Perri Dyer Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 Hi all I’m currently working on my interior, I have a 66E model. Most of the interior was out and lots missing, I have an upholstery shop doing the seats right now, I ordered carpet from Airtex. 2 questions, 1. Does carpet go between the seats where it’s Johnson bar goes? 2 what goes on the vertical wall in front of the rear seat? Anyone have pics?
N201MKTurbo Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 There is usually carpet between the seats. Just make sure it doesn’t move or interfere with the Johnson bar. The front of the back seat usually gets carpet glued to cardboard or sheet metal. 1

Could have spent more time fitting up the carpet between the seats. The previous carpet tucked under the plastic. Careful trimming the side panels to fit; those things are aggravating to install; we ended up with a gap in the back corner as you can see but once the seats are in you don't see it. The panel below the back seats was attached with velcro; hopefully it stays stuck. Your AIRTEX side panels should come mounted to a backing board. 3

Thanks for the pics and reply, my kit didn’t come with the center section or the rear vertical panel. I have ordered the side panels, waiting on them to be shipped. what did you use to cut out the fuel selector?

A needle with a T on the dull end (for pushing hard) to locate existing holes. All comes in handy. Maybe the rear panel comes with the side panels? Don’t remember for sure. Seems like I remember a plastic panel at vantage plane plastics that may be for your center floor. 1
Jsno Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 I installed coin mat in my M20F. I like it much better than carpet. 1

Years ago I received the carpet from Airtex for the Johnson bar area but my plane had a plastic in that area. you can order one here: https://vantageassoc.com/mooney-m20-k740054-503-407.html As for the wall under the seat: I seem to remember that piece of carpet came with the side kit from Airtex. 1
M20F Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 This Sears ad from 1968 will help with the selection. Remember you are a Ranger, buck the trends. 1

Flown in a lot of working planes with that, not exactly sexy and I just mentally smell dirt and old coffee spills when I see it lol talk to the folks at Wipaire floats, they had access to a few different carpet substitutes they use in floatplanes that work great for dirt and water but and look much better 2

bixmooney Posted August 3 Report Posted August 3 I just got mine in, ordered from SCS, and super happy that I decided to do this. Wool, color Walnut. 1

Paul Thomas Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 I ordered the sample from SCS; I wish they had more colors. The quality of the wool vs. other fabric is obvious.
bixmooney Posted August 5 Report Posted August 5 The wool was a little more expensive but I felt it was worth it. I did not do the install myself, I had the AP do it at annual and reasonable. The side panels I don’t think required a backing board. The carpet seemed to be rigid enough.
