Trogdor Posted August 6 Report Posted August 6 Just curious, for those who have done it, what is the running rate? I am seeing a wide swath of prices. Also for `NB` models, I see the notice and it can be extended to 1600 but just wondering if they ever make that without having to do jugs or simllar.

Just depends on the quality of the build, quality and quantity of maintenance, how often it's flown, who's been flying it, and probably a bunch of other things.
Trogdor Posted August 6 Author Report Posted August 6 Ok, ~50 hours a year, good quality maintenance. The thing is I see that these engines age out but do they really? And can anyone share how much it was to overhaul?
Jackk Posted August 7 Report Posted August 7 (edited) Depends on the operator too, I’d say more on the pilot than the maintenance actually Ham fisted, power to the aft stops descents, maybe not also some turbo/exhaust parts might not make it to OH Outside of a race plane, or living in Nepal, forced induction ain’t my jam for aircraft Edited August 7 by Jackk
KLRDMD Posted August 7 Report Posted August 7 A friend of mine is just now overhauling his TSIO-520, not an NB though. It is in his P210. He had close to 3,000 SMOH on it.
natdm Posted August 8 Report Posted August 8 You could just email some companies that do overhauls for that and see what the overhaul consists of, and the price/timeline. I used Watson Aero and they had the most parts replaced/overhauled. He had a quote ready for the engine, since they do TSIO360's all the time. I'm sure it'd be the same for the 520, he'd have a quote ready with what's done. Not all overhauls are equal, they'll range +-$5,000 or so. 1
LANCECASPER Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 @aviatoreb would have the latest information. His Rocket has been down for an engine overhaul.
Trogdor Posted August 11 Author Report Posted August 11 Thanks everyone. I may actually reach out to @aviatorebfor more.
aviatoreb Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 Hi Trogdor - I will reply to your pm in a second. But for the thread: So yes my TSIO520NB on my rocket has been in overhaul for quite some time. Finishing up the airplane is almost done and ground run is due on Thursday with test fly early next week. Yes my airplane made 1400 and in fact I sent it to overhaul at 2050 more out of a sense of enough is enough rather than I was seeing some specific problem. I had it done at RAM engines and airframe at Weberaircraft.
