make a picture.

@0TreeLemur, was this you, Fred???

Either way, it's impressive!

  There are three Mooney's based at TCL.  I haven't yet met the owner of the plane that flew this mission, N7132V.

It's not about skill, it's about having a little fun.

Being a Buckeye, when I was breaking in my new engine I decided, why not do it with a little style?

Nothing wrong with that.  My comment was towards those that are somehow "impressed"; i.e. 'skill'
